It was a friendly visit until a priceless artifact was stolen. Now Ben and Tenzin are up to their necks in secrets that can kill.

It’s not just any holiday season in the immortal world. Elder Zhang’s oldest servant is reaching the century mark and Ben and Tenzin are ready to celebrate, but no sooner do they land on Penglai Island than a mystery falls in their path. A valuable seal has gone missing, and the artifact was a gift from an ancient vampire who just happens to be heading to Penglai for a long-overdue formal visit.

The Elders of Penglai may have asked Ben and Tenzin’s assistance to find the lost treasure, but that doesn’t mean that eight ancient vampires, their immortal children, and all the humans who serve them will suddenly become open books. Penglai Island is secret for a reason, and the heart of that reason may just reveal the motive behind the theft.

Ok, so it’s Benzin and we are all excited. We don’t care if it’s a full novel or a tiny little snippet we want IN! I was so excited to hear about an upcoming Ben and Tenzin novella but I had NO idea it would be this amazing. I mean, we all know Ms. Hunter’s writing is unparalleled but on top of masterfully writing slow burns and sword fights, I have to say that no one writes novellas like she does. I know it’s supposed to be a shorter book but you end up with an incredible amount of story in those pages. This is a full on Ben and Tenzin story folks, there is the mystery of missing things and the whodunnit but there is just so much Benzin in these pages. Never mind getting to experience the stunning details of Pengali island and the culture there. I love getting to see the natural progress of their relationship blending so well with what you could expect with both of their complex character growths. They are just such a beautiful couple. Their story and interactions leave my heart breathless and joyful with a tinge of pain….just how Tenzin likes it lol

DO NOT SKIP THIS BOOK! It sets up for so much more of them in the future. I had no idea of the potential these two had and I AM HERE FOR IT!

Pearl Sky is an extraordinary read which is a great addition to this outstanding series. Fangirls fan what can I say?

Ben & Tiny are back!

Elder Zhang’s has invited to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of his servants. It’s mandatory. But while there they also need to solve a theft. One of great importance that could have great impact on the island and additional ties to the outside world.

Penglai Island is a world unto itself. There is nothing that can compare but with all the beauty there is unrest. Ben sees more than the rest as why change something that is broke?

Pearl Sky is exactly what I needed. Although Benzin are familiar characters they never bore or become stagnant. Their relationship evolves each time we get to spend time with them and their shenanigans.

Keep em coming Ms. Hunter!

I absolutely LOVE Ben and Tenzin and I am SO happy they are back in the spotlight in Pearl Sky.

Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental world is one of the best in Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. She writes such complex and lovable characters and couples that you can’t help put be enthralled.

Pearl Sky is a lovely addition to the Elemental Legacy series. I could read Ben and Tenzin forever! I devoured this book and just kept wanting more and more. The intrigue is awesome, though there is less action, which I confess I did not miss. The complexity of relationships and politics in Penglay Island were plenty enough :)

I absolutely recommend Pear Sky, though it would have a bigger impact if read after the other elemental legacy books.

I have been in love with Benjamin Vecchio since he was introduced into my life in This Same Earth, and have more than loved watching him grow up. While I knew in my heart that he and Tenzin were fated for each other, I always wondered how his gentler and more peaceful heart would work in tandem with Tenzin's wild and violent personality... and we get to see just how beautifully this turns out in Pearl Sky.

Back on Penglai Island, with the elusive Immortal Elders, we get to experience life outside of the palace and see how the mortals live. This extra layer of life on the island(s) gives a deeper glimpse into the power structure and maybe some cracks in their foundation.

Elizabeth Hunter weaves worlds that are so rich and vibrant, adding in characters that are deep and intriguing, that her books are impossible to put down. Pearl Sky quadruples down on an already fantastic storyline with 2 of my favorite characters ever, and letting us see how "Benzin" is evolving in their relationship... with another brilliant mystery thrown in.

Pearl Sky will NOT disappoint, only leave you wanting more!!!

