Today morning, I wore Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme, my favorite fragrance for extremely hot and sunny days.
It never fails to uplift my mood whenever I feel exhausted because of extreme sunny heat. However, today's weather was a bit different, bit rainy, cloudy, a bit less heat, and a wet, humid feeling in the air.
In this climate, I noticed a particular characteristic of this perfume that doesn't usually show in a hot, dry climate, Fishyness. Interestingly, I found that many other users have also observed this characteristic.
The middle note wasn't particularly fishy like actual fish or seaweed; rather, it reminded me more of a wet, damp, stale swamp pond covered with green algae.
This characteristic resembles that kind of smell, as far as I can recall. However, it's important to note that this character is masked by the aromatic, deep marine aquatic accord of the perfume.
Dont get me wrong, I still love this smell and would wear it any day, that's how much I love this timeless classic marine scent.
I just noticed this additional dimension of its personality today. Interestingly, this note is not noticeable in dry, hot, sunny climates.
It maybe some DPG thing Bvlgari can fix and I request the brand please dont discontinue it, reformulate it or weaken this masterpiece

NappoBappo

smells like refreshing, aquatic seaweed. It's very strong and everyone around you will smell it. Great longevity

jainrahul3218

Smells awesome but very poor longevity, avoid

ift3k

I could literally bathe in this. I want to eat that juice. So fresh and elegant, it instantly reminds me of clean sea water, sea salt, and the smell of half-rotten seaweed in a breeze. This fragrance is a work of art. Longevity is extremely poor.

jlog23

I wish it were a little more citric and aromatic. That would’ve really elevated this fragrance and made it pop. It’s still nice don’t get me wrong, just doesn’t have that WOW factor when you first spray it on like other summer frags do. I can sense the lavender and get this pillowy affect from the cotton flower. I’ll use this casually lounging around the house

J.Gilmore

Nothing performs in the summertime better than this fragrance, hands down the most underated juice I've ever came across. It came out so long ago and got overlooked somehow, good for me I guess?
This fragrance at this point in my life has garnered more compliments than any other fragrance I own, they always say you smell sooo damn good! My second most complimented fragrance by woman were chanel allure and Bleu, or lastly the ADG line, but don't get it twisted this fragrance is far from that.

My nose tells me it's a very dark but light, very bitter/salty but fresh. A Dark Citrus orange lime twist but with SALT if I could describe it best.... It's masculine too, unlike a lot of these newer fragrances that make us men smell like push overs! Haha
Their is nooo b**tch assness in this juice! It's a mans fragrance but not at all beastly, barbaric or overpowering.

⚠️ It works for me because I live in a rather hot and humid climate all year around the lows out here get to maybe 30° degrees fahrenheit for about a couple weeks a year then back up to the 90°-100's during the spring, summer and sometimes fall.

ydenizk

it gives me frutiger aero vibes

When you smell it, you will feel like you are at the seaside. A great perfume for the summer months. I smell it all the time when I want to feel good. The strong citrus scent refreshes you at the opening. It is indescribably fresh and felt. As time goes by, the moss in the base notes gains weight and the scent of the sea surrounds you.

Some scents make you feel charismatic, this is not one of them. This is a sea scent that gives you complete peace of mind. A very good choice to feel the transition between notes. Each note greets you when its time comes. Smell your shirt after 24 hours. You will be surprised by the effect of the heavier seaweed, sea and salt scent, away from citrus.

If we could breathe and smell when diving into the sea, this would probably be the smell we would hear.

The bottle design gives you the impression that you have a jewel. As I shake the perfume in the bottle, which resembles a drop of water, like a snow globe, I am hypnotized by the way it moves like a sea wave.

tomerai

A very relaxing scent with a delicious opening.

Moyashi04

Okaay. This is my honest and personal opinion.
I sprayed this just today and my first impression was "This is good but familiar". I felt like I smelled this on other people before, not too much, not like Dior Sauvage or anything but I was familiar with the smell. After a few minutes, I felt kind of suffocated. Here's the exact scenario I felt. It is a special evening, you call a cab with your family, you all cram into the back seat. You can smell the ciggarets that are permeated to the seats and also everyone else's perfume. That suffocation with all the perfumes and ciggarets. This is what it reminded me of.
I mean, is it bad, no, deffinetly not. But because of this reminder for me, I just can't like this fragrance. Would I recommend it? Yes of course. Give this a try, it is overall a good and balanced fragrance for hotter weather

TheodoreMnts

I remember the first time I smelled this, I was blown away with the citrus florals and seaweed note. This has always been on my mind and I guess it’s a sign to buy myself a 100ml of it one day. Just waiting for a good deal for it. Also thinking how it remedy the fact it doesn’t have a stand

Hugo Montez

Great classic fresh citric-marine scent. Better than Marine flanker. Amara being my favorite but since it's discontinued and my bottle is getting very low, I'll buy a bottle of this. This is kinda light blue / versace man eau fraiche.

Samurai23

Probably THE best aquatic/marine summer scent for men. A classic.

OTA Mom

Strongly aquatic with no fishy aspect. Dark blue is a good way to describe it. I do get a bit of soft floral in the heart and it works here.

Kevinb95

The smell was a nice water smell, but the fragrance was gone almost instantly. Very disappointing.

JoshSmells

One of the better aquatics out there. Not super realistic but has that ocean air vibe. Very pleasant, fresh, with some spices that darken it a bit. Whoever said this smells fishy is imagining things, it's pretty mass appealing. Great longevity and moderate projection.

reppon97

Opens up with citruses, then dries down to seaweed.

Doesn't smell like ordinary blue fragrance. This is more like dark blue and more mature version of standard blues. A little bit outdated smell in 2023 imo.

DichterundDenker

I actually don't like aquatic animals. This scent is the only one I appreciate. Now a classic and in contrast to many other sea fragrances, it smells somewhat authentic. I live on the North Sea and can only judge this for this sea.

j.andresminor

Imagine your cat "farting" right on your face, that's what lasts, 1 minute of longevity, really really trust me, i had 50 scents this is the worst of the worst, neither an eau of water, it lasts like water, 0 longevity, atrocious!!!

Figi

I wear this fragrance for a long time and I can say that it is nice, fresh, aquatic and masculine fragrance BUT nothing mind blowing. Everyone who likes aquatic scents can buy on blind buy.

Price is ok, longetivity about 6h, projection max. 2h. Doesn't smell synthetic in openig and it's not toxic for people around. It's well balanced fragrance.

Deyon84

This reminds me of Nautica Voyage. It’s not horrible , but it’s beyond my taste. At one time ( younger years ) I may have enjoyed this , but the aquatic “body wash” type smell is no longer what I’m after. If you’re on an average budget go for. It’s not going to be bad as a blind buy if you know your way around different scents. Just don’t expect anything more than your average day wear. Sillage and longevity were on the low end of my expectation. Better suited for someone under 30.

Odor Aeternitatis

You may not remember but this fragrance was very hyped when it was launched back in 2005 and for many years after. Any handsome dude had one bottle of this and oversprayed to make impressions on girls around him :)

Overall very nice scent with a very uplifting and refreshing top note. The perfumer of this work is a great master perfumer behind some of the most famous fragrances.

