The University of Maryland has announced the induction of former Seattle Storm player and the Storm’s current Director of Community Engagement Crystal Langhorne into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on November 19 at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
“When I found out this was happening, it meant so much,” Langhorne said. “I care about Maryland so much, and the fact that they wanted to honor me in this way, being inducted into the Hall of Fame, it just means a lot. I’m really excited for it.”
Langhorne played for the Terps from 2004-08, leading the program to its first NCAA Championship in 2006. She was a two-time All-American (2007, ‘08) and earned numerous ACC honors including First Team All-ACC (2006, ‘07, ’08), Rookie of the Year (2005), and Player of the Year (2008). Langhorne completed her collegiate career as one of the only three players in school history—male or female—to record 2,000+ points and 1,000+ rebounds.
Langhorne was drafted sixth overall by the Washington Mystics in 2008 and spent six seasons in D.C. She was named to the all-star squad twice (2011, ‘13), recording a career-best 18.7 points in 2011. Langhorne was traded to Seattle prior to the start of the 2014 season, playing the final seven seasons in the league with the Storm and earning a pair of WNBA titles (2018, ‘20).
After retiring following the 2020 season, Langhorne moved to the Storm front office where she was the inaugural Director of Community Engagement. In that role, Langhorne leads Force4Change, the franchise’s social justice platform, where she heads collaborations with Storm ownership, leadership, and community partners to promote the Storm’s engagement. So far, her efforts resulted in over $600,000 donated and raised to support organizations and initiatives focused on this social justice work in the community and in the country.
