Jared

They say love and hate dance together along the same line.
My feelings for Layla don’t dance on the line; they destroy it.
It’s been seven years since she disappeared without a trace.
And now she’s back, but things have changed—I’ve changed.
I’m no longer the Jared she remembers, the boy who wanted to protect her.
I’m very much my father’s son, and I take what I want, and what I want is Layla.
But this time, I’m keeping her forever.

Layla

Seven years—that’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen him.
After painstakingly putting myself back together, I’m finally ready to start a life without his memory chasing my every step.
Imagine my surprise when my new beginning leads me straight back to him.
Only he’s not the boy I remember.
He’s angry.
Damaged.
Hiding secrets that want to destroy him.
He hates me. He wants me.

I’m not sure I’ll survive the man he has become. His demons threaten to destroy us both.

3.75 stars--SAVE ME is the second instalment in Vi Carter’s contemporary, new adult BROKEN PEOPLE dark, erotic, romance duet focusing on nineteen year olds Jared McGivney and Layla Masters. SAVE ME can not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME. There is a slight cross over with the author’s Young Irish Rebels/ Wild Irish series.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read book one there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Jared and Layla met and grew up in the foster care system, a system that let down our story line couple. Seven years earlier, following a catastrophic injury, twelve year old, Layla disappeared, leaving Jared to fight the system, and their abusers, on his own.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jared and Layla) SAVE ME picks up immediately after the cliff hanger of book one DECEIVE ME in which Layla is the victim of an attack that has left our heroine struggling to survive. Unable to recall the events leading up to that fateful night, Layla struggles with the confusion only to realize the young man she has always loved is keeping secrets about what happened and why. Battling between head and heart, Layla’s love for Jared never falters but his secrets and lies are threatening the tepid truce and reconciliation between our story line couple. As Jared sets a plan into motion seeking to avenge the attack on Layla Masters, ghosts from the past resurface threatening to take down the man that Layla loves.

The relationship between Layla and Jared continues to grow; a second chance love affair between two people broken by the system, destroyed by betrayal, power and control but all is not well in the McGivney household, and another betrayal is about to tear Jared apart. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Layla’s adopted parents Evelyn and Carl Masters; Jared’s father Athar McGivney, and his mother Maura; Irish Mafia son Warren O’Reagan (Young Irish Rebels series); as well as fellow students Ashley, Abby, and Caroline, and the mean girls including Jared’s ex Alex. The requisite evil have many faces.

SAVE ME is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and control, desperation, power, greed and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are struggling, broken but trying to heal. There is quite a bit going on; quite a few twists and turns, and surprising revelations but saying that I felt there were too many details missing with regards to the divulging of the truth and the past- I was hoping for more intimate specifics and particulars.

This is the second book in the Broken People Duet. You have to read Deceive me first or you are going to be very lost. I think my heart about stopped beating in my chest from the way Deceive Me ended. I know that I couldn't breathe for a few seconds and then was all why why why about it. Holy cow what a cliffhanger that one was so I was so excited to have Save Me in my hands to see what the heck had happened. Thank goodness Save Me picked right up where Deceive Me had ended. Then we are thrown head first in to twists and turns that will have your head spinning and you sure will not want to lay this book down. Layla and Jared are two people that absolutely love each other and that love is never ever going to go away. Jared has this aggressive nature about him that worries Layla at times but that is what has happened while Layla has been gone and she is about to get the full story of Jared and I hoped we were all ready for it. These two both suffer from some trauma from being raised in foster care and at times there are outside influences that they both have to deal with and I loved their growth together in this book. I do not really feel like I can tell you much about the story at all and not ruin something. I will tell you that this is one of those books that you devour and your right in the moments with Jared and Layla and when you close the book I know that I had a big old smile on my face and felt that all was right in the world. I hope y'all feel that way too when you finish I really loved this duet.

“I’d give him everything. I’d give him all of me.”

Oh. My. YES!!! Vi Carter’s Broken People Duet wholeheartedly owned me! Save Me is a beautifully broken saga of soulmates, survival, sacrifice and second chances at love and life. A must-read romance for anyone who believes that love can heal even the most complicated of wounds.

Readers will fall for this coming of age romance where two soulmates must battle the past and perception before they can become one. I fell for this couple, rooting for them the whole time reading. Jared is the ultimate hero and I crushed on him so hard … feeling his protectiveness, his all alpha persona and his deep love for Layla. Layla grew stronger and I admired her so much.