6.5/10

macdan

This was a blind buy. Fresh, clean scent, resembles Adidas sport shower gel :) After couple of hours on me it becomes a skin scent, I can barely smell it (maybe it is fake, series no. 00N28DA1). Nice scent, but would not re-purchase again.

Lukasssss

I expected more from this fragrance. I thought it was going to have more marine notes, but all I got was shower gel with a tame hint of something slightly marine. IMO, Dylan Blue is much more interesting with a similar scent profile. Even though I was a little disappointed because of my expectations I have to say that it is a very pleasant scent. 5/10.

istvan.buda.779

Nice summer scent

SUpa_present

I love Aqva Pour Homme. It's perfect for a summer day or a trip to the beach. Light and fresh from the projection, smells more strong on the skin with the wood base.

tpg

Fresh, I don't smell any seaweed in it though. A very good one.

Biglou88

This was my signature scent all year round from the age of about 18-25. Absolutely gorgeous but the recent stuff has gone to the dogs I’m afraid! Performance and projection is shit. Massive shame this one has been killed off from what it was

Mr. nose it all

So, how do we stop these companies from reformulating and discontinuing our favorite fragrances? Boycott the discontinued/ left overs of reformulations or the whole house since others from the house are bound to be too, or pay 10xs the price for the left overs.. why pay more for a fragrance that you cant create memories to hold onto with or introduce to our little ones? I will no longer buy a discontinued left over or a “vintage” original of reformulation again. Support the cause, don't be the problem because after all they will ultimately end and it would be a waste of time and money.. and if you continue to support their schemes then expect many more of your favorite fragrances to fall. I cant even trust the brands or houses doing it unless it was a regulation cause which also sucks.

LeSmeller

The most aquatic of all the aquatic fragrances (that I tried), it conjures an image of green water, so the bottle is 100% consistent with the smell. The distinctive twist of the scent is it smells like machinery - oil, gasoline, or something like that. The vibe is an oil rig, or "we're on an old boat, can you smell the engine". If someone were not kindly disposed towards this perfume, they could describe it as "I was swimming and the water got into my nose", it has a bit of that suffocating quality. All in all, there are better aquatic smells, there are better gasoline smells, and this combo doesn't quite do the trick for me.

I had this as a present one time many years ago and found that Bvlgari Aqva was never something I wanted to wear consistently. Perhaps I was immature or not knowledgeable enough about fragrances to appreciate it enough but at the time I just remember that pebble design being so annoying.

I will most definitely give this brand another go.

kelvin tan

My Perry Ellis 360 red latest batch doesn't smell like acqua di gio instead smell like Bvlgari AQVA Pour Homme. I've got the vintage Perry Ellis to compare side by side with the new one i got it last week they don't smell the same. Hope someone can share their experience on their latest batch Perry 360 Red , did they smell like Bvlgari AQVA Pour Homme?

Pavlos St

Average longevity and sillage. A mass appealing aquatic and citrus scent which I dare to mention is similar with Aqua amara with the exclusion of orange. If you are a fanatic of aquatic scents it is most preferable to purchase instead the Aqua atlantique or if it is doable the Aqua amara.

Fragriminator

I received two fat sprays to the forearm at my neighborhood discounter. Náutica/ Coolwater vibe straightaway, but that lasted for me only a few minutes. I’m surprised ambergris isn’t listed as a note. To my nose it’s quite heavy in the mid. I get a clean yet greasy Mediterranean oil rig vibe. I’m sure that makes no sense. Or high-end coastal Porsche repair shop. The ambergris vibe mellowed after the first hour and I noticed a more round sweetness, maybe owed to the patchouli/ amber. I’m not sure I’d purchase this because I do feel it would put off some innocent bystanders, but I definitely understand this fragrance and think it’s well-made.

scentaddicted

I wear this on vacation by the sea or to make me feel like I'm on vacation by the sea. I've had this bottle for 10 years, but am nearing the end. I haven't smelled it recently but I hope that it is close to this good. One of my favs.

12312312

Let me tell you something about Bvlgari AQVA pour homme—it's straight-up awesome! This scent is all about that refreshing, deep aquatic freshness that hits you like a wave. It's like diving into a crystal-clear ocean and coming out smelling like pure awesomeness.
The aromatic nature of this fragrance is off the charts. It's got this captivating blend of notes that make you feel like you're in a lush, tropical paradise. The subtle hints of citrus and herbal goodness take you on a journey that you won't want to end.
I gotta admit, I'm hooked on this stuff. Every time I wear Bvlgari AQVA pour homme, I can't help but keep sniffing myself because it's that good. It's like an addiction, but in the best way possible.

Best possible alternative for coolwater, Issey Miyaki pour homme or even Acqa Di Gio

scentaddicted

Such a great summer scent. Appropriate for day or night. It doesn't overpower but has presence enough to be noticed. Probably my go-to aquatic scent. The citrus opening is what you expect. I like the seaweed/salty heart before it settles into the woodsy/sage finish. I don't get a lot of amber as described in the notes. It is a more intimate scent for sure.

This has been my signature scent for over 10 years now. This was my first ever fragrance I purchased back in high school, the second I smelt this fragrance I was hooked!

When I think of summer and oceanic fragrances this is what I think of, it's bright and citrusy in the opening and dries down into a beautiful woody scent. For me on my skin this projects loudly and lasts all day.

I've bought many fragrances since this one but I always return to this fragrance, I have so many great memories wearing this fragrance and every time I spray it I get waves and waves of nostalgia.
n my eyes this fragrance is a masterpiece and I'm sad to see it's no longer available on Bvlgari's site and is getting harder and harder to find in stores. I've bought well over 10 bottles of this over the years, I might just stock up for the future as this becomes harder and harder to find.

I can't wait for summer to come back around so I can wear this all day everyday.

Now this is my kind of cologne
This is like BVLGARI Atlantique but without ambery sweet notes, which I genuinely think doesn't go well together
An aquatic fragrance needs to be aquatic. Nothing ambery, nothing sweet, just stick with the core concept.
"Water"

Ironically aquatic fragrances should be the representative icon of a cologne because the cologne itself is some kind of "water" (ethanol heavy mostly, but still...)

and I think Bvlgari nailed it
This is very safe ocean fragrances
I hardly caught any seaweed rancidity at all which is good
It's generic, but generic is there with reasons, why? because somebody back in d days loved to wear
and it got popular anyhow

Generic smells coexist with it's popularity, if not, it wouldn't even have tagged "generic" at all
That is the reason why I love inoffensive cologne. I can just wear it ANYWHERE ANYTIME
even if somebody say it "generic"
Not to necessarily please the others, but please my self!

I finished my second bottle and unless Chinese fake perfumeries play a dirty role in the market,
I am going to buy the 3rd one. This is my no.1 fav summer cologne of all time. SO GOODA

AuthenticAF

I thought i reviewed this but it isnt here. I bought this as a christmas present for my sons. My older son has been putting this into his daily rotation, it has become one of his faves. He never said anything about seaweed, and i havent smelled it either!

This thing lasts on my clothes for weeks

jwc001

An early summer-like evening… Warm enough and bright enough for me to try out Aqva for the first time this year. It’s bright and calming and hopeful. Just what I needed.

Danziger

I love this smell but why is it so poor longevity... it's unacceptable.. I remember this smell as really strong and long lasting and now... just a memory. The best aquatic gem.
Great fragrance composition. Maybe I can improve longevity and performance with Molecule 01.
I'll try

sgd11

Bvlgari absolutely NEUTERED this gem with the new style box. The performance is abysmal and lasts 2 hours MAX. What a shame.

