Dear Third District Resident,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I am looking forward to this holiday season, spending meaningful time with my family and wish the same for you and yours. I hope this season and the New Year brings you much peace and happiness.

If you’re looking for a light conversation starter on Christmas Day, use the fun, Christmas-themed trivia questions below. To find the answers, scroll to the bottom of this newsletter.

  1. Which country did candy canes come from?
  2. Which one of Santa’s reindeers has the same name as another holiday mascot?
  3. How many Christmas trees are up for display in the White House?
  4. Where were Christmas cards first sold?
  5. What popular Christmas song was written for Thanksgiving?

Sincere regards,

CSAC Presidency Nomination

Leading the California State Association of Counties

Last month, I was elected by the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Board of Directors to serve as the 2022-2023 President. CSAC is an organization that serves as a platform for all 58 California counties leaders to exchange our stories and best practices in order to address our most pressing issues.

It is an honor to serve as the CSAC 2022-2023 President and lead this county-driven organization as we work together and improve our communities through partnership with our city and state colleagues.

Riverside Supervisorial District 2021

Redistricting Update: Board Approves Washington Steward of Menifee, Romoland

Every 10 years federal, state, and county district boundaries are redrawn to reflect population changes as indicated by the Census. My colleagues and I adopted new district boundaries that will go into effect in two phases, once in January 2023, and again in January 2025.

To provide the best service possible, my colleagues designated me to serve as the steward of the City of Menifee and Community of Romoland. Both areas leave the 5th District this coming January but do not officially join the 3rd District until January 2025.

If you are a resident of Menifee or Romoland and need assistance with the County, my team and I stand ready to help you.

County Budget Update

Riverside County has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 22/23 fiscal year budget. Board Chair Jeff Hewit and I attended a meeting with the Governor to discuss more aggressive and creative ways to address homelessness. The board has accepted Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) grant funds in the amount of $3.9 million to prevent, reduce and end homelessness.
