Despite the major changes happening at DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran, a new report claims The Batman 2 is still safe. The Dark Knight made his cinematic return earlier this year when Robert Pattinson donned the cowl as the latest incarnation of Bruce Wayne in The Batman. Helmed by Matt Reeves, the latest Batman reboot focused on a younger take on Bruce during his second year as Gotham City's iconic vigilante.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios is currently evaluating their plans for the DCU, but it won't affect what is going on with The Batman 2. After being greenlit earlier this year, the trade claims that Reeves' sequel is safe and not getting touched by Gunn and Safran, who are leading the charge for DC Studios. This is also not going to affect Reeves' spinoff shows set in The Batman universe, including the upcoming HBO Max drama, The Penguin. Thus far, no one from Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have commented on the story.

What We Know About The Batman 2

While The Batman 2 was greenlit earlier this year, story details have been kept under wraps as Reeves is still penning the screenplay for the next installment. With no set release date, it remains to be seen when The Batman 2 will head out into theaters. However, producer Dylan Clark has stated that "it will be less than five years" before the next film comes out. So far, Pattinson is the only confirmed cast member for The Batman 2, with Reeves returning as its director and writer.

One of the villains who could be appearing in The Batman 2 is the Court of Owls, which is something Pattinson and several cast members have all expressed interest in. The reboot also introduced a new take on The Joker, with Eternals star Barry Keoghan portraying the latest incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime. However, whether or not Joker will be The Batman 2's main villain has yet to be determined, as Reeves has previously stated that he is not sure yet where the DC villain will appear next in this universe.

Why The Batman Universe Isn't Being Affected

While there are a lot of reports going around about the future of the DCU and what DC Studios is possibly thinking of doing, many may wonder why The Batman franchise remains untouched. Due to Pattinson's Batman taking place in a separate universe, if they reboot the DCU, then it doesn't affect whatever he and Reeves are doing with the Dark Knight. Pulling the plug on Man of Steel 2, any further Aquaman sequels and Wonder Woman 3, however, is relevant for the DCU as they are all part of the same interconnected universe. Time will tell what is in store for The Batman 2, but for now, fans can look forward to the franchise still going forward.