BananaXango

I enjoyed this for the first hour. There's a vibrant freshness with warm sea air notes. Then the seaweed kicks in and suddenly it's low tide at the pier with the old fishermen. It gets old pretty fast, especially if you've ever lived on a beach. This one made me pass on the whole line and pretty much anything claiming it has seaweed in it.

AGToth

Have all perfumes been watered down these days?!!

pedroquadros

that’s the scent they give you in Emirates flights, I have 3 samples of 7,5 ml and it is personally not my style, generic blue scent with a twist of seaweed but not interesting at all, performance is ok… is a fragrance that you can wear all the time and so but there are much more interesting blue scents than this one

Mystères du Château de Dé

This came in a rarely seen 150ml bottles. A Swiss local discount department store was selling them for around 55 bucks, and I had a coupon for 10 bucks off! All the other sizes are long gone from fragrance chains but I see Notino still has some. It must be discontinued or about to be. Marine as well, and I see bottles of that discounted here here and there. I love both versions, with advantage to Marine, which is unusual, if not a better fragrance.

I'll be surprised if this goes, being one of "the classic" aquatics, IMO. I figured it would hang around for decades like Cool Water. But 20 years is a good run.

Evan Massey88

The absolute best aquatic line in the industry and this (the original) is the pinnacle. It’s a shame you can’t get this cheap anymore. I have been wearing this scent for over 12 years, and it’s still so good. Bvlgari needs to bring this back into production before I run out of my 10 year old bottle I’ve been trying to save!
Scent 9.5/10
Longevity 8/10
Sillage 9/10

dayonee

The first Aqva I tried was the Marine but the opening was a bit too floral for me. Now this one is just right. The initial citrus opening is a bit like Polo Deep Blue Parfum to my nose, that "unripe" green mango note, but a bit sweeter, just what I hoped Polo DBP would be. That with the salty vibe just works. Not your typical aquatic blue. Classic for a reason.

FlirtBoy

nice, safe, fresh, citrusy with aquatic/seaweed notes...bought it some 15 yrs ago for half the price it costs now, ridiculously overpriced since cca 2020...

Areg

I absolutely love this fragrance, it smell very fresh and oceanic and you don't get that synthetic smell like d&b light blue has. Just amazing easely in my top 10.

Invasionbg

It's missing from the Bvlgari's website. Shall I consider eventual discontinuation?

Though, the Aqva atlantic is on their website and everyone was saying that they discontinued it.
So what is really going on? 😄

Bubbles1964

Wow. I really like this salty, fresh, marine scent—works on a woman’s skin too. Full of synthetics, but lots of fun. I want to test this in warmer weather.

123review

A darker freshy. Smells as if you left the ocean to dry off and smelled your skin with that bitter oceany smell. Very original but performance lacking.

miskam

My most used and complimented fragrance, it has been my signature for many years even before getting more into the deep end of fragrances. And i still like it.
Fresh, aquatic, a bit salty but has a body behind the super fresh opening full of orange and some other citruses that i don't even try to name.
Sillage must be decent because people notice it, longevity is ok but it's a freshie so no beast mode here of course.

If Versace pour homme/Missoni Wave is too floral and sweet for you this is the more adult salty version of them.
I do love the Versace pour homme/Missoni Wave dna, it's the scent of being on a lake on a hot summer day, Aqva pour homme is being on a beach at the sea and stumbling for some light green plants on you way back to the hotel.
A versatile freshie that can survive even on the cool days.

d2blepeace

Lovely scent that can be used almost any time of the year. Love this DNA of Aqva from Bvlgari.
I actually found this one sitting at the back of my parents' closet since they don't like this one. The scent is fresh, gentle and definitely unisex. I am not the type of person who would spend my summer vacation at some beaches but this is how I imagine myself would smell like while swimming.
I use this one as after-shower and after-haircut fragrance and it works beautifully. A kind of scent that can lift the mood no matter what season of the year is.
8/10

spartaksci

To this day, still the best of the Aqva line. The OG. Too bad they discontinued it. Grab a bottle while its still available. Fresh, invigorating and it does set itself apart from the traditional aquatic fragrances, specially the contemporary "flavor" of aquatics. This one is a gem not only for the summer, but during the colder months it does some magic too.
Also the performance is pretty good considering its a Bvlgari fragrance: most of them have meh performance but this one holds to your skin for a decent time and outperforms a great deal of other freshies.

Let_it_be

Bvlgari is a sexy aquatic fragrance. It smells like mango, if you are wondering for a blind buy.

There's something very alluring about it that sets it apart from other aquas. It smells exciting and inspiring, there's a luxurious sentiment within the casualness that it projects. Don't wear the Aqua di Gio uniform, use this instead.

lakkiirfan

Give a try in cooler days in closed environment, you will start loving it differently.

clintjr82

Nothing short of Awesome. Compliments all the time. Very Masculine. To say this is a designer scent, when I walked in Saks Avenue to check out some Guerlain and Tom Ford Fragrances, the sales woman said never mind those scents, what is that amazing scent you have on. I told her and she's now getting it for her husband:). So there you have it. The top marine scent for a reason. Try it or buy it.

ooo_that_smell

Daddy of salty aquatics, guy below me has issues.

Pair this with Bleu de Chanel edp to smell like a God.

opusxpn

This is not a traditional aquatic, it is kind of different. It does smell like the sea in a way. The seaweed note it is there and citrus, later you get some woods. It is more formal than casual to me. Not everyone will like this scent specially people who might get a body odor locker room scent. I do like it because it’s different but I will be more careful where I wear it. The longevity it is good I get 8hrs and projection is moderate arm’s length great for a summer scent. It’s not a cool water or ADG type of scent. It is not too mainstream but I many that want something a little different will appreciate this scent. 7/10

ZacGotSprayed

My Greek teacher used to wear this and so one day during our casual talks, I asked him what it was. The same day I bought it with my birthday money. Best purchase I ever made, love you Mr Longinitis, please come back. :(

Really not my cup of tea, can only find the seaweed and citrus rind scent. Has some sweat like aromas. A fragrance for an old man who is stuck in nostalgia.

AuthenticAF

I bought this for my son in high school. I think he will love it, when we get it i will review! I did get it at macys sale i thought the price was reasonable, even if this isnt the right season for it. I also got aqua di gio absolu for him at same sale. I cant imagine either would be a pass.
Update:
This is great! Def a spring summer freshie but a love! He loves it and i am happy:)

Miamicole305

Macys having a great sale on this 5.1oz for $56

eva.daisy.88

I have a general preference for citrus fragrances. So this perfume makes my knees weak. When I smell this on a guy, the immediate reaction my brain gets is “hold me in your arms, take me to the beach and let’s get naked”
Yeah 😀
In more descriptive terms, it opens with a mixture of salty aquatic and sweeter citrus (orange) notes. As it develops, I can detect also a bit of wooden notes and lavender here and there.
Just the performance is very average - somewhat around 3 hours on my skin.