Broken sees broken, and Jared and Layla are two kindred spirits with beautiful hearts. Like stars in the night, they shine together as one, always finding their way back to each other. I felt this hero and heroine’s undeniable connection with chemistry that explodes through the pages in this all-the-feels tale threaded with friendship, fate, and forever love. Irresistible. Inevitable.

Save Me is HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL and BRILLIANTLY TOLD. Carter crafts a compassionate and compelling childhood to lovers romance that breathes fire, blazes with intensity, and bleeds beauty and bravery. I burned for this book! Pure intoxication.

💋💋💋💋💋 fiery and forever kisses

I loved this book. I've been waiting a month for the conclusion to this story.

In the last book we were left with the gun going off aimed at Layla, my heart stopped when I realized that was the end. After much grumbling... I wrote my review and posted it. Ms. Carter, such a crafter of words and worlds, contacted me and told me I had only a month to wait for the follow up. I sighed.

This book was so worth the wait! I was right back in Ireland, in that mansion, with that loving couple as soon as I read the first words.

Being a coming of age book, this book took a couple turns and had some teenage angst that keep you guessing. I do admit I was looking for the party that Alex tried to sabotage for Layla, never did see them going to one after the shopping spree. Would have liked to see Layla show up in something heart stopping that Jared would have shown her off in and would have made Alex furious.

The twist about his mom and dad was interesting.

And yes, there were so many twits in this one, so many loving moments and sexy ones too. I adored it all the way through.

Five stars. A must pick up to go with Deceive Me if you don't have it already, why? You must read both. Thank you for letting us into your world, Ms. Carter and for giving me a chance to read these. .

Save Me by Vi Carter is book Two in the Broken People Duet. This continues the story of Layla and Jared, so you do need to read the previous book : Deceive Me before starting this one. This book picks up where the last one left us with our heart in and mouth. This book took off running in their story and we start to find the pieces of the their lives. This was such a great read. I always enjoy Ms. Carter's books and find them a page turning read.

This is book two in The Broken People Duet and it continues Jared and Layla's story and omg it was definitely a must read. Jared and Layla meet again after seven year's and even though there chemistry is just as strong and intense they are both totally different people to what they used to be and they have changed so much but will this be a second chance for them or has too much time last for them to ever make it work again. There are twists and turns along with betrayal, secrets, lies, trust issue's, suspense and takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I couldn't put it down as it had you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next and it was so addictive and a real page turner. Vi Carter is an amazing author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this duet and you will not be disappointed and I can't wait to read more of her book's in the future.

ARC Review of Save Me by Vi Carter (Book 2 of the Broken People Duet)
* * * * *
The conclusion of this duet has you shocked by hidden secrets and revealed lies. There is more to this epic tale of Layla and Jared than first thought.
After the powder keg of a conclusion from book 1 that had you hanging on for more after the explosive twist that left us wondering who was on the receiving end of that bullet, we are taken down a darker path.
Where is our shooter? Why is Arthar suddenly so nice? What is Jared hiding?
The love bond grows, nasty cows get what they deserve and families are tested.

Author: Vi Carter
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spiciness rating: 🌶🌶/5

Favorite Character: Jared
Tropes: Dark romance; friends-to-enemies-to-lovers; tortured hero; secrets & lies; opposites attract

Review:

I wish I had liked this book a little more. It was not bad, but it was not something that got to me. Layla was just so meek and scared, she let people do whatever they wanted with her and never spoke a word. It bothered me so much that I couldn’t enjoy it more.
There were some twists and turns, secrets revealed, bad people getting what they deserved.
If you like heroes that are totally dedicated to the heroine you will enjoy it.

4 1/2 stars
Save Me continues straight on from where Deceive Me finished with all of the excitement and anxiety of that perilous situation. This author is an expert at writing these scenes as she draws you in with her words. I have to say there were times when I was absolutely delighted, but I was also scared out of my wits too. 🤣

Layla and Jared’s story reveals some twists and turns that did take me by surprise and that unpredictability is always a good thing. I did have a hazy idea about something but I am sure we were meant to as Ms Carter was dropping little clues here and there along the way.

Jared’s aggressive nature at times worried Layla, and me as well, but there’s always a reason, so I almost wanted to start protecting him instead. His love for Layla is absolute as is hers for him. Outside influences play a part in their relationship, so they do have it tough at times and that’s not taking into consideration their trauma from being in foster care.

I gave this an extra half a star because I finished the story feeling absolutely fantastic and really—on a high. Nothing import was left unanswered and I thoroughly enjoyed how much the author solved problems when I was ready to admit I couldn’t see a possible solution. I recommend this duet to those who like slightly darker stories with good twists.

