RHODE ISLAND VS. PROVIDENCE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island welcomes Providence for its second straight game at the Ryan Center Monday night.
  • It's the 53rd meeting between the Friars and the Rams. Providence leads 39-13.
  • Rhody beat Providence 66-53 last season at Alumni Hall (11/17/21).
  • Nov. 28, 2020 was the last time the Friars visted Kingston. PC handed Rhody a 76-50 loss. 
  • Providence opened its 2022-23 campaign defeating A-10 foe Dayton 69-60. Most recently, PC beat Stonehill 56-32.
  • Last time out, the Rams won convincingly over Dartmouth, 89-36. 
  • Five Rams raked in double figures in scoring, led by 16 points from grad transfer Sayawni Lassiter.
  • Providence senior Janai Crooms was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. She currently leads the Friars with an average of 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. 
  • PC was picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll.

DEFENSE AND REBOUNDING.

  • Last time out against Dartmouth Rhode Island swarmed the Big Green from the start, using a stifling defense and an efficient offense to record the fourth largest margin of victory in program history.  
  • The Rams had a full defensive effort, combining as a team for 47 rebounds and 15 steals.
  • Rhode Island scored 39 points off of 27 forced turnovers. 
  • It was a full team win, with 10 different players scoring, 10 different players having at least one rebound and 10 different players record at least one assist.
  • Rhody had two in double figures on the glass. Freshman Anaelle Dutat dominated with 12 rebounds, while redshirt freshman Hawa Komara grabbed 10.  Seven of Komara's boards were on the offensive end.

FORECAST CALLS FOR RAINING THREES

  • Rhode Island has been 42 percent from 3-point range through its first two games of the season.
  • Through two contests, Rhody has made 21 shots from beyond the arc already.
  • In the game against Dartmouth last Friday, three Rams connected on at least three shots from deep.
  • Both grad transfer Sayawni Lassiter (4-of-6)  and sophomore Emmi Rinat (4-of-9) made four treys. 
  • Sophomore Sophie Phillips connected on 3-of-5 from long range en route to her career-best 11 points in the win. 
  • With 14 3-pointers Friday, the Rams were one shy of the program's single-game record. 
  • Junior Dolly Cairns has connected on at least one 3-pointer in both of the Rams first two games.
