ADVISORY – EPHRATA – TOMORROW – DEP to Announce $17.4 Million and Highlight County Progress for Healthy Local Waters in Chesapeake Bay Watershed

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Patrick McDonnell will join Lancaster Clean Water Partners, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and TeamAg, Inc. at Brilyn Acres farm tomorrow to announce $17 million in grant funding and highlight counties’ path-breaking work for healthy streams, rivers, and lakes in Pennsylvania’s share of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

The event will showcase a heavy use area underway and a six-acre streambank buffer recently completed to reduce nutrient and sediment runoff water pollution at the small cattle grazing operation. Both projects are part of the Lancaster Countywide Action Plan.

Secretary McDonnell’s visit to Ephrata is one of three DEP media events on Thursday highlighting the progress counties are making in the watershed and the need for broad support for their efforts. Additional events are happening in Lycoming and Lackawanna counties.
