AG Bonta Settles With Sephora Over Online Privacy Allegations

California AG Rob Bonta reached a settlement with beauty retailer Sephora to resolve allegations that it violated the California Consumer Privacy Act and the state’s Unfair Competition Law by providing third-party analytics and technology partners with access to users’ personal information without informing consumers.

AG Coalition Calls for Stronger Protections for Student Loan Borrowers 

In a letter to Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and Department of Education (ED) Analyst Brian Schelling, a coalition of AGs from twenty states and the District of Columbia submitted comments on ED’s proposed rulemaking regarding improvements to the 90/10 rule, which limits the percentage of revenue for-profit educational institutions can receive from federal student aid to 90%.

FTC and Six State AGs Sue Room and Roomate-Finder Site Roomster for Misleading Reviews, Listings 

The FTC and the AGs of six states have sued the online room and roommate finder platform Roomster, as well as corporate officers John Shriber and Roman Zaks, and also named Jonathan Martinez as a co-defendant, over allegations that Roomster violated §5(A) of the FTC Act and state statutes by hosting thousands of false reviews relating to properties listed on its site.

New York AG James Announces $2 Million Fine Against Oil Company for Failure to Plug Wells

New York AG Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hotchul announced the assessment of a $2 million penalty against James R. Lee and his affiliate companies for violating the state’s Environmental Conservation Law through their failure to properly maintain approximately 406 oil and gas wells.
