JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 08 February 2023 – Samsung has added 10 more years to its initial 10-year warranty on key components on selected appliances. This 20-year warranty1 is clear evidence of Samsung’s devotion to providing high-quality and durable appliances that have stood the test of time, improving the lives of users in South African homes and beyond.

At Bespoke Home 2022 in June last year, Samsung introduced its vision for sustainable solutions at home based on the Bespoke concept of flexible appliances that adapt to provide efficient home care solutions as lives evolve. This concept includes reducing waste by extending the lifespan of Samsung’s appliances through reliability as frequent replacement of home appliances not only costs time and energy, but also produces physical waste. Samsung aims to further combat this waste with sustainable solutions based on durability backed by the company’s incredible 20-year warranty for the Digital Inverter Technologies2 (DIT) on selected fridges and washing machines which has gone into effect from 01 November 2022.

Samsung Digital Inverter Technology is an inverter controlled by software that operates a variable-speed compressor. And, for added peace of mind, it is backed up by the 20-year warranty service offer. This increase from a 10-year warranty to 20-years reflects Samsung’s confidence and commitment to its products. Samsung fridges are VDE-Certified3 – an internationally accredited institution in the field of testing. VDE is the independent and neutral testing and certification institute based in Germany – well known for its strict quality assessment standards. Samsung’s compressor was put through 310 000 cycle tests by VDE, and it passed. The 20-year warranty on the Digital inverter compressor is a testament of the reliability in Samsung fridges – able to offer silent durability and energy efficiency.

Samsung fridges in particular provide consumers with both amazing aesthetics and incredible quality. Samsung’s technologically innovative Bespoke range has – over the years – been evolving, providing consumers with peace of mind and brand trust. The start of Samsung’s commitment began with research and development. Through decades of continued investment, Samsung is able to offer consumers appliances that pair the most advanced Samsung technologies with beautiful designs that elevate the home experience.

Every Samsung product goes through a rigorous quality assurance phase during which the products are tested to ensure they will function properly for many years. Samsung’s DIT, specifically, is the result of the company’s investment into quality. This DIT is an essential core component of the appliances they power. Built on more than 25 years of research and development, DIT affects everything from energy efficiency to performance as well as the durability of major appliances.

As such, protecting the integrity of this core component with a 20-year warranty has extended the use period of appliances, offering peace of mind for users through reliability while reducing environmental waste. Samsung is therefore offering consumers durability that is derived from decades of innovation.

To get a better understanding, let’s find out what digital inverters are and how they work. In washing machines, the DIT comes in the form of a Digital Inverter Motor (DIM) used to spin and pulsate the drum of the washing machine during laundry cycles. In refrigerators, Digital Inverter Technology takes the form of Digital Inverter Compressors (DIC) that act as the heart of the unit, circulating cold air throughout the compartments. Samsung’s DIC intelligently adjusts its power depending on circumstances instead of just turning on and off.

In practice, this means that Samsung refrigerators run at higher power settings during high-usage times such as during the day and run at reduced power settings, saving energy during low-usage times such as at night. The intelligently efficient DIC can also adjust gradually moving along the power setting scale to save energy and prolong the life of a fridge by reducing on and off cycles.

By applying the warranty to Samsung’s Digital Inverter Technologies, the company is making a commitment to its users to provide added value for years to come. Honouring this pledge means, that while the appliance is in production or even thereafter, the parts required to maintain and service DITs will now be made available for 20 years. Consumers can be assured that Samsung servicing using Samsung-made products will be there when they need them.