The continuation of Jared and Layla’s story starts where the first left us breatheless and things are starting to change for them. As Layla tries to heal from the incident her and Jared’s bond becomes stronger even if he carries so much guilt and anger on his shoulders. Jared wants to protect and keep Layla safe and she wants to love and keep him safe. As their relationship blooms others want to see it crash and as more secrets come to light we learn so much and finally get a lot of our answers questioned. Jared struggles with his anger but at the same time his love for Layla never wavers. Layla knows her and Jared are meant to be but with everything that has happened since they found each other again she too carries guilt, so how will they overcome this fear or will they? With so much pain that they both still carry will they be able to help each other through or will it eat away at them? Jared and Layla’s journey was never easy and they suffered greatly at the the hands of others, but the one thing that remained true was their love and devotion to each other. This duet was suspenseful, tragic, but the love and support they had was incredible.

After the cliffhanger at the end of the first book Deceive Me, I was fortunate enough to have gotten an ARC and pick up right where we left off. I loved the imagery, the emotions, and the suspense that Vi Carter has mastered in her writing. I had so many questions and was jumping to conclusions on what I thought was going to happen or come to light in Jared and Layla’s story. This duet showcases great character development with not only Layla and Jared but with the secondary characters as well.
I loved that Layla was stepping out of her comfort zone and she stayed true to herself and was empathetic with everyone even when they didn’t deserve her compassion. I adored Jared even more in this book because we see behind the mask he shows the world and learn that he’s human and vulnerable and loyal to those he cares for. I was sad to finish with this couple but I’m excited for whatever Vi Carter has planned next!.

Save Me by Vi Carter. Jared and Layla had me wrapped around their little finger, I was willing to go to any length to make sure these two damaged souls stayed together and continued to fight for one another against the odds. I was anticipating the continuation from Deceive Me but I was nowhere ready for it realizing now, that also means it ends. This story was so intriguing to me, I felt as though I was there as they navigated all the lies, secrets, and family drama as it unfolded. I found this story to be very enjoyable with a good mix of dark drama, intense scenes, strong characters, and told in dual POV. I would recommend to others I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What an emotional roller coaster ride. Layla and Jared two halves of the same soul. They complete one another, she is the light to his darkness. Layla is the only one who can soothe Jared. Their story is filled with twists and turns, secrets and lies and a whole lot of who can be trusted. This is one of those stories that completely sucks you in from the beginning and has you on the edge of your seat just wondering WTH is going to happen next. I love Jared and how protective he is of Layla and how their love runs through their blood so much so that they cannot stand to be away from one another for too long. This was a fantastic conclusion to this duet and I cannot wait to see what this author brings to us next.

OMG!! Wow. This is the second book from the duet, the books moved smoothly. Layla had been away for seven years from the town she once knew, she went back to school after the traumatic experience she went through. Jared is at school he is known to everybody as Jay, he has been training and doing comp boxing. Layla noticed Jared and called out but he made out he didn't know her in front of his friends, he is very protective when it comes to Layla any male that talks to her he gives a nasty look to them. There was so many emotions throughout this rollercoaster ride of a story, the ending took me for a spin I didn't see but brilliant at the same time.

This is the second book in a duet which started with Deceive Me which ended in a cliffhanger where Layla was shot...and the story picks up where she was transported to the hospital and placed in a coma because of blood loss. Jared was never far from her and when she finally woke up, he wanted to take her home with him for her safety...but now she remembers what happened along with who shot her...and as the reader delves into what is now happening with the couple, along with a unique twist in Jared's mother reappearing in his life, finding deceit, twists, turns, lies and intrigue make for a spectacular story...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Save Me picks right up where Deceive Me had ended, which was a doozy of a cliffhanger. Jared and Layla had a messy and complicated past and it's not at all surprising that their path forward was also messy and complicated. I love books that can surprise me, and there were definitely twists here that I didn't see coming. I did feel like we needed a bit more with the cast of secondary characters we had spent so much time with in Deceive Me, but made only small appearances in Save Me. However, I loved the intrigue and mystery in this story and everything about Jared and Layla and their relationship. Can't wait to read whatever Vi Carter has coming out next!

Excellent!!

Jared & Layla’s story was such a great read. Childhood friends/first love that were in foster care together and were ripped apart and separated for 7 years before reconnecting in college. They both had suffered so much abuse in their foster home and when they were separated they never forgot each other or stopped looking for the other. Jared is so protective, kinda obsessive over Layla, but I loved it!
I devoured this duet from the first page to the last in both books, I couldn’t put it down.

I'm giving book 2 a 4.8, and here is why...

