Mega project in China: They built the new hanging gardens of Babylon (video-photos)

Skyscraper complex with 1,000 trees and 250,000 plants opens its gates in Shanghai

A new skyscraper complex built in China is reminiscent of the hanging gardens of Babylon.

The British architectural firm Heatherwick Studio designed the new mega project that was implemented in Shanghai, China.

The new complex of skyscrapers extends to more than 60 acres and thousands of plants hang on its facade.

The building is covered with 1,000 trees, from which it got its name as “Skyscraper of 1,000 trees and 250,000 plants”.

So far 125,000 have been planted and as many are expected.

The skyscraper gives the feeling of a mountain with two peaks in front of the coastal zone of Shanghai.

And although the skyscraper may have opened its gates to companies and the public, its coverage with green has not yet been completed.

When the tree planting is completed, the concrete building is expected to “disappear” into the trees and plants.

Huangshan Mountain, listed by UNESCO as “the most beautiful mountain in China”, was used as a model for the architectural design.
