Wakefield Trinity given huge stadium news

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed that Wakefield Council today approved the planning application for the redevelopment of the Be Well Support Stadium at Belle Vue together with the application in respect of Plot 8 at Newmarket.

These approvals pave the way for work to start on the redevelopment in early 2022 subject to the necessary statutory consents and formal signing of a S106 agreement which has already been agreed in principle.

John Minards, Chairman said; “This is fantastic news and marks another significant milestone in our plans to develop the Be Well Support Stadium at Belle Vue into a Community Stadium for the people of Wakefield. We look forward to completing the necessary legal processes in January and making a start in earnest shortly thereafter.”

Wakefield Trinity are very grateful to the many people who supported this application and in particular, at this stage, Chris Calvert and the team at Pegasus Group, the club’s planning advisors, as well as Turner and Townsend, AFL Architects, Stantec, Waterman Group, Smeeden Foreman and the club’s legal advisors Williams & Co.

It’s a major step forward for the West Yorkshire side who recently was the beneficiary of a £2 million grant from the council alongside Castleford Tigers and Featherstone Rovers.
