A person was found dead following reports of a shooting early Thursday morning in Southwest Albuquerque. Rebecca Atkins of the Albuquerque Police Department said police responded just before 4 a.m. to the incident in the 600 block of Bataan SW, near Bridge and Coors. She said officers found a person dead in the area and homicide detectives were called to investigate. Atkins gave no other details on the incident. Thursday's incident happened just down the street from Bataan and Coors, where a man was critically injured in a shooting Sunday. Atkins said that man is still in critical condition and there is no indication the two incidents are connected. A man at the scene after Thursday's shooting – who wanted to be identified only as Chris – said the person was killed when a spray of bullets came through a window. He said he was at a house party with others when a car pulled up and gunfire rang out. "Sometimes bad (stuff) happens. Can't control the weather," Chris said, adding that he was close enough to the person killed and the gunfire that he was surprised he didn't get hit. Meanwhile, APD has identified two recent homicide victims and a third who died in the hospital after a shooting outside a motel on East Central in June. Atkins identified those killed as Alexander Renner, 37, Jordan Bahe, 32, and Christian Nieto, 35. No arrests have been made in any of the three cases. The most recent was Sept. 22, when police went to serve a search warrant at a home in Northeast Albuquerque. Officers found Renner dead inside the home near Tramway and Montgomery. Two days earlier, officers responded to 94th and Central for reports of a body on the side of the road. Police found Bahe, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A cause of death has not been given for either case. This summer, on June 25, the Gun Violence Reduction Unit responded to a shooting at the Motel 6 near Central and Tramway. Officers found Nieto in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the stomach and he was hospitalized in critical condition. Atkins said police learned on Aug. 16 that Nieto died "as a result of his wounds." She said homicide detectives are assisting the unit detective with the investigation.
