JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two men for allegedly trafficking drugs at nightclubs and entertainment outlets here.

The suspects, aged 32 and 38, had been active in selling a variety of drugs since late December, police believe.

However, their illegal activity came to an abrupt end following a special operation in four separate locations around here between 5pm and 9pm on Tuesday (March 14).

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the two suspects were arrested with an assortment of drugs in their possession.

"We seized 21.2kg of syabu, 727g of ecstasy powder, 554g of ketamine, 110 ecstasy pills, 48 erimin 5 pills and 56.3g of magic mushroom.

"The total value of the drugs seized from the two suspects is more than RM849,000 and can be used by 111,888 addicts," he told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Friday (March 17).

He also said that in addition to the drugs, police seized two cars, a motorcycle, a wristwatch, RM1,730 in cash including S$114 (RM380).

Comm Kamarul Zaman added that the total value of the seized items including the drugs was more than RM1mil.

"We believed that the drugs came into the country from the Golden Triangle where the two suspects would repack the drugs for sale to patrons at nightclubs and entertainment centres.

"The suspects have been renting houses within gated and guarded residential areas to store the drugs before selling them on the local market," he added.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said further checks found the suspects have no criminal records, but one of them tested positive for drugs.

He added that both suspects would be remanded until Tuesday (March 21) to assist with the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
