Castleford Tigers winger Greg Eden reacts to that try against Hull FC’s Jake Connor

Out for Castleford Tigers’ first three games and in for the fourth, Greg Eden lined up on the familiar left wing against Hull FC.

With centre Jordan Turner for company, that fruitful 2021 partnership that proved so devastating last season, was revived.

Eden slowly eased his way back into the game, having not played Super League since last season, and dotted down once in the first-half as the Tigers led 18-12 at the break.

But, despite a few errors with the ball, Eden registered another two tries – with the latter the pick of the bunch – to notch another hat-trick in Castleford colours.

After the game, the Tigers club revealed that the winger has scored 92 tries in 88 games for the West Yorkshire club which is an incredible effort and proof that Eden is a natural try-scoring freak – and one of those included turning Hull FC’s Jake Connor inside out before powering to the corner for a wonderful hat-trick score.

“He were into me all game to be fair so it was nice to get that one,” Eden told Tigers TV.

“It was quick hands to me and I was going to give it back inside.

“I think I sold the dummy to Jake and then it was foot down to the corner, but my legs were like jelly at that point because it was a it of a heavy field!

The Tigers were in the lead from the first eight seconds of Sunday’s game after Ligi Sao dropped the ball from the kick-off and Daniel Smith scooping up to dot down.

Things didn’t really improve throughout for the Black and Whites, whilst Radford’s men looked enthusiastic and determined to grind out their first victory of the season.

And, for head coach Radford – against his former club for the first time – was overjoyed against adversity.

“I’m really pleased, the first three weeks you use the old cliches that we’re building and trying to get better but winning is ultimately what you play for,” Radford told BBC Radio Leeds after the game.

“We took some uppercuts from the disciplinary from Bureta (Faraimo) and Liam (Watts) and then we had Niall (Evalds) and (Nathan) Massey with their hamstrings, but there was a bounce in what they did and the performance epitomised this.”