Ben flexing his muscles

I frigging love Ben and Tenzin! They have gained quite the reputation for being able to find and retrieve priceless treasures and being discrete about it. So, when the famed Pearl Seal on Penglai island disappears shortly before an important diplomatic visit, the Elders ask Ben and Tenzin for their help, a request they cannot refuse. But what starts as the search for a missing artifact, soon turns out to become a tightrope dance in vampire politics and we see Ben flexing his vampire muscles for the first time…

Ben and Tenzin now have been mates for some time, and partners for much longer. They love each other and they can’t live without the other, but despite that, their relationship does not feel settled, they are often irritated with one another, and they don’t view the world with the same eyes. But their different perspectives also make them such a formidable investigative team, as they bring different strengths to the job.

Due to Tenzin’s special status within the vampire world and the circumstances of Ben’s turning, they both sort of stand outside the usual vampire hierarchy, with having no formal allegiance except to their sire and the voluntary bonds of friendship they have with a few other vampires. But this in turn highlights the feudal structure of the rest of vampire society, and though many vampires argue that these structures are necessary to keep their kind from annihilating each other, the story behind the theft of the Pearl Seal highlights the injustice of a system, where many (vampires and humans alike) are given no choice about how to live their lives. I am not quite sure whether the underlying story can be read as a critique of society in the broader sense, but at least Ben’s viewpoint seems to imply that, because in his eyes, even when the ruling power (the vampire Elders) is mostly benevolent, the fact that it is quasi absolute and very hierarchical is still wrong…

First, I have to say I am a HUGE fan of all the Elemental World books, but especially the Ben and Tenzin Elemental Legacy ones. I have loved their story since I first met them in the Elemental Mysteries series, and am SO enjoying their journey in the Legacy series. So I'm going to REALLY try not to be totally biased when I write this review for the latest book in the series, Pearl Sky (spoiler alert: I loved it), and I hope I can do it justice. If you haven't read the earlier books, I would highly suggest going back and starting with the 4 novellas about Ben and Tenzin and go from there. You won't be disappointed as their journey is a fascinating one.

As with a lot of the Elemental Legacy books, the main theme is that there is some kind of priceless treasure that Ben and Tenzin need/want to find - only this time, the "treasure" hunt comes to Ben and Tenzin when they are visiting Penglai to celebrate one of Elder Zhang's oldest human's birthday. Right before they arrive, the Pearl Seal has been taken from the gate and the Elders of Penglai task Tenzin and Ben to find the thief. Ben has great instincts about what might have happened, but decides to defer initially to Tenzin and her knowledge of the workings of Penglai and the help of one of the Elder's associates who was born there. As they are solving the mystery, we are treated to insider knowledge into the workings of an ancient place like Penglai - the culture, the logistics of how they get their food, the natives' lives, etc. Perhaps not everything is as it seems on the outside, but it sounds like a beautiful place.

Throughout the book we are also given more insight into how Ben and Tenzin are doing now that they are mated and together (more so than the brief glimpse we saw in Paladin's Kiss). It's so much fun to see their progression in their relationship and to see how both are still learning to adjust to the mating and yet still figure out how to be themselves at the same time. I think one of the things I love most about these characters is their banter back and forth - Ben does love to tease Tenzin - and this book definitely hits on those notes. One of my favorite scenes not related to the mystery was Ben displaying some jealousy and dueling with Cheng and showing off what a powerful vampire he's become. I think Tenzin secretly loved Ben's display of jealousy, even if she didn't come right out and say it. I also loved learning a bit more into Tenzin's past, and am hoping that the few breadcrumbs that were dropped lead to another story!

I REALLY hope we can keep seeing more of Ben and Tenzin's adventures together in the future, and more of all the characters in the Elemental World. These characters have completely captured my heart, and I love to see their growth throughout the books. This was just another amazing chapter in the lives of Ben and Tenzin.

Overall: 9 out 10, only because I wish I could have seen more of them at the last scene of the book (and maybe a few other character cameos!).

Thank you SO much to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love all of the Elemental books but Ben and Tenzin’s are some of my favorites! This book was especially interesting to me because it was set on Penglai Island.
I found learning about the elders and about Penglai so interesting. We’ve visited there before but this was so much more in-depth and it was fascinating.
Ben and Tenzin go there for a party and end up putting their expertise to work to help solve a mystery involving a stolen artifact. It is excellently written and captures your interest to where you do not want to put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

This happens to be my 300th book in 2022. 📚🤓🥳

I’m glad that I took a detour from my relentless search for good Christmas themed stories to dip back into Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental world. This is the stuff that made me fall in love with her books a few years ago. And Ben and Tenzin are my favorite of all the vampires in the series.

