Detectives are investigating after a man was fatally shot Monday evening in a Northwest Albuquerque neighborhood. Officer Daren DeAguero, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said officers responded around 5:15 p.m. to the 9000 block of South Sky NW, near Paseo Del Norte and Rainbow NW. “This was in reference to dispatch receiving a call in reference to an individual being shot,” DeAguero wrote in an email. “Officers arrived and discovered a lifeless male.” He said the incident is being investigated by the homicide unit. A man at the scene who identified himself as Gabriel Hernandez, the slain man’s father, told the Journal the shooting was sparked by an attempted theft. Hernandez said his two sons were framing a house when someone tried to steal their tools. He said they confronted the thieves and one of his sons was fatally shot. On Tuesday APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos did not provide an update on the case.
