Macon, Ga. – As the excitement builds for kickoff to the 2022 football season, Mercer Athletics has announced a series of community partners for each home game. First up for the season is "Perry Night" on Aug. 27. The Bears kick off the season against Morehead State at 7 p.m. in a contest that will be the only college football game in Georgia on that opening day.
"We are excited to partner with Mercer University and their outstanding Athletics Department for Perry Day," said Perry Mayor Randall Walker (shown above with Head Coach
Drew Cronic). "We encourage our residents to cheer on the Mercer Bears and represent the great city of Perry."
Members from the Perry community will be recognized throughout the game.
The Perry community can purchase discounted tickets by using the code "Perry" at this
link.
"The Perry Chamber is so excited to host Perry Day at Mercer University. Perry Day brings an opportunity to showcase and expand knowledge of our Perry businesses and grow within the Middle Georgia and Macon community," said Maggie Schuyler, President/CEO of the Perry Chamber of Commerce.
The Bears return several starters and quality depth from a team that battled ETSU in the last game of the 2021 regular season to determine the Southern Conference championship. Already, Mercer has been recognized in three pre-season polls for the upcoming season
: College Football Network tabbed Mercer at No. 16,
Athlon Sports has the Bears at No. 17 and
Bluebloods placed MU at No. 18.
"This is an opportunity for us to show we're more than just Macon and expand our footprint," said
Daniel Tate, Mercer associate athletic director for external operations. "Since the University returned to the gridiron in 2013, it has been exciting to watch our Middle Georgia community adopt the Bears as their home team."
Other fan activities surrounding the Aug. 27 opening game will be announced in the coming days.
