    S. 1 Ep. 14 Christmas Mourning (A Horror Podcast) Holiday Special Event

    S. 1 Ep. 14 Christmas Mourning (A Horror Podcast) Holiday Special Event

The podcast has come full circle.

Almost a year ago, I began it by telling a story called "Coffins for Christmas" that has since become the most popular and shared episode of the season. That, along with all those that followed, have been downloaded thousands of times in over a dozen countries. To say I'm surprised at this success would be an understatement as the moment I put that holiday episode out into the world, I thought, "Who will want to hear the tales of my strange life?"

So as we move into season two, I thought it only fitting to end where it began, telling the story of Christmas in a way you have not experienced. In this one, we look into the past to the blood that began one of its most cherished traditions.

But this is not my story.

During my intermission episodes that answered listener questions, I would often go into my library for those answers. This collection I've built over the years has rare books and journals, many the only that exist, and contain facts, descriptions, and events of a most macabre and terrifying nature. The feed back was unmistakable, you've all enjoyed this glimpse into my private collection.

So that is where I dipped into once more for the topic of this episode, to read an account both terrifying and telling, I hope when you look at common decorations after listening, you see them in a different, and darker way.

    S. 1 EP. 13 It Came From a Corpse (A Horror Podcast)

    S. 1 EP. 13 It Came From a Corpse (A Horror Podcast)

One thing ends and another begins – but this is the space in between.

During the intermission between seasons I've been focused on answering listener requests in the form of bite sized episodes - though I couldn't help but stretch some even further.

In this full length (and then some) tale, I recall my one and only encounter with a strange creature called a Rivinia.

It is a story I barely lived to tell.

In all my travels and all my books, this creature has been a rumor. I've never seen so much as a detailed sketch of it, let alone a photo or video - and with almost the entire population of the world holding an HD camera at the ready for anything that might gain them views on social media, one has to question if it exists at all.

In this story, I will show you that it does and that its origin is stranger and more disturbing than anything you've ever imagined.

In a few weeks, I will announce the arrival of season two. I hope to go even deeper into the world you've never seen and tell you of the horrifying creatures and strange places I've seen. I will tell you blood curdling stories of my childhood and personal stories of my family. You are invited to go as deep as you dare into the recesses of my memories.

I hope that if you enjoy my stories, you will subscribe, rate, or leave a comment so that others might follow the same trail that has lead you to this podcast.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

Listener Episode 9: Cheeky Bones (A Horror Podcast)

Listener Episode 9: Cheeky Bones (A Horror Podcast)

One thing ends and another begins – but this is the space in between.

Before the new season of The Recalling begins, these bite sized episodes will live in the void, but they are much more. They are an index of creatures that surround us, monsters with no names, angels with no wings, the folklore that folklore forgot. Each short episode will introduce you to the things under your bed and in your closet.

What makes them even more special is that they feature the podcasts listeners themselves. Sailing on the raft of their curiosity, they’ve asked me to tell them what lurks in the shadows around them where they live.

If you’ve ever told yourself there’s nothing there, that you’re alone, that there’s nothing to be scared of, all while the hairs on the back of your neck beg to differ, then perhaps you should reach out to me and ask.

In this short (ish) episode, listener Tess asked me to discuss the darker parts of London's history. More succinctly, she was curious what parts of that past linger in the shadows of the modern city. The darkness in the corners of a city like London is thick with tragedy that remains unsettled and unknown - to pick just one story is a challenge.

However, I've settled on one that I have a long-time affinity for. To understand the present danger, I have to take you back to a past tragedy and the history that came even before that. Only then will you comprehend the life and death of Ardith, the Reclaimer.

If you’re new to the podcast, I encourage you to take a step back into the first season to learn more about me and my life.

In this short episode, listener and longtime supporter who you've might have heard of before, ThatBurntWriter, wanted to know if there was anything to know, or fear, about Iceland - which is also one of my favorite places in the world.

To answer her question I wanted to tell the story regarding the stark absence of trees there. Yes, there are some but the vast forests that once covered it have been done away with and while there are many theories why, I'd like to add one more - one that I have read about only sporadically as the branches of history are sometimes trimmed or cut off completely.

It is the story of giants, Vikings, and bravery in the face of horror. It is a connection between nations and the darkness we, as people, have always had to endure and overcome to carve out our place on this planet.

    S. 1 Ep. 12 A Kindness or a Curse (A Horror Podcast) Halloween Special Event

    S. 1 Ep. 12 A Kindness or a Curse (A Horror Podcast) Halloween Special Event

There are few things in our lives that don't have a story to tell. Common sayings, holidays, the names of our months and days, all evolved into what we know from something most of us have forgotten.

Luckily, through the efforts of historians and the miracle of the written record, we can look back over our collective existence to piece together the modern experience.

To celebrate the Halloween holiday, I want to do just that.

I want to give you a glimpse of how some things came to be as they are. Of course, any holiday is more complicated than one story, but this one, long forgotten, might just help you to appreciate how the tragedy of a single day long ago can still influences us each year.

    S. 1 Ep. 11 The Bloat (A Horror Podcast)

    S. 1 Ep. 11 The Bloat (A Horror Podcast)

While this space between the last season of The Recalling and the next has been set aside for short episodes, I couldn't resist telling you of something that just happened to me. So, I sat down, covered in dirt, blood, and fluids I'd rather not speak of, to bring you the events of last night.

When my work comes local, almost to my doorstep, there is a great sense of urgency to it. It feels as if I'm pushing the storm clouds back and fighting to preserve the one spot in the sun I can call my own. Just yesterday, as I was enjoying a rare day of leisure, those clouds amassed on a farm just a few miles from my home.

Something strange was happening in those fields. While the New England landscape is settling down to sleep for the winter, the grasses that stretched over the grazing fields here was vibrant and growing quickly. While that was strange enough, it was nothing compared to the fact that the cows that ate it were beginning to explode.

The night that followed led to the discovery of a creature I'd never seen but whose story I often think.

Happy Tiger Man ,

Another Dimension Is All Around You

I’ve never been a person who enjoys being frightened. But I do love a good story. There is an ecstasy to be found in Mr. Oak’s adventures. Life and Death. Beauty and Terror. Wisdom and Folly. These are the threads of indigo, silver and blood he weaves into a tapestry that tickles the imagination as it provokes the mind. The sensuous whisper as his work glides over your skin is like the shallowest cut tracing the path of the sharpest knife. These are fairy tales for people who appreciate color and flavor. People who do not run from the night, even if perhaps they should. My advice to you is to listen to this podcast. You might end up scared witless, but I guarantee you won’t be able to stop yourself from coming back for more. These are good stories. Enjoy them.

Strange and Interesting

I have followed Hanson Oak on social media for a while, and his short stories have always been interesting and weird (in a good way). This podcast is a terrific way to experience his work.
