COMMERCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A missing 15-year-old girl was reunited with her family after she was found by police in northwest Detroit.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said detectives were able to track down Laken Elezabeth Lewis on Saturday after she went missing from the Stratford Villa mobile home park on Aug. 18.

The sheriff's office said they acted on a tip they received early in day that revealed Lewis' whereabouts.

Sheriff’s Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit and the Fugitive Apprehension Team, with assistance from the Detroit Police Department, found the teen safe.

Officials said the girl was found among a group of people, but it is unknown how the teen knew them.

“We appreciate the feedback we received from the public and the hard work of our Detectives that located this missing young girl and recovered her safely in Detroit,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a press release.

The girl's family made the report after she left her home to go on an evening walk two weeks ago. She was expected to come back two hours later, but never returned.