Adjr1087

One of my favorite perfumes to smell on a man... the only thing is this was my ex's signature fragrance, he would only wear this, so I can't help but associate this perfume with him and for that reason I just can't buy it for my actual partner. But let me tell you, my ex would get stopped ALL THE TIME and asked what he was wearing. I've never seen anybody get complimented as much as he used to with this fragrance. It was CRAZY. Perhaps this reallyyy smells that great, or this fragrance was doing some sort of hypnotic reaction with his skin and it was just too perfect.

Itiskimia

This smells heavenly omg! Citrus done right.
One of the best freshies out there. My absolute favorite scent on men

DBlack47

I really have enjoyed this older-school fragrance since I wore it in my early 20s. Bvlgari Aqva (BA) is a “beach” fragrance that starts out with mandarin orange, water/sea notes and moves on to a beautiful salty seaweed vibe that takes you straight to the beach. In the late dry down I get mild woody notes and clary sage, minimal patchouli.

A great summer fragrance that has average longevity (4-6 hours on my skin) that shortly becomes a skin scent. Projection is average and silage is actually pretty great! Well-priced and definitely a safe blind-buy. Rating 3.75/5

Afc_Croatian

Bulgari Aqua is fresh, interesting and inviting. It starts off with a very smart mandarin note which peppers off into the seaweed, giving it that immediate "beach" vibe to it, just beautiful.
You can definitely tell this is an older release of a fragrance but that is sometimes a good thing. Older fragrances have a level of character to them that I find to be very pleasing.
If you can find this for under $60, then it is definitely worth the purchase.
As for the "comparison" category, this definitely does not smell like Acqua Di Gio.

I've been using this edt fragrance for 15 years! I have also tried the marine version (which I red was discontinued) every now and then but always returned to this, the og Aqva pour Homme. Living in Greece where the summers are hot and humid my only complain is the longevity. This is serious though to the point of thinking to stop buying it! It only lasts a couple of hours. Then in order to be noted someone has to be really close to you. It is too unique and addictive though and every time i try something else I always end up buying it again and again. It is one of the best Spring - Summer aquatic fragrances ever, if not the best!! I just hope that they improve and strengthen their formula as far as longevity. 9/10 (only because of longevity). Marine should be kept on the line as well

Bvlgari Aqva pour Homme - is an aromatic aquatic fragrance. The scent is deep, with oceanic notes and notes of spray.

A simple (in the good sense) acquatic that I really love.

cneal90

This is one of my favorite warm weather fragrances. It is a citrusy/salty/aquatic. I believe the saltiness comes through from the seaweed note, but in my opinion comes across very different in comparison to other fragrances I have with the seaweed note. It isnt identical at all but I closely associate Bvlgari Aqva to the same class as Acqua Di Gio and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. To me, this is a great dumb reach/daily wear fragrance that has some versatility to it. The performance is middle of the road and sometimes I will reapply mid way through the day, but that is okay with me considering at this point in time Bvlgari Aqva doesnt cost me an arm and a leg. Unfortunately, it appears Bvlgari is axing the Aqva line and the price is starting to increase in response to that.

This is my best summer fragrance. It’s fresh and interesting. Quite intense for aquatic scents and on the sweeter side. I’m trying to find a new fragrance that would be better than this from cheap brands to the ridiculously overpriced and nothing says it better than Aqva pour homme
Every year I’m complemented on it by men and women.
Bottle is nice too which is something I pay attention to.
A must have for every connoisseur!

Got a small test sampler after reading all the high praise, my short review of the smell:

Initial spray: Smells fresh and green mixed in with prominent citrus notes, like orange. There is an ever so slight pepper and salty flavor to it as well. To me smells pretty darn close to chanel bleu.

10 minutes later: MUCH more salty and smelling of sea. The citrus is pretty much gone and replaced with floral and seaweed notes.

Mellow down: I can't really put a finger on the notes except say that it smells like a deep, calm, dark ocean at the cusp of a storm. The saltiness of the sea has mellowed down into something robust that stayed with a prominent smell on me for hours.

This is the first time i've smelled this fragrance AFAIK but it invokes a memory of a pretty joyous tie period of my life, and for the life of me I can't help but be constantly reminded of Bois Moracain by Tom Ford for some reason, every time I take a whiff of the base notes.

Amazing smell. Will definitely purchase a bottle down the line.

I picked this up for about $56 at Macy's for the 5 oz bottle which was great. I like it and will start using it daily in this hot weather. I like it but not enough to rebuy it. I'm not a huge fan of the seaweed note because it gives it a stinky vibe but idk I might enjoy it more with use.

Best salty marine I found in the spring of 2022. Aqva is not just another blue, it's the ocean in all its glory. Seaweed, sweet and salt on the skin, rich, sexy, stanky, yet alluring. Like the couple kissing passionately on the beach while the waves crash on them in From Here to Eternity. Wonderful creation bordering on niche perfumery, yet still pleasant.

Sad thing is, it doesn't last more than a couple of hours. Maybe the last batches were reformulated.

This is a bit richer than Aqva Marine. A bit stronger, sweeter and deeper. This is "night by the ocean", while Marine is "day at the beach".

Invasionbg

If they discontinue this one, I will give up on this hobby of mine ✌️

TT_Joker4

A delicious summer fragrance. A little acqua di gio and a little dolce gabbana light blue is felt. Unlike common fresh perfumes, a more sedentary fragrance suitable for summer nights. I recommend it to gentlemen who live young

Novocaine

Agua dulce... agua salá. When the sea breeze blown away by the storm meets the foamy water over the fine sand of the beach.

Bvlgari Aqua, for me remains one of the most beautiful, deep and aromatic fresh men's perfumes. It smells like a storm, fresh air, it induces a state of reflection, as if you were standing on a rock with your hands resting on your head and your eyes lost on the horizon. Bvlgari water is an amalgam of emotions. A meeting of rain with salt water from the sea. The notes of petit grain, seaweed, cedar and sage are to blame for this sensation. They simulate so well the clean, slightly saline air pushed to shore when a storm is approaching. Citrus fruits do nothing but push the green-aquatic scent to the surface. It doesn't smell very fruity or like a cocktail served on a terrace. It is a fresh fragrance, slightly dark and very fragrant. Amber rounds off the edges of the plant while giving it a solid base.

For a perfume of this type, the performances are excellent. It persists on the skin for up to 8 hours and the sting is the one that stands out. You feel like in a wet cloud of rain, passers-by can feel the aroma from a few meters away, especially if you are helped a little by the wind outside. Bvlgari Aqua pour Homme is a gift that the sea gives us all. It is like a floating bottle drifting on the sea that does not contain a letter but the very essence of the water.

YjiX3MR

Designer aquatic. Very wearable sea with a bit of soap. I like this one, too bad it lasts 2h.

Bigmike650

Nice summertime aquatic fragrance👌🏽 I wish it lasted longer on my skin but it’s a very pleasant fresh fragrance 👍🏽

@ScentedBee indeed, bvlgari aqva doesn't have that nauseating something and overall is i think much better, more versatile and, well, normal, if it makes any sense. how do i know? i was on a vaccation trip to a small town in northern italy as dolce light blue intense was released. i had to try it myself on a hot summer evening and, well, it was a scrubber for me. i know it's all about olfactory and subjective feelings, but it felt like the light blue intense made the outer temperature and humidity even worse for me. nothing refreshing except for the first 2-3 minutes maybe. in fact, i went to a shower, then applied vibrant leather cologne by zara and the evening went great.

