Omie, Brazil's #ERP software company, at the verge of becoming an #unicorn, grabs BRL $580M led by SoftBank Group International joined by Riverwood Capital in a multi-country round aiming at expanding its unique ERP software to integrate #fintech functionalities and give its platform an edge over the competition including Germany's SAP and and Brazil's TOTVS, formerly Microsiga Software. The round was followed by capital funds Dynamo, Velt, Bogari Capital, HIX Capital, and Brasil Capital. Already a #leader in the small and middle space, Omie aims now at integrating #fintech capabilities to its platform taking advantage of Brazil's new #openbanking regulations which allow #fintechs and other services to plugin into the countries banking system. Recently, Omie signed a partnership with Banco Itaú, Brazil's largest bank, to offer ERP and financial services to over 1,5 million companies. In an interview to Reuters, Marcelo Lombardo, founder and CEO of Omie, said that during the pandemic the company began aiming at clients with revenues up to BRL $200M, tipping a market dominated by giants such as Germany SAP, a bold move as Omie is able to offer better services for a fraction of the price. Omie was represented by a cross border legal team in this transaction. Pinheiro Neto Advogados' partner Ricardo Binnie acted as counsel related to Brazilian financial and banking laws. Another day, another forum! Today I am spending the day at LATAM Tech Forum, hosted by Riverwood Capital, with my Foley & Lardner LLP colleagues Steven Vazquez, Louis Lehot, and Federico Goudie. Yesterday we began with inspiring opening remarks from Francisco Alvarez-Demalde about the history and significance of LTF, followed by an insightful talk on geopolitics given by Admiral James Stavridis, 16th Supreme Allied Commander, NATO. This morning, we began with conversations from the former president of PayPal, Dan Schulman, as well as Brazil’s former president, Michel Temer. #AI has been a prominent topic once again throughout conversations. We had an introduction to AI executive session, as well as a discussion on cybersecurity and emerging trends in the sector. Later today, we’ll have more executive sessions on AI adoption and uses, and what this means for business. Good afternoon from Sunny Silicon Valley! Excited to announce that I've spent the last two days attending Brazil at Silicon Valley with my Foley & Lardner LLP colleague Talita Guedes Duarte. This invite-only event by Stanford focuses largely on VC growth, and this year #AI has been a central theme. The first day of this event kicked off with a happy hour hosted by STARK BANK, where I got the chance to connect with many great friends and colleagues. On day 2, we dove right in with Scott Brady’s insightful session on the impact of #generativeai, and the conversation only continued to flow from there. Yesterday was filled with discussions about how AI will transform business in Brazil, as well as ethical frontiers this tech must overcome. Additionally, there were several showcases of AI’s potential, and many insights shared on how companies will continue to embrace AI as we move through 2024. A particularly interesting showcase was done by Kian Katanforoosh, where he demonstrated what makes an AI transformation successful. A big thank you to all of the organizers and speakers for putting together such an informative and engaging conference!
