Ex-Warrington Wolves and Leigh Centurions player jailed for assaulting family member in drunken attack

An ex-Warrington Wolves, Leigh Centurions and Widnes Vikings player has been jailed after drunkenly attacking a family member.

Jamie Durbin, who came through the Warrington academy and made his debut for the Wolves in 2003 before making the move to Cheshire rivals Widnes in 2005, has been locked up for almost two months after admitting assault and breaching supervision requirements, according to the Runcorn and Widnes World.

The charge related to an incident in Widnes on the 23rd December – Durbin was sentenced on Christmas Eve and was also ordered to pay a £128 fee to the victim.

The 37-year-old, of Greenway Road in Widnes, was said to have had a ‘poor record for like offending’ during his case at the magistrates’ court.

The halfback was banned from rugby league for two years in 2006 after testing positive for having anabolic steroids in his system, but returned to the sport to play 25 games for the Leigh Centurions in 2009 and 2010.

Durbin ended his career with the North Wales Crusaders, registering 15 appearance over a period of four seasons, before retiring in 2015.

The 37-year-old does have the accolade of being the final try scorer for the Warrington Wolves in their last official game at Wilderspool Stadium in a tour match against a New Zealand ‘A’ side touring the UK.