This story is more than one of Ben and Tenzin’s adventurous artifact hunting stories that we’ve seen in the last few books. This story goes deeper. It has thematic underpinnings of philosophical elements such as servitude, free will and what true happiness looks like.

It also touches on Tenzin’s really traumatic beginnings (making me want to read her novella story, The Bronze Blade again). Tenzin is one of the most complex characters I’ve read in any book ever. Hunter does an amazing job presenting her without judgement and in a matter of fact way…an immortal being who has been shaped and tempered by thousands of years of living and seeing many generations of humans come and go, which has resulted in a very pragmatic and unemotional view of humans and human nature. It’s hard to not both get frustrated with her at times but also really feel for her. And her relationship with her mate Ben, a caring, newly transformed immortal who is guided mostly by his strong moral convictions, is her perfect counterpart. We see in this book that after I’m guessing about 20 or so books Tenzin has appeared in, that maybe there is a softening that has been very slowly evolving for her since Ben came into her life.

Oh, and bonus for me, we got treated to one of the great Elemental friends Christmas scenes at the end of the book. Although it would’ve been more complete if Carwyn and Brigid had been there too. So maybe I can count this as a win in my a Christmas themed books hunt as well. 😁🎄

Looking forward to the next Ben and Tenzin story.

This book had lots of moments that touched my heart and some that left me with a smug smile on my face. I adore these characters so much and it’s intensely satisfying to see Ben and Tenzin grow into such an incredible force while still maintaining the amusing dynamics of their relationship that made us all fall in love with them. We get to connect with some less prominent fan favourites but also are introduced to some new (and hopefully future) characters. The mystery in the story unraveled at a steady pace and allows us to learn so much more about Penglai and the people on the surrounding islands who keep it all working in balance. I was given an early copy and admittedly was very excited to read more in the Elemental Legacy universe. Unsurprisingly, I devoured this book. Pearl Sky exceeded my expectations and gave some epic scenes which will no doubt set the stage for even more incredible storytelling. I highly recommend jumping into this universe if you haven’t already (starting way back in A Hidden Fire) because seeing these characters grow has been so gratifying. Elizabeth Hunter continues to be an easy one-click author.

It's Benzin time!

These two can't just attend a birthday party for a trusted human in their father's court. Where would the fun in that be? A precious artifact has been stolen on Penglai Island and Ben and Tenzin have been tasked with finding it.
Political intrigue, whodunits, sword play? This is just what we all want in an Elemental Legacy book. Elizabeth Hunter does such a masterful job of creating unique characters, deeply rich worlds, and plot twists that keep you intrigued from the moment you begin.
But this book? You get so much more of Benzin. It's so beautiful. And funny. And just exactly what fans of these two want!
Do not miss out on this book. You will love it!

Tenzin is correct. She is delightful. But Ben and Tenzin together is… decadent, but in a good way, (luxurious, indulgent, greedy and totally worth it!).

“BenZin,” one of our favorite vampire mated pairs is back in Elizabeth Hunter’s “Pearl Sky,” the 8th book in the Elemental Legacies series. The duo returns to the island home of the Eight Immortal Elders and are tasked with solving the theft of an invaluable artifact. Murder and mayhem ensue, but is it all related? Can millennia-old culture and traditions endure in isolation, or is it time for change? These are just some of the questions BenZin struggle to answer as they attempt to solve the mysteries surrounding the theft. But, there is great power in fated love and unexpected beauty in darkness.

Pearl Sky” is the perfect indulgence for the winter holiday season. Grab some cookies and a cup of coco, (maybe add some Bailey’s), head to your favorite reading spot and hang up the “Do Not Disturb” sign. You won’t regret it.

I had an opportunity to read an advanced copy of “Pearl Sky” in exchange for an honest review.

This was, hands down, the best Ben and Tenzin story of the series in my opinion! Hunter’s ability to paint all of the tradition and pageantry of Penglai and the lives of its people made me feel like Googling the imaginary islands to learn more. The mystery our heroes set to solve was perfectly matched to the setting and characters. The connection of Ben and Tenzin was somehow made even deeper and more interesting. I could go on and on… Read it!

I was very fortunate to have received an ARC of Elizabeth Hunter’s, “Pearl Sky.”
From Start to finish, this novel has held me captivated! It was everything I absolutely adore about the Elemental World. The adventure, suspense, wit, thrill, and charm that Benjamin Vecchio and Tenzin bring forth is absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t put it down.