Wild Water

So many perfumes of the 90's promised an oceanic smell, yet so few delivered. Aqva was the first I remember that gave me what I really wanted. It's an evolution from Cavallier's previous work on Acqua di Gio which many compare it to, but fixes every problem I have with that fragrance. Make no mistake, these may both call to mind the sea but they couldn't be further from each other in execution.

Aqva opens with a stank which soon finds its footing as sharp and salty mandarins. Not just the fruit but orange leaf and blossom as well. After a few minutes it dries into a classic masculine approach with lavender and clary sage and something of a leathery accord. We'll call it patchouli. Not sure how to articulate it other than salt water soaked and algae laden woods. Old things washed up on the shore.

There's a slightly rotten accord to everything, and I mean that in the best way. The fruits are overripe, the florals are starting to turn brown, the seaweed covered woods have been carved out by ocean waves and baked to perfection in the sun. It doesn't reek like the actual ocean does with rotten fish or dead birds or whathaveyou. It's an impression that brings the dankness of the seashore to mind in an artistic way. The far drydown brings out a sort of tobacco accord, not dissimilar to the one you'd find in Cool Water's drydown. There are hints of it through the heart too. The lavender and patchouli persist for the lifetime of the wear and the woods help to round it out.

To me, this is a masterpiece. Even those who wouldn't slap that label on it would agree that it's a skillfully made perfume, I would think. If this scent brings to mind little more than "generic aquatic" or "AdG clone" or "gym bro", what even is the point of perfumery anymore? Bvlgari Aqva is much deeper than all that.

Etheras

Fresh nice citrus/green parfume that is best for summer. Its a very clean a perfomes really well, leabing towards generic parfumes as it does not have something very distinctive. Overall a nice decent and wanted for your collection.

vrapjr123

It's good. Smells similar to Paco Rabbane Ultraviolet on the drydown. Because of that amber note. Overall, refreshing cologne

Mountain_Man

Agreed with what I just read from clintjr82, this is aquatic done right! I’d also like to see an EDP in this. Not a departure from the scent itself, but just a higher concentration of all of that ocean-y goodness. And no pun intended; this is an aqua scent. Not a blue. But a straight up aqua. Clean, fresh, masculine, and different.

clintjr82

Awesome classic. The cream of the crop when it comes to an aqvatic done right, masterfully. The perfumers need to release a parfum or eau de parfum version soon. Every gender and age bracket loves this, along with my Sailing day Maison Margiela. Bvlgari Aqva is very masculine, how man should smell out at sea or just in the summertime in general.

Dark Owl

I owned this in 2008/09 before I was properly into fragrances and had just a couple of bottles. At the time I found this quite challenging, it was pretty strong with a unique orange & sea water vibe. I liked it but much preferred the 2008 Dior Homme Sport (masterpiece) at the time, so my ex took the Aqva for herself!

Fast forward to a couple of years ago, I ordered blindly a new bottle, figuring that I'd love it's unique vibe as I've become more familiar with fragrances. Well what a disappointment, it might sound cliché but I feel it's been horribly reformulated. I also tested a bottle in a store afterwards and it was the same. Watery for sure and I suppose kind of refreshing but so weak as if all the force and unique character had been drained. In fact rather than the sea it reminded me of the smell of a drained lake or pond, an underlying algae/fishy/eggy smell though not as bad as in the Aqva Amara flanker. Awesome bottles in this line, I wish I'd liked it but had to re-sell as I don't want a big collection.

@ScentedBee - This doesn't smell like Cool Water at all to me, definitely closer in character to the D&G Light Blue family, they also have that slight eggy vibe to me as does Acqua di Gio, maybe they share a certain ingredient.

3NO7

Very nice for kickin around the house or just hanging out. Cleanish aquatic relaxing scent.

I gave it a like but nearing a love.

Nothing crazy just nice and easygoing.

Archaic

i bought myself a 2021 batch on a whim. kinda a bit sad coz it's no longer the same as my 2008 batch.

the 2021 version seems to be a toned down version compared to 2008 version. i think the 2021 version is 80% close to the 2008 version. the 2021 version still gives you the citrus opening, the seaweed middle note and the powdery amber base note but the saltiness “aura” is nowhere to be found. the sillage & longevity is slashed by half compared to the 2008 version.

i think the 2021 version is still ok on its own but it’s a pale shadow of its former self.

Gorilla

Fantastic spring and summer scent. This line has been my go to since 2004.

JimmyMisfit

Tried this from a decant. The citrus opening seemed very brief. The fragrance quickly turns into what I would call a lush "green aquatic" (the color I got was a dark green) with predominating aromatic, slightly sweet notes with marine notes underneath. The "green-ness" maintains to a degree, but as it dries down you'll notice the lavender and patchouli more. Not the strongest fragrance after the opening, so to be noticed you might need more than a little. Unique enough that I can't think of anything to compare it to. There was a brief slightly dirty phase, but overall if you like somewhat fresh, slightly sweet green aromatics, I'd suggest sampling this.

HusaynMir

Very nice and mature summer fragrance. Opening isn't very good but smells amazing after 1-2Hrs on skin. Would definitely recommend testing this for a day before buying. Extremely unique and timeless scent.

MAKSTR

No nonsense great smelling summer freshie. Lasts for about 4 hours on my skin.
Slows down to skin scent after 2 hrs. Like the notes overall and that there is no vetiver and oakmoss but clary sage and patchouli create a gentle balanced base with citrus and woody notes on top and the subtle damp feeling note might be the seaweed. Good overall.

Unique. This scent reminded me of middle of an ocean. Darkest in the bvlgari aqva line IMO.

I have to say that this one is not easy to wear, in my case it wasn't love at first smell.

This stands out during the summer or in very hot days.

It match perfectly to use on the deep ocean on a yatch. Is very fresh and elegant.

This has a love/hate opening depending your nose because the seaweed is very strong and can cause headaches. But the delicious parts comes at the dry down.

I buy it for the beach, but also works well in the cities for very hot days.

Maybe is not a crowd pleasant but is very special and unic smell. I simply love it.

HEATHEN PERFUMES

Aqva Pour Homme - the depths of the ocean.

Aqua has an impenetrable, dark, oceanic depth, in which we feel the marine flora in the form of ubiquitous seaweed as Cavallier used in this fragrance a note of Posidonia seaweed. In the base, on the other hand, the master added an ingredient inextricably associated with the sea - mineral ambergris. The specific salty ambergris note lingers on the skin for many long hours, suggestively simulating the smell of sea salt on sun-warmed skin.

Even the flacon itself fits the deep marine nature of the whole concept. A stone that is dark in shade and aquamarine in color, whose curved shape was given over the years of weathering by the ocean. The name, content and form of the bottle are in perfect synergy, presenting a kind of unique and novel quality.

This is my favorite aquatic scent that I have found so far, and I absolutely love the smell. That cotton flower note really brings it all together if you ask me. I only have a couple of reservations with it. 1. Something about it changes once I sweat, and that seaweed comes out strongly and mixes with my sweat to create a scent I can't describe but it's not good. Something wet, like maybe beets? It's very weird. 2. I can smell how synthetic this is. Some days I love it, some days I can't stomach it. It's such a weird love, and I don't see it leaving my collection unless I find a scent that smells similar but more put together and with better quality ingredients.

