Sam Burgess’ big move nearing as he remains ‘keen’ on switch

Sam Burgess’ move into the England set-up is said to be nearing after head coach Shaun Wane revealed chats with Burgess as well as James Graham about potentially getting involved.

Burgess is currently Down Under coaching local Bush side Orara Valley Axemen and has been linked with a move back into coaching with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

However, with the Rugby League World Cup at the end of the 2022, Burgess could well lend a hand to Wane.

“I’ve not made any decisions yet but, if we can get somebody of the calibre of Sam and James when it comes to the World Cup, it will be of great benefit to us,” Wane said at Wigan’s media day.

“Both are very keen but it depends on what works for us and what works for them. I won’t do it unless it helps us win the World Cup.

They are good leaders but the fundamental thing is they’ve never won a World Cup – they’ve won everything else.

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs prop had been given the green light by NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo to discuss his ‘situation’ regarding going into coaching in the NRL.

That situation concerns Burgess’ standing down from coaching at the Rabbitohs when allegations were levelled at the rampaging forward concerning his lifestyle.

A police investigation left the 32-year-old with no case to answer, but the NRL investigation is still taking place and will only be solved once police provide them with the information in the case.