There was so much more character growth in this book that i was aching for in book one, and I ended with satisfaction. I just know I shouldn't be worried about where the story would go and I just needed to trust Vi Carter and follow her into the darkness.

I was VERY surprised in Save Me because I felt like I maybe knew what was going to happen, but was taken back by the information that was reveled. My heart ached in this new information (no I don't give away spoilers) I wanted to rage even!

I enjoyed this push and pull, and the emotions this book made me feel. It checked all my boxes for a dark dark romance. The spice was good!

He's not the boy she knew seven years ago, he's matured, developed an attitude, and has been fostering a hate for her that has grown with each passing year. He despises her and what she did back then and he plans on getting his revenge- no matter what. And she is the clueless victim that has just fallen into his trap!

The pages of Save Me take us right back to the horrific place that Deceive Me left off, and it didn't take long for me to be completely wrapped up in the words all over again! These two are trying to find their way in life, mend what is broken between and within them, and maintain the expectations placed upon them. It's not an easy road for either of them, both carry many wounds that haunt them daily and leave them not willing to trust another soul. Secrets are being kept, deals are being made, lies are unfolding, and drama is at an all time high. With all that at play it will be darn near impossible for you to pull your eyes from the pages. It's a can't miss duet that will do a number on your heart!!! Highly recommend!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Save Me is part two of the Broken People Duet and must be read after Deceive Me. I struggled a bit with the first book, but it did have a cliffhanger that definitely made me want to come back and get the remainder of Layla and Jared's story. There was a lot of action and drama to keep the reader invested and the focus of the story was on Layla and Jared as they navigated their relationship in the aftermath of the major cliffhanger to book one. I think Jared and Layla were overall really good for each other and they loved each other fiercely. Jared was extremely protective of Layla, which sometimes came across as a little over the top, but was moreso a product of their childhood. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by book two. I found it far more engaging and interesting than book one and better written overall.

This was a good ending to this duet. It was obvious that Layla & Jared were meant for each other from the beginning. They definitely have a lot of trauma between them, as kids. I believe their trauma is what connected them and gave them each a safe place. I think Layla got lucky having Evelyn & Carl take her in and she was able to start the healing process. However, Jared hasn’t had a moment to start healing, and you can feel it building up in his behavior and his quick to trigger anxieties. I do love how possessive Jared was with Layla even if it was a little over the top.

I love a good romance with characters that have traumatic & scarred lives that can learn to cope and find that happy ever after. This book absolutely did that. The emotions that I went through reading this book was like a roller coaster. I absolutely enjoyed it and I’ll be checking out the backlist to read other books by Vi Carter.

Jared and Layla get real in the second half of this duet. Secrets are spilled and healing starts to take place. Layla is a bit too trusting in my opinion but we learn more about why she is willing to do anything for Jared. We learn more about what makes Jared tick in this book and why he has such a dark side. This was a great conclusion for these two. It is a fast paced, twists and turns story about two people who are healing together from a shared broken past.

What a fantastic ending to this duet! So much is uncovered in the second book of this duo, and the book concludes in a realistic and satisfying way with all the loose ends tied up. This duo is not for the faint of heart, as it deals with some very difficult trauma, and abusive situations, but I thought it was done really well.

I loved this duo and will definitely be reading more from Vi Carter in the future!

Oh boy the emotional journey this duet took me on was worth the ride. Layla and Jared have been to hell and back and found each other and went through another crazy journey together. This was a who can we really trust and who do we want to trust kind of story. Just when we thought we knew everything….there was more to share and more twists and turns to be revealed. I enjoyed this story, there was definitely a lot going on in this multi layered story. I loved the connection between Layla and Jared and the pull they had towards each other. They truly needed each other and I love How protective he was of her. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

WHAT AN EMOTIONAL BOOK!
Jared and Layla are back in this fantastic conclusion to the Broken People Duet and of course trouble isn't far behind. With them comes lots of lies, betrayals and deceit. Unfortunately poor Layla gets all caught up in such a mess and doesn't know fact from fiction and then there's Jared, he's at the center of the biggest lie of all.. This story has suspense, twists, turns and surprises at every corner and you can't help but fall into the rabbit hole yourself. It'll have you all tied up in knots and you'll feel every emotion there is. What a way to end this duet!

Again this is more a mystery than a romance. He's alive, survives being shot, she moves in with him. He finds out his mother hid him in the foster care system after his father killed himself and to avoid his uncle from obtaining custody of him. Uncle was waiting for nephew to reach 22 to make him sign over his wealth to Uncle. Also deceived him into thinking he was his father (they were identical twins). HEA

This was a let down, the suspense is anticlimactic and a complete dud