KenshinMZ

It has a strong smell of something bad, almost like fart. I expected something in the lines of deep sea and ultra marine, but what I got was egg and fart

Lukey2002

This is a fresh aquatic scent with a bit more character and depth than your Gio or Versace Pour Homme. I like it. There is something that makes me smile when I put it on.

It's not a sweet fresh scent like Prada l'homme, more a little salty. Someone called it a 'dirty' aquatic. Had never thought of it like that. But thinking about it, yeh, is a bit like Nivea deodorant mixed with a little BO (but in a nicer way, lol).

Anyhows, if you are looking for fresh, aquatic but with a little punch, character and complexity then this for me is the one. Great for summer. Decent projection, good longevity. Wifey likes it too.

washudtoj

Classy seaweed.

Yup. If you guys want to smell like classy seaweed, this is the one.

FloralBread

" A Q V A by BUGAAERI " seems to be the appropriate way to announce this when anyone asks what you're wearing. It's a weird, moody and mysterious kind of fragrance - almost like you're a creature who has emerged from the ocean yourself.

Quite an intriguing scent! The salty seaweed note has an almost gasoline or freshly cut grass approach to it. For a fresh blue scent, this one is quite dark and peculiar. Almost like an impromptu stroll in the late summer evening, taking advantage of the cooler night air as the dew is settling over the lawns you pass by. It smells more natural, earthy, and almost dirty when put against the clean cut scents "freshies" seem to go for.

Compared to some of the other blue/fresh fragrances I have, I'd say this is the most unique and "masculine" approach to capturing freshness in a bottle...
Bleu de Chanel is a bit too fruit based and pretentious,
Versace Pour Homme is more refreshing but bland and forgettable,
and Davidoff Coolwater is a more bare bones version of this to me (while I've heard it's one of the original "ocean" scents, it's just too much like bodywash in this era).

AQVA definitely has that early 2000's sense of manliness to it - trying to be minimal, to the point, and taking itself way too seriously. Almost to a theatrical sense, like this scent belongs to a character.

Moving past the mood and story this one tells, I'd say the uniqueness might make it difficult to wear. The heavy and strong saltiness isn't very friendly or approachable for a work environment, the wet/clean freshness isn't that cozy or alluring on a date, and the overall boldness might be too dark for an everyday signature piece. I think this one would be good for a weekend trip or vacation where you'll be surrounded by the fresh summer air to contrast this. In the winter it reminds me of leaving the indoor swim practice when you still have chlorine in your hair.

While I don't think a large bottle is good for blind buying - I do recommend getting a sample to try out. This fragrance is quite an experience in itself!

imaboss

Its really a mushave in the summer days. I made a mistake ordering the atlantiqve verison , and believe me - the original is the best version. Just delicious , balanced aquatic scent. This is the KING of this type of scents.

shilpithshetty

Bvlgari Aqva is a must-have for all men because of its long-lasting fragrance. It’s not that expensive for a brand like Bvlgari, also considering the quality for the beach-like smell, the ever-lasting cooling effect.

Bear Claws

Ultimate deep ocean fantasy, simply the best and the king in this category (better than all other flankers), perfect balance of saltwater and marine botanicals, feels luxurious and sophisticated at the same time, not too overpowering with its "aquatic" side. Absolutely shines in humidity or rainy weather.

sergiuniculescu

The King of marine/aquatic fragrances! Simply the best! I have a 2019.09 batch small tester and kicking strong on my skin, I get whiffs now and then even after 8h. I ordered now a 100ml bottle. Hope it will have the same quality 👍

Mason500

Out of all the bvlgari aquas this was my last purchase.. And i don't know why i bought all the other ones first... This is really nice scent.. I think its the best out of them all.. Lasts decent nothing crazy.. Love the bottle

MancFrank

I had this fragrance years ago, just after release & have only recently purchased again. I don't know what took me so long - it's pretty damn good!

As noted by others, it has a very authentic oceanic air to it - lovely! Performance isn't top of the class, I get good, rather than stellar, projection & sillage for a couple of hours, thereafter closing in to a shrinking, scented bubble which becomes skin only after six or so hours. It's a long time since I wore this at the height of summer but would expect better performance then.

Usually, I don't care for assigning particular seasons to a scent but Bvulgari Aqva is the epitome of 'summer at the seaside'. Great 'dumb reach' for the warmer seasons & a strong recommendation from me - you'll smell uber fresh & divine in a world of same-ish, citric blandness.

MUHAFIZ

Its Fantastic & grt for high heat... Especially for hot Summer days. Just wore it in Summer🌞🏖️ & feel like a Hollywood Will Smith 😜😜.. Crisps & fresh clean watery notes, wat else u need. Just go for it.

Last good enough wid moderate Sillage

Kingonaire

I looove this scent, kind of similar to Nautica voyage N-83 to me though!

curt42

This is just so good as a summer aquatic. Don't know why anyone would dislike this other than the usual complaints about performance. Sure, after the great opening, it does settle down to a close scent bubble. But it is so damn good with the hint of seaweed, seaspray, and lavender/citrus/sage mix. I live 1/2 mile from the Pacific Ocean and walk along the beach often. Believe me, it is all there. Spray 5-6 times and then follow up a few hours later with same. That will get you thru a day and into evening. Summer and Spring only. Rock it like you mean it!

anthonycball

"Strength of the ocean?" More like, "strength of the tap water." I went in expecting strong, realistic ocean vibes. Instead I got a watery musk from the 5oz bottle I blind bought; which wears rather light.

At first, I was quick to write Bvlgari Aqva off as a boring, clean, fresh, aquatic fragrance. Don't get me wrong, it kind of is. However, this surprises you with its sillage; as every once and awhile you'll catch yourself having a "oh, is that me?" moment.

This fragrance is slight step up from the CK One Summer / Eternity Summer flankers; but at more than double the cost. I did want a little more.

Bvlgari Aqva is just okay, but not a must have. Adequate for summer, high heat or vacation. A few bonus points for the sillage I catch in the air.

AMajeedQT

Classic sea scent.

I believe Aqva is among the first mainstream fragrances that tried to capture the smell of the sea.

In that they succeeded.

Aqva is a fresh & aquatic, with orangish zest. It has an aromatic & clean lavender & sage freshness, and a musky/powdery/ambery aspect to it as well. It smell really fresh and watery.

Fresh, clean, watery, musky.

It has resemblance to Armani's classic Acqua di Gio (AdG) but Aqva has the twist of seaweed that gives it a salty/watery aspect. This also makes it less of an office scent then AdG yet it's perfectly wearable for work.

Really good for those hot summer days. Leans toward the youngish crowd but suits all.

This classic sea scent gets a "Love".

Shanedad0211

So I bought 4 large bottles Dolce Gabanna Light Blue intense, Versace signature, Blvgari aqva pour homme, Dylan Blue! And my wife’s two favorite fragrances of my large collection is this Versace Signature, Bleu Chanel parfum and she said this was her third favorite which beat out Aqua Di Parma essenza and Gio Armani profumo! Honestly I have to agree I carry this large bottle in my work truck and it makes my day that much happier even if I only get 2-3 hours of longevity out of it.

Fragaddict123

It is a great alternative to aqua ammara but with weak longevity really fresh and uplifting a must in summer

yossisinai21220

Perfect scent for a cruise. I actually took it for my first luxury cruise at sea. To this day whenever I smell it I get pictures of Caribbean blue sea in my head and being surrounded by the sea with no sight of land.

