Volleyball’s Natalie Tyson Named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball redshirt senior leads the SoCon and ranks 13th in NCAA Division I this season with 340 total kills.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga Mocs volleyball redshirt senior outside hitter Natalie Tyson has been named this week's Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her performance this past weekend, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Natalie Tyson earns the SoCon OPOTW award for this first time after transferring in from East Carolina ahead of the 2022 season. The selection marks UTC's third weekly award this season with Paige Gallentine earning two DPOTW laurels. Tyson is the first OPOTW for the Mocs since Gylian Finch in the final week of the 2019 season.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., native, led the team with 36 kills at a blistering 4.50 per set average while hitting an efficient .248% this past weekend in a pair of matches at Wofford and Furman. The Mocs (12-13) went 1-1 on the weekend to move its SoCon record to 6-4 as the squad sits in fourth place.

During a wild 3-2 win at Wofford on Friday, Tyson recorded eight of her 23 kills in the deciding fifth while attacking a .700% clip during the set. She finished with a .380% attacking percentage while completing the double-double with 11 digs, in addition to adding four aces, two assists and a block.

She finished with 13 kills, nine digs and two blocks to amass 14.5 points scored during Saturday's 3-0 setback at Furman. For the season, Tyson leads the SoCon in total kills (340) and ranks fourth in kills per set (3.47). The 340 total kills ranks 13th in NCAA Division I this season while her 1,134 career kill total is 80th among all active players in NCAA DI.