Ben and Tenzin are mates, both vampires turned, and, you know the book you have opened is going to make you breathless with some tenuous scenes when, that they are “lost in the throes of sexual passion tended to create interior windstorms,” in the first ten pages!! This, a direct quote from the book, one which only helps me to predict with its use, what can be expected, in love scenes throughout, for the pair. And, just as predicted (and hoped), the book only heats up as the pages continue to turn. Romance, however, only, “a part of” the page turner that makes the read all the more engrossing.

The pair are headed to Tenzin’s fathers fortress island temple called Penglai, a place shrouded with tortured memories of their shattered, human past together, full of misunderstandings and mistakes. There Zhnag is throwing a party for a human servant, the oldest living, Erdun. When they arrive at the island they find that a carved, gold dragon, set in jade, that had been placed in the eastern entrance gate has been stolen. The Pearl Seal, as it is called, was a gift, making the ramifications of its disappearance all the more important and the need for it back, all the more dire.

The Eight Immortals of Panglai Island rule the vampire society in much of the Asian world and the island, their home. Considered a holy place, there is no crime and violence is unheard of. There’s is a place of philosophy, reason and diplomacy. That the Pearl Seal has been stolen from the island goes against the very nature of all they believe and the crime must be solved as soon as possible. A request from Elder Han Xiang asks that the pair bring Jae, a chief in his human guard, along as they solve this mysterious disappearance.

The rulers of the island themselves gave up selfish pursuits for peace and communication within their society. At this time the elders only think the theft will have only political consequences, that no one or nothing else is in danger. Will they be right about this? Or, is there a deeper meaning to the crime? Was the Pearl Seal stolen for a greater reason, one that can have insurmountable consequences for their society? And, as Ben and Tenzin are asked by the Eight to find the Pearl Seal, what will the implications be for them, in their quest and in solving this mystery?

Pearl Sky by Elizabeth Hunter is one of the best paranormal books I have read this year! Part of the Elemental Legacy Series, one that was unknown to me as a reader, when I got my copy I sat down, opened it and couldn’t put it down, a fantasy world I so long to join, if only transported page by page. Now a fan, the series in its eighth addition, I am excited to rewind, start my journey into the vampire series, and catch up. Regardless, it was a fabulous stand alone book , me having no previous knowledge of Hunter’s writing.

And, most enjoyable is the adventurous pair I got to meet within the pages, two of the best paranormal sleuths in literature right now, their relationship, paranormal powers and human past, making the depth of character (for both) all the more enjoyable. However, I can’t forget the council on the island, The Eight Immortals and the society that they developed which helped to bring the story to life, for me, all the more. Not only are the main characters of this book deeply interesting, characters you can get lost in, but the supporting cast in the book have unique and distinct characteristics, emotions, and stories of their own that only help aid the way in which I am able to see the story in my own mind as I bring the words to life in a way only I can know. Only the best of authors can do it in a way that you really believe that you have experienced “an event” rather than just read a book. Therefore, this book was more like a journey, a place and time where I now felt like I was able to visit and take part in.

As I started my paranormal reading later in life and do not have as many reads here as other genres. After Pearl Sky, Elizabeth Hunter will be a new author to the MUST READ/ ALL NEW RELEASE shelf, when it comes to further books she releases. I have to recommend this book for all general readers like myself, who read a little bit of everything, as this is writing at its best as well as for all fans of paranormal, mystery, fantasy, fiction genres. I have never been more excited as I found a writer I have missed, just don’t ask me how as I have no idea myself?

Thanks
Happy Reading!

