Women’s 6K race slated for 10:20 a.m. on Saturday on ESPNU

VESTAL, N.Y. – For the second straight cross country season, current graduate student Emily Mackay will take part in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The women's 6,000-meter race will be held Saturday at 10:20 a.m. at Florida State University and air live on ESPNU. The men's 10,000-meter race will follow at 11:10 a.m.

The top 40 finishers in each race will earn All-America honors from the United States Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Mackay placed 14th at the 2020-21 meet, which was held this past March at Oklahoma State University.

Mackay advanced to the current NCAA Championship meet by virtue of her third-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Region Meet last Friday. Two weeks earlier, she won her second consecutive America East individual title.

This marks the third NCAA Championship meet that Mackay will take part in. She also advanced to the outdoor track & field championships last June and earned first-team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000.

On Saturday, Mackay will tie Keishorea Armstrong for the most appearances by a Binghamton female student-athlete at a NCAA Division I Championship event. Armstrong advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2015 and 2018 as well as the indoor meet in 2018.

Mackay will also tie Erik van Ingen for the most appearances by a Binghamton cross country runner at the NCAA Division I Meet. Van Ingen took part in the men's 10,000-meter race in 2009 and 2010, placing a career-best 42nd overall in his second and final meet. Mackay and van Ingen are the only two Binghamton cross country runner to compete in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
