NVIDIA RTX 4090 Ti with triple-fan reference cooler?
The RTX 40 series might still be months away, but the rumor mill is not slowing down.
The latest comes from Kopite7kimi who reveals NVIDIA has been working on a reference cooler with three fans. While it does not guarantee that such cooler will be used in a production unit any time soon, it wouldn’t be totally surprising.
Almost every custom RTX 3090 Ti graphics card relies on either triple-fan cooler or hybrid liquid solutions. The alternative is a bulky NVIDIA reference cooler with two fans pointing in opposite directions. But two fans might not be enough once NVIDIA embarks on a journey to 600W GPUs.
The company has never used a triple-fan cooling solution for its reference models. In fact, the company has never used liquid coolers either. This is a completely different approach than AMD’s, who have been experimenting with triple-fan coolers (Radeon VII) or liquid solutions (RX 6900XT LC/Fury X) for quite some time.
Rumor alleges that a triple-fan cooler for reference AD102 board exists (so PG136/139). This does not mean it will be used by RTX 4090 though, but more likely for RTX 4090 Ti, which is rumored to launch later with even higher TDP.

One should note that a very similar rumor appeared right before the RTX 30 series were released. NVIDIA was allegedly had a triple-fan reference cooler for engineering samples of its RTX 30 series. However, it was never used for any of the flagship GA102 models.
GeForce RTX 40 series (now) later than expected
Kopite has also confirmed today that the mid-July launch of RTX 40 series is clearly not happening. The leaker backed down from previous claims and now agrees with launch dates proposed by Wccftech. There it is said that RTX 4090 should launch no sooner than in October.
NVIDIA has been sharing different dates with board partners for the past couple of weeks. They are clearly not yet eager to launch a replacement for their RTX 30 models this soon, as these cards are becoming harder to sell at MSRP by the day. That could be the main reason for launch date update.
