The City of Hamilton is bracing for a weekend of traffic chaos due to a stretch of Highway 403 in west Hamilton closing.
The city told The Spectator Thursday that a Highway 403 westbound closure planned for earlier this month by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has been reschedule to this weekend, from Friday at 11 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 3, at 5 a.m.
The closure, from Highway 6 to King Street West, was originally expected to happen in mid-September but was delayed because of weather.

Entrance ramps to the 403 from Highway 6, York Boulevard and Main Street West will also be closed.
The city warns residents to expect traffic delay along nearby Main and King streets as well as the surrounding lower city. The city will be modifying signal changes in the downtown core to lessen the traffic impacts.
“As a result of this closure, road users from the highway will be detouring along the Queen Elizabeth Way using the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway. Motorists travelling on the westbound Highway 403 will be detoured onto Highway 6,” the city said.
The planned MTO bridge rehabilitation work includes:
Removal and replacement of existing asphalt and waterproofing;
Removal of select deteriorating concrete in deck;
Concrete patch repairs on deck, soffit, and fascia;
Crack injection on barriers and abutment walls;

HSR bus routes including 5 Delaware, 6 Aberdeen, 7 Locke, 8 York, 9 Rock Gardens, 10 B-Line, 11 Parkdale, 51 University are also expecting delays due to traffic.
Leave yourself a lot of extra time to travel this weekend.