11PHOSPHORUS11

I have revisited this one yesterday in a search of summer memories and OMG!!!!
It's amazing and it keeps surprising me with the boldness and intensity.
I remember how many people used to complement me and ask about it, then lockdowns happened and I'm enjoying it by myself. Not a hardship really.
It lifts your mood instantly!
A memory of summer..

Hotduece

I do not like the opening of this fragrance. I sprayed one spray on my shirt and immediately thought this definitely is not for me. As it dried down, every whiff I caught was better and better. This is a fairly linear frag but as that God awful seaweed note fades and a light musky amber steps up, it becomes very pleasant. Perfect for a day out boating. It is unique so I'd try before you buy, and when you try be sure to give this an hour to develop before you form your opinion

Jonjonyew

I really like this fragrance and would buy another bottle if it was slightly cheaper. It is a one-dimensional fragrance, the light mandarin opening is quickly followed by the smell of the deep sea really reminds me of when I am fishing. It is a pleasant deep, salty and marine note that I thoroughly enjoy.
The performance is really good in Singapore weather, and it projects for 6-8hrs then lasting over 16 hours with whiffs when I walk by my shirt.
Although it may lack complexity I think if the weather is hot out, this is definitely a safe, lasting and reliable fragrance.

stephen.redeker

This is a classic aquatic fragrance. I call it a classic because it's a standard that has its place next to mainstays like Cool Water and Acqua DiGio, with the former closing out the 80's and the latter defining the 90's. Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme is more woody and mimics the ocean air better than the aforementioned brands. The smooth stone-shaped bottle is iconic. Some would call Bvlgari Aqva inferior, especially compared to the tons of modern fragrances that have emerged in the fifteen years since it was launched. True, there have been several successful flankers that outperform the original, such as Aqva Amara and Aqva Atlantiqve. However, this one is simple and perfect as a summer aquatic fragrance that doesn't need to fill a room or pull tons of compliments, like the flankers can. This is for the man that just enjoys what it smells like and needs nothing more. An important piece in my collection and I'm delighted to see my bottle comes from March 2005, which is the first year it was released.

Bdeville

This fragrance is pure freshness and sophistication. The freshness to me is mostly herbal where the citruses play a rather supporting role in the composition. I do get a little bit of the woody vibe after the dry down. To me this would be the mature alternative for versace eau fresh as is not as playful but rather a little more quiet still confident. Needs to be hot weather to get the most of the short projection, and if any the only downside of this fragrance. Not much to do but to reaply after a few hours. Would buy again? Not at least found at an unbeatable price.

Griffinn

I mean c'mon . I AM IN LOVE with this fragrance . I red so many reviews how bad is this fragrance , but when i bought it i was shocked ! Because man this is unique ! i found something special in it. Definitely a summer fragrance . Longlasting - around 2/3 hours ( tested during winter) so for the summer maybe 4-5 hours. This fragrance is with so much negative reviews and i don't know why? Most of the people tell that this fragrance will be on you for 1-2 hours max . I mean if you want fragrance that will be on you for like 8-10 hours just go and buy a winter strong fragrance. Definitely i recommend this fragrance . It is citrus , it is sea , it is beatiful ! it's a summer fragrance so 3-4 hours is just normal ! If you buy this fragrance you will be amazed how beatiful actually is!

RB2110

This perfume is just wonderful, I thought it was pretty simple and without too much content, but I was wrong and I am glad I was :)
It starts off in such a lovely and refreshing way, and after a while it changes to a very unusual scent that in my opinion simply symbolizes sophistication and elegance and in the end it is signed with a mild sweet floral scent that just leaves behind a mesmerizing and so amazing aroma. Although it is classified as an aquatic/marine fragrance it does not necessarily smell that way. This perfume is so worth the sympathy it receives and there is no doubt that it will continue to receive it.
In my opinion its just simply amazing :)

Orion's Arm

Aqva Pour Homme is not trying to be anything other than a very decent oceanic fragrance. That is exactly what it is.

Not a suntan lotion, day-at-the-beach aquatic. The sky and sand have been removed from the equation, and you get just the water. Big, clean, pure, and straightforward, like the ocean itself. The seaweed brings a slightly salty note, which makes sense. Reminds me of the casual, adventurous spirit of the 2000s. This scent has the presence of an aquatic shower gel without smelling quite as cheap as one.

It may be that this fragrance is just a little boring. But it was never trying to be avant-garde in the first place, so why judge it according to those standards?

Nobody will dislike smelling this on you, although it might come off as a bit "gym bro" to some people. Issey Miyake's L'Eau Bleue D'Issey is fairly similar, a simple, straightforward aquatic with some herbaceous notes which I feel give it more personality than this one. However, I don't dislike Aqva. Again, it's exactly what it tries to be.

spartaksci

Wore this back in 2007-2008 summer time. Meh. Not bad, but very forgettable. While it does capture the oceanic vibe, it has nothing remarkable about it. It's like a straight line or a blank canvas. I remember spraying this and feeling absolutely "whatever, dude", it was the frag i would wear to go grocery shopping or when going to college class in a hurry and just wanted to have a scent on me.

blaquemamba

Sexy yet not desperate - this is perfect for that confidently cool man / boy who is probably in a relationship but wants to assert big dck energy but not come off trying too hard. This scent is a head turner but not in mysterious way. A popular scent that most alpha men would know as a Bvlgari staple. Most men will have this in their gym bags, gym lockers or inside their glove compartment as a go to scent. Women who are up for fun will notice but might be a little to upfront for the dainty types. This is a very versatile scent - you can wear it all day at work then spray again after showering at the gym for a Friday night out. :)

roche299

projection and longevity look pretty bad for this one. not sure if its a new formulated but previously (reckon 3 years back) performed way better. i have to apply a lot, i mean real a lot than usual. disappointing

discardedandroid

My favorite of the line. Doesn't have the sun tan lotion or egg vibes from the others. A slightly musky aquatic citrus. Worth a try. Very cool bottle. Recommend.

dvdira

I really like the smell... sort of a casual citrus marine aquatic. A saltier, more beachy type. I'd love how this would feel on a Saturday, in a white shirt and jeans. Clean, fresh and relaxing.

The performance isn't that great though. Lasted only 2 hours thereabouts before I felt I had to respray again to sense it. It wasn't projecting also -- could hardly smell it, and neither did my son 3 feet away -- with the normal 3 sprays. Another 3 sprays did the trick though, so that's something.

Safe blind buy on the scent. Its sure to please if you're looking for a freshie. I'd buy a full bottle if it performed better, good thing I just tried it out with a decant.

Naseeb

I wore light blue Intense and on the very next day decided to try this one to work. It felt a bit harsh. It's not like I disliked it but it just didn't suit the occasion. I decided not to wear this in office because of its bold vibe. In short it's not the soothing fresh kind of a fragrance. But I Will definitely try again on a different occasion.

Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme smells like salty sweaty expensive underwear & seaweed molds from fish lol

jacobnoergaard

This is a nice blue and aquatic fragrance. It's got average longevity (but you need quite a few sprays) and low to moderate projection.

I can see / smell the resemblance to Oud Minerale, but it's missing the salty sting from Oud Minerale which is what makes Tom Ford's fragrance unique.

