ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) – Police in St. Clair Shores believe a carjacking early Friday morning may be related to a string of other crimes in the city.

Authorities say a man was driving along Maxine Street around 4:30 a.m. Friday when he was hit head-on by a Chevy Impala near Helen Street.

Three younger Black males, believed to be between the ages of 15-18, got out of the car and approached him, according to police. Two of the suspects were armed with handguns and the victim complied after being ordered out of his car.

Police officials say his car was recovered a short distance away from the scene of the crime after it had been crashed.

Later that same day officials located the Impala and a pursuit ensued, but due to high speeds and erratic driving by the suspect, police lost sight of the car.

Authorities believe two other carjacking attempts in the same time frame are related. One happened on Little Mack at 10 Mile, while the other happened on Harmon Street. Victims in each of those cases were able to drive away safely, officials said.

Later Friday afternoon, SCSPD received a report of a robbery near 8 Mile and Harper. The suspect and vehicle matched the description of the other reported crimes.

Authorities say investigations continue, and are asking anyone who knows something to call the SCSPD Detective Bureau at 586-445-5305.
