Set up the Shopify Messaging app

Shopify Messaging is installed on your Shopify store by default. Before you start using Shopify Messaging, verify that your store meets all of the requirements, and review email and SMS pricing.

Install Shopify Messaging

If you don't have the Shopify Messaging app in your Shopify admin, then you can install it from the Shopify App Store.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Shopify Messaging app page.
  2. Click Add app. If you aren't logged in to your Shopify account, then you're prompted to log in.
  3. Click Install app.

After you install Shopify Messaging, you can access the app from Apps > Shopify Messaging in your Shopify admin.

Setting up each Shopify Messaging marketing channel

After you install the Shopify Messaging app, review the following resources to set up each of the channels you want to market with through Shopify Messaging:

Optional: Set a monthly spending threshold

You can set an optional monthly spending threshold to get an email notification when your Shopify Messaging costs reach an amount that you set. The spending threshold applies to your combined spending across email, SMS, and WhatsApp. This includes costs from campaigns, marketing automations, and Autopilot. You can set one threshold for your store, and it resets at the start of each month.

When you reach your threshold, the account owner of your store receives an email notification, and a warning is displayed in your Shopify Messaging settings. Setting a threshold doesn't prevent your account from being billed when your costs exceed the amount.

Set a spending threshold

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Messaging.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. In the Monthly spending alert section, click Add threshold.

  4. In the dialog, enter your threshold amount.

  5. Click Save.

Change or remove your spending threshold

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Messaging.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. In the Monthly spending alert section, click the Manage drop-down menu.

  4. Do either of the following actions:

    • To change your threshold, click Edit threshold, change the amount, and then click Save.
    • To remove your threshold, click Remove threshold.

Optional: Configure your Smart delivery setting

Smart delivery filters your campaign audience so that your message is sent only to engaged subscribers, such as customers who have interacted with your recent marketing. Smart delivery is on by default and applies across your channels. Learn how to review or change your delivery settings.
