MLK Student Scholarship

Kentucky State University (KSU), in partnership with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Planning Committee, is excited to offer the annual MLK Student Scholarship. The scholarship is open to Ky high school seniors who plan to attend KSU. Scholarship recipients will receive one-year of paid tuition to KSU beginning the Fall 2022 semester. Click here for the 2022 Scholarship flyer. 


Eligibility: 

Students must be a Ky resident, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and a minimum ACT score of 18. Recipients will be chosen based on their essay in addition to extracurricular and community activities they are involved in that demonstrate a commitment to civil and human rights. Academic excellence and achievement will also be considered throughout the selection process
 

Application Requirements:

For consideration for the scholarship, students must submit: 

  • A completed application form
  • A resume and/or list of extracurricular and community activities
  • A 350-500 word count essay on either of the following topics: 
    • ​If MLK were alive today, what would he say about the state of our country during this global pandemic?
    • How have HBCU's been disproportionately affected during this global pandemic?
  • A completed KSU application

Congratulations to Jiya Alcorn, a senior at Henry Clay High School, who was named the recipient of the 2021 MLK Student Scholarship. Dr. Erica Gray, executive director of academic support and persistence at Kentucky State University recently presented Jiya with the scholarship award virtually. Jiya is enrolled and will begin her freshman year at KSU this Fall where she will major in accounting.