Pearl Sky continues The Elemental Legacy series, and it definitely starts with a bang!
Ben and Tenzin arrive on Penglai Island to attend a birthday party. Upon that arrival Zhang enlists them to find a pearl that has been stolen from one of the main gates into the interior. The pearl had been a gift from one of the party attendees, so time is of the essence.
Ben, being a “new” vampire, can still think with his human simplistic approach. He is certain that the theft has been committed by an insider, be it vampire or human. Tenzin is adamant that would never occur. It would upset the balance of the island that hasn’t experienced any crime in eons.
At first Pearl Sky reads like a simple little story, but as Ms. Hunter always does so brilliantly, you have to dig through layer after layer of nuance: foretelling of the future, present day problems, politics, relationships and parental love.
You get to experience jealousy by two peacocks marking their territory by a sword fight, pomp and circumstance and the intricacies of the island. You also will see the progression of Ben and Tenzin’s relationship. They are opposite ends of the spectrum but they, too, balance.
Many thought-provoking items are brought to light with their search for the stolen pearl. It seems as if paradise isn’t always perfect.
I had written a review a few books back stating that I thought Ben would be something unique and MORE than anyone thought. In Pearl Sky the box that is Ben’s power squeaks open a crack with the sword fight. The box groans open wider at the party. It is epic. Raw, powerful and unknown.
The story ends at Gio and B’s home for the holidays. Ben’s performance at Penglai Island has already reached Gio’s ears and in a quiet moment he questions Ben about it. Ben explains the family that he protected with his aegis and then tries to explain “the darkness in between.” This gives Gio pause as he mentions that Ben could very well be a target. I think that Gio is aware of the possibility that is Ben.
I think Pearl Sky is my favorite book in this series and I am so excited to continue this journey with Ms. Hunter. It will be amazing to see the growth of young Benjamin and his Tenzin.
**As always, I am so thankful to be able to read Ms. Hunters books a little early so I can read them again with everyone else.

4.5 hearts

I am thrilled to have another adventure of Ben & Tenzin.  They are in Penglai for a celebration of a human servant turning 100 years old.  I really enjoyed the contrast of Ben being a newer vampire and yet powerful, and his view of the humans in Penglai. Then we have Tenzin who is ancient and even more powerful, with knowledge of how things work in the world for vampires and humans, with the customs and hierarchies.

There is almost no crime because everyone follows the traditions and has respect for them. Also, I suspect any human criminals are quickly dead. Now with a priceless treasure stolen, Ben and Tenzin are asked to "find" it.  They are "asked" but it's not really a choice. Their investigation provides a deep view of the power structure, expected traditions and roles in the Penglai society. There is also a nice comparison of Ben's views and Tenzin's and how they work together utilizing their varied perspectives.

Ben and Tenzin uncover more things which don't make sense, similarly to the theft. Then there is a murder.  Things are only more tense, with the vampire elders impatient for resolution,  but our couple figures everything out and works out a satisfying resolution.  I love watching them work together and how they support each other and help the other avoid stepping too far out of the any society norms.  Pearl Sky has a richly developed setting and the character development of the couple is priceless for fans.

I read this book in a day, I liked it so much. The two main characters in the book are Ben and Tenzin, who are familiar characters. If you are intrigued by this book but feel like you are missing background, I'd recommend reading a few of the first books in the Elemental Mysteries series. Ben was raised by vampires and is a relatively new vampire in this story, whereas Tenzin is thousands of years old.

Penglai is an island that is the seat of eight of the most powerful immortals of the world. There is also a human population who live in a town on the island. Agriculture is the primary occupation and there isn't much technology.

High ranking immortals from all over the world are travelling to Penglai, to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of Elder Zhang's human servants. Shortly after Ben and Tenzin arrive, a gorgeous seal was discovered to have been stolen from one of the two gates to the immortal's compound. The seal was a carving of a dragon which contained a large, rare pearl. To complicate matters even more, the powerful immortal who had gifted the pearl was also on her way to the celebration, and she would not be pleased to find it missing.

Ben and Tenzin were not suspects as they arrived after the theft was discovered, so they were asked to investigate. Visiting the small town raised even more questions for them, unrelated to the theft of the pearl. They encountered conflicting stories and lies, a mystery about imported wheat, and discovered that life on the isolated island had a lot of drawbacks for some people, such as for the young girl who was blind and whose local school wasn't equipped to teach her. Who could be desperate enough to steal from an immortal?

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher Recurve Press LLC via NetGalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

Christmas has come early. A new book from Elizabeth Hunter featuring Ben and Tenzin. They have got to be my favourite couple in the Elemental world. I adore their relationship. I mean who can’t relate to this from Tenzin –

“Once, Tenzin had battled the twin urges in her blood to destroy anything that might keep her apart from Benjamin while also experiencing the occasional impulse to eliminate him.
Nothing about becoming his mate had conquered those duelling desires. If anything her longing for him became more intense, as did the instinct to strangle him as he slept.”

