ILO calls for papers to help stop racial discrimination at work

ILO is calling for insights and recommendations on how to eliminate racial discrimination at work. The Call is open until 1 July 2022. Authors of up to 20 selected papers will receive an award of 500 USD and will be invited to present their papers in an on-line symposium. |

AFRALTI commits to partnership in capacity building on digital skills for African youth

African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI), an Inter-Governmental Institute to supplement and guide ICT development efforts mainly in English-speaking countries within Africa, has pledged a commitment to Decent Jobs for Youth, and in partnership with IBM, aim to equip youth in Kenya with advanced digital skills for jobs through an innovative digital learning system. Blossom Academy: Fully Sponsored Training Program on Data Analytics and Data Science
|
|
Blossom Academy has been awarded 45 scholarships to train unemployed and underemployed young people in Ghana and Nigeria and connect them with job opportunities at local tech start-ups. The project is developed by Digital Africa and financed by GIZ as commissioned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The link to apply for the opportunity can be found Here |

AFRALTI: Skillsbuild for Students
|
|
African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) partnered with IBM to roll out the SkillsBuild for Students (formerly Open p-tech 4 Africa) in Kenya in efforts to prepare the Kenyan youth for the fourth industrial revolution. SkillsBuild offers free learning, support, and resources from secondary education (students aged 14-25) to adults seeking entry-level employment.
The program has so far supported 1,300 learners in Kenya in developing soft skills. AFRALTI and IBM invites other partners to come on board and help reach all youths in Kenya in the Skillsbuild for student which is fully sponsored by IBM. Read more |

Development Alternatives: NABARD Award to Garima Girls and Saida (e-rickshaw entrepreneur)
|
|
On 11 March 2022, in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, an award ceremony was conducted by implementing partners wherein NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) State General Manager for Uttar Pradesh Mr. Himanshu Mishra and other dignitaries participated and encouraged the women entrepreneurs of the Work4Progress program.
25 women entrepreneurs participated in the event and 2 entrepreneurs (Mrs. Saida (e-rickshaw driver) and Mrs. Kanklata (pickle manufacturer and aggregator) along with Garima girls group (young aspiring women from Technology Challenge project) were awarded with Letter of Appreciation for their role in women empowerment in Mirzapur district. |

On 15 February 2022, Development Alternatives participated in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) session titled ‘Right By Youth’s Side: Preventing and mitigating the socioeconomic vulnerabilities and COVID consequences’, under the Work4Progress program.
This session was organised as part of their event - Inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being, and dignity for all: eradicating poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions to achieve the 2030 Agenda. Record of the session |

Nexus Skills and Jobs for youth
|
|
The Nexus Skills and Jobs programme, managed by Dutch Embassies and active in 9 countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, Burundi, Somalia, Ethiopia, Tunisia), focusses on improving the transition from education to a decent job and income for young men and women.
In Jordan, a Nexus project aims to provide labour market oriented technical training in ICT, market entry/soft skills training, and entrepreneurial training in order to increase income generation prospects of Jordanians youths in the formal employment or self-employment.
Another Nexus project in Somalia aims to improve the Social Contract by improving the economic participation of youth through increased skills, employment and self- employment. Read more |
