James Bentley opens up on Leeds Rhinos move and gives injury latest

James Bentley was announced as wearing the number 11 for Leeds Rhinos in the 2022 Super League season after four seasons at St Helens.

The Leeds-born second-rower cannot wait to get started for his new club after appearing in 46 games for Saints as well as being key in their last three Grand Final victories.

“It feels good, it’s the day I have dreamt of since I was a kid to wear this shirt,” Bentley told Rhinos TV.

“I can’t wait to pull it on the front of the fans – there’s been some big players that have worn the shirt in the past and I can’t wait to do them proud.

“It’s special for my family especially for my dad he’s made up and not stopped talking about it, but I’m buzzing for it.”

Bentley suffered with a back injury whilst at previous club St Helens, but he and the Rhinos have had good news on that front as he prepares for pre-season.

“We got good news today with my injury, hopefully I can rip into training now and get that sorted.

“I just want to get as fit as I can get so I’m ready to go next year.

“We need to make sure everything is right with it and make sure there’s no hiccups.”