A declaration of love like that deserves be on a valentine’s card although maybe without the occasional! Throw in a mystery involving the theft of a precious artefact, a murder and treachery amongst the vampire elite and I was one happy reader. I loved the author’s vivid description of Pengali Island, home of the eight ancient vampire elders including Ben and Tenzin’s sire. It’s almost like a land that time forgot and I enjoyed how the more recently sired Ben struggled with the lives that the human population led on the island in contrast to Tenzin’s blasé attitude but then again she has lived with it for millennia. I loved the humour that their visit to the store in Beijing brought to the story. It eased some of the tension from vampire politics making Pearl Sky a fantastic addition to the Elemental Legacy series. I can’t wait to read more and see how Ben and Tenzin’s relationship develops alongside Ben’s burgeoning powers.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Pearl Sky. Elizabeth Hunter did not disapoint with this book. This book by far exceeds all other Ben and Tenzin books. The chemistry between these two vampires is off the chart, and I love that they are still learning things about each other. Their relationship is very young in the vampire world, so to see them so in love, in their own Benzin way. I am pretty sure that Tenzin would go to the ends of the world for Ben and same with Ben.
When Ben and Tenzin are invited to a celebration on Penglai Island, things get interesting. When the Pearl Dragon gets stolen off of the Pearl Gate, the elders decide to put Ben and Tenzin on the case. They have to figure out who took it and why before a special guests shows up.
Pearl Sky lets us dive right into how Penglai Island works. Ben and Tenzin get a first glimps as to how the island is run and how the humans live with vampires.
I love these stories of Ben and Tenzin. They cant seem to stay out of trouble for very long. where ever they go, it seems that they find danger and adventure where ever they go. This is a must read! I enjoyed all the new characters, pluse some special old friends.

An entrancing and addictive paranormal mystery, Pearl Sky is a must read for fans of Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Universe. Ben and Tenzin are back on Penglai for the 100th birthday celebration of elder Zhang’s servant when they are asked to investigate a politically sensitive theft. This book provides a look at life outside the Palace of the Eight Immortals and as Ben and Tenzin work to gather information on the theft, Ben begins to question the extent of free will and choice that the humans of Penglai experience.

As Ben views the culture, society, and labor structure of the mortal inhabitants of Penglai through the lens of his modern values and experiences, he challenges Tenzin’s attitude of the mortals as resources to be managed and used. The dichotomy of modern vs. traditional/ancient in Ben and Tenzin’s relationship is always fascinating. I enjoyed Ben and Tenzin’s debates on Penglai’s human inhabitants, especially appreciating that they were each able to concede the validity of (a few) points. As is often the case in life, a fresh set of eyes sees what those too close to the situation discount or miss.

From the moment Ben Vecchio, Gio’s charming “fake nephew”, was introduced as a child in the Elemental Mysteries series, through his growth to adulthood and tumultuous relationship with Tenzin, he has been a favorite character of mine. In Pearl Sky, I feel that Ben has come into his own. He is comfortable with who he is and confident in his power; a power much greater than we have seen previously. He has matured in his relationship with Tenzin as well; able to see past her words, to what her heart is saying. This mature Ben Vecchio is even more attractive, and I didn’t think that was possible!

Tenzin has always been an enigma to me. The more I learn, the more layers I know there must be. She is a fascinating and complex woman; a fierce fighter, thief, and missing artifact investigator with a dragon’s obsession with treasure, yet Tenzin can also be gentle, compassionate, and tender. When Tenzin refers to Ben as “my Benjamin” my breath catches. Unintentionally humorous, her comments are often worth a highlight…and a meme!

Thank you to NetGalley, Valentine PR, and the author for giving me an ebook copy of Pearl Sky. I am happy to provide my honest review.

OMG!!!! I loved this "Who Done It" addition to the Elemental Legacy series. I am so glad I gave myself to hide away and read Pearl Sky. This is a story that deserved and needed my full attention.

Anytime Tenzin heads to Penglai Island my heart starts beating faster. Tenzin has "daddy issues" with Zhang, one of the eight elders that rule the region. Having Ben with her had me gleaming. I just knew the story was going to be amazing. They share the same sire but they don't always the same beliefs. Bring on the drama!!!!

Ben and Tenzin are well know as finders of lost artifacts. The elders soon have them searching for an item. It is important that the item be found. For lasting peace, failure is unacceptable.

