MELAKA: Some 300 residents of Taman Bukit Tambun Perdana in Durian Tunggal here are worried about being hit by a landslide.

Their spokesman Zahari Samsuddin, 37, said the housing estate experienced a landslip last month and subsequent soil movements have placed the area at high risk of a devastating landslide.

"It's a ticking time bomb. We are worried for our safety following the Batang Kali landslide tragedy," he said after holding a peaceful gathering with a group of residents at the housing estate on Sunday (Dec 18).

Zahari said cracks have appeared in the columns of some houses due to soil instability following the recent landslip, which involved a 10m-high slope close to some homes in the housing estate.

"This is a newly-completed project and we want the local authority and developer to take remedial measures," he said.

Resident Tarriq Samdin, 36, said his porch was affected by the soil movement.

"This happened less than a year after we moved into our new home," he said.

Muhammad Faid Muhammad Fazli, 28, hoped the relevant authorities would address their concerns as quickly as possible.

"We are worried for our lives," he added.

On Friday (Dec 16), a landslide hit the Father's Organic Farm campsite at Kampung Kuantan in Batang Kali, Selangor. So far, 24 people have been confirmed dead while 61 others survived and nine are still missing.