What they discover, what they expose, will have your mouth dropping. Shock and awe is at its finest in Pearl Sky. I wasn't the only left in shock. I can only imagine what is going on in the minds of the elders. I can't wait to see what happens next.

In short: Pearl Sky is Benzin at their best. This book just works SO. WELL.

With Ben and Tenzin being some of my most favorite characters, I was over the moon to learn that they had a new story coming out (and even more excited to read an early copy). Although theoretically shorter than the previous five books in the Elemental Legacy series, Pearl Sky is very much a full-fledged mystery that takes us deep into the inner workings of one of the more semi-mythical locations in the Elemental world: Penglai Island.

On the surface, Pearl Sky is a missing artifact mystery: a valuable seal has been stolen, and Ben and Tenzin have only a few days to find it, or risk angering a whole slew of powerful vampires and setting off a chain of diplomatic consequences. We meet some new characters, and get to visit with some old favorites – or, not-so-favorites, if you’re Ben (there is drama, and it is delightful).

It’s a solid mystery with a good number of twists that keeps the story moving at a quick pace without becoming too busy – especially because, as with any Ben and Tenzin book, the surface plot is richly interwoven with an exploration of larger themes: concepts of change, growth, justice, and forgiveness, among others. (A continuation of a conversation that I think these characters have been having for nine books now; I love that it is an ongoing discussion.)

Fans of the series will be happy to know that Tenzin is peak Tenzin. I am perpetually delighted by how non-perfect her relationship with Ben is: the irritable moments, the teasing, the way they both push each other into difficult conversations and moments of growth. But unlike in the previous books, Ben and Tenzin have largely settled a lot of their early relationship strife and misunderstandings - and so we have a chance to see them finally have the chance to approach some larger and more complex conversations.

I adore the new glimpses we get into Tenzin’s past, but also love the fact that despite her recent steps towards personal growth, she remains, at heart, our favorite loveable, lightly murderous, gold-obsessed magpie. For all the poignant moments, there is plenty of the banter and shenanigans that have made these two such a delight to read for so many books.

I also want to give a shoutout to the worldbuilding, which has always been one of my favorite parts of the Elemental series. I really loved the way this book explored some of the questions around how Penglai could exist and operate, isolated from the rest of the world – including digging into some of the uglier realities and downsides of what that operation might mean for the people living there.

Overall, 10/10, loved every moment of it.

(And, as a note for anyone who read Paladin’s Kiss and is wondering about that line: this does indeed seem like a thread that will continue to get tugged, which I am endlessly excited about.)

Short, thoughtful, bitter, and sweet

Tenzin and Ben are synonymous with adventure. This does not often include mystery, but who better to solve a crime of theft than than thieves? There are layers entwined with tradition, history, and politics smacking up against ambition. Followed by by greed and murder. Hunters characters are likeable and interesting. Looking forward to the next adventure that entangles a dynamic pair of vampires.

The relationship between B & T is evolving as Ben comes into his power & Tenzin grows anew parts she’d excised from her soul countless centuries before and as always a light humour & warmth suffuses each book that makes them both pleasant & entertaining to read :)

Really enjoyed this one! Solid mystery, fun new human character I hope we see again, and a good look at the very interesting world of Penglai.

Still have a hard time believing how quickly Ben is coming into his power and skill, and had a hard time believing anyone would awe or impress Tenzin, but other than that I love seeing their relationship grow.

Benzin for life!!! This is my favorite book couple ever. I don’t care how long to story, I am reading it. Tenzin is my inspiration. She knows who and what she is and makes no apologies. Ben is the best mate she could ask for. He is caring, strong, and has a big heart to go with all his mega power.

Once again Ben and Tenzin are on the hunt for a priceless artifact. This time it hits much closer to home. Master Zhang has set them on a task to find something that was stolen. The crazy duo are taken all over the islands all while arguing and loving each other. Not only is the mystery very good but I adored getting to see these two actually together. It is beautiful the way they interact and push each other to be better. The author keeps the characters true to themselves while being able to mesh their personalities flawlessly.

In this story we see so much of Penglai island that we have never seen or heard of before. Getting to see all the humans and how they live was amazing. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with the way things are, and have been for thousands of years. When secrets fester then danger can arise.

I recommend this book and this entire series. Read it, reread it, and love it like I do!