At the price it's okay, but don't go think you're getting a cheap Oud Minerale, 'cause you're not.

This is a VERY nice smelling scent. It really does smell like the deep ocean (provided we could take a sniff underwater) clean and almost warm smelling in the drydown. Unfortunately it is also VERY much let down by poor longevity. Dont make my mistake and pay full retail for it.

Compared to Aqva Marine, this has a note that I dislike. Like a dusty and humid storage room. It is darker/deeper like its bottle. But both have the same projection and longevity. Marine is a better summer scent to me.

I'm trying to embrace aquatics for the Summer. I've always been unimpressed with the genre, and wanted to find something that excited my nose. I had heard wonderful things about Aqva--thay it subverted the boring, same-y-ness of aquatics, that it was interesting, and even that it was the only good aquatic.

Eh. Eh. Look, I don't hate it. It's wearable. And I see where people are coming from. It's just that this feels less like The Best Aquatic and more like the basis for something that could be good. There is a lovely aquatic background that just needs a star note to make it sing. Imagine black currant or a beautiful peach or fig accord on top of this.

It'll do, I suppose. I just wish there was more to this genre.

Bvlgari Aqva Pour Home EDT opens with a moderate projection of citrus and oceanic notes. The opening is fresh, evocative of oceanic waters and breeze, and pleasant. The mandarin and orange are the citrus note, the resulting note is slightly sweet and it combines equally both notes. The seaweed is the next most prominent note, salty, and marine. The petitgrain is also noticeable, it adds a touch of orange leaves, green and citrusy. The cedar and woodsy notes incorporate fresh wood, slightly bitter and green accords; the last noticeable note is the clary sage, which adds a herbaceous and light leathery touch, soft but noticeable. The fragrance has some basic but important opening to dry-down changes, the opening favors the sweet citrus notes but these dissipate towards the dry-down, simultaneously, the woodsy notes and clary sage develop to accompany the seaweed going forward. All other notes in this fragrance are supporting notes, they add some floral, aromatic, and green touches but not the point to become featured accords. Once Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, oceanic (seaweed), and woody fragrance with some leathery, and soft green and floral accords. The fragrance feels airy, breeze (oceanic), exotic, fresh, slightly green, slightly leathery, marine, masculine, modern, natural, salty, woody, and pleasant.

This is my signature scent!!! Probably one of the best most underrated scents out there. Somehow they managed to take the scent of the ocean and fit it in a bottle. The perfect summer scent. Aqua and citrus and if you got a good nose you can smell seaweed. Don't be alarmed! the seaweed smells nice! My friend hugged me while i was wearing this and dug her face in my chest and just wouldn't let go.It gets major compliments and is even great in the winter. Also whatever it touches it sticks to...for like days!! I do wish it had more citrus but nothing is perfect. But this cologne is pretty close! BUY IT!

My first impression of this is that it's boring. However I do somewhat agree with the reviewer below me that this is more of a "night sea" smell. I think it will likely grow on me after a few wears, but initial thoughts are that it's linear and boring and doesn't have a great deal of depth. I like the aqua marine flanker more than this. Have not smelled atlantique yet. this is just a basic aquatic, but I may like it more as I give it some more wears.

second wear impression: initial thoughts are that it's kind of boring to the point of being vague. and also a very weak scent. I pick up a little bit of maybe.....seaweed notes, or grassy notes. like grass that is growing in a lake or certain sea inlet. just a bit. I guess I see what they were going for with this, but imo the formula is just super weak. it could be great if there was some performance to it. it has potential to be a really really nice scent, but it has no power. there's nothing projecting this. it is a very weak and vague skin scent. kinda tragic because it could be something great. it has potential to be a dark, mirky kind of sea weed aqua scent. it is not light green, but dark green mixed with sea notes. they did a good job on that uniqueness there, but it's so weak that it doesn't matter. just leaves you wanting it to develop more but it never really does. the poor performance here kills the potential. could be great, but it falls flat unfortunately

all in all I will say that it's a cool unique dark sea note smell. but given how weak it is I can't recommend blind buying this.

final impression after more wears: it did grow on me, and then somewhat got boring again haha. what I don't like about this line so far is that it's synthetic. I've tried this one and aqua marine and I liked them both at first but the synthetic ingredients really turned me off to aqua marine. now I don't like it at all.

overall this one is a better smell than marine, so I bought a full bottle. but I'm somewhat regretting it now because it's starting to get more synthetic on me.

This is not your average "day at the beach" kind of aquatic fragrance. Rather this is more of a "night at sea" kind of fragrance. Imagine you're on the deck of the ship late at night. Ahead of you is the endless ocean. You can hear the sound of the waves crashing, and you smell the strong ocean wind. It's not breezy and pleasant. It's deep, dark, daunting and classy. That's exactly what this fragrance smells like.

MNadz

Pleasant enough...although pales in comparison to others Bvlgari Aquas.

Goes on with the Bvlgari “sea” note but not much of anything else to jazz it up. I like Bvlgari’s aquatic vibe...hence I do enjoy all of the Aquas. Saying that, Amara has that strong citrus orange note, Marine also has a fresh citrus explosion, and Atlantique has the interesting addition of Ambroxan. With this one, I just get the “sea” note from beginning to end...again, pleasant just not enough to buy full bottle.

Longevity is below average and projection is average. Good for spring, great for summer.

Glad to have the decant, will not be buying a bottle. Meanwhile, I do recommend the others (although Marine’s longevity is very suspect).

Zeriel00

This is a classic fragrance I think most people have smelled this before. It's a bit over used and boring but it's not bad. I don't have much to say about it as it doesn't leave much of an impression on me.

It's a safe casual fragrance for summer. It has that Aquatic smell that it's really nice and then it dries down to a sweet note, besides that, it's just a bit boring and not very versatile outside of hot weather. I'm not saying that this is bad it's just so average and over used that you would be better off with just about anything else.

This is not so bad, definitely the best of the 3 original Aquas but a bit too generic and overused for my taste.

A summer staple!!

Ok so! I bought this one after watching Joy Amin’s review.. I was looking for a long lasting aquatic and I got this.. Aquatics are not my favorite, but I will have to say this one is amongst the best aquatic I have smelled.. I haven’t tried marine yet so I will keep an open mind.. This fragrance starts of with very fresh citrus notes and petit grain.. Then it goes into a darker direction with a seaweed note.. Which I found very unusual.. Usually aquatics go in a light and bright direction.. Could be why the color of the bottle is a dark teal color.. I get about 5-6 hours ok the skin with fair projection.. If you are considering buying this bottle go on YouTube and look for Joy Amin’s review.. It’s spot on!

There's a mistake with the notes list. Santolina is an aromatic evergreen shrub sometimes called "lavender cotton." Lavender isn't a listed note in this fragrance. And neither is cotton, but that doesn't really matter since cotton doesn't have a smell.

opal_volante

Nothing can be better than this, it's a type of perfume you cant get enough of, massive sillage, 8 hours longevity
It unique in it's own way, a year round classy bossy smell which you can use when going to a beach too, it is the best and no tom ford perfume can ever compete with the smell or the quality of it. Hands down amazing, a great fan of it.

Elijah

I usually don't like "fresh summer" fragrances, but this is really different. Smelling it, I can imagine a hot day, on a sunny beach, with the blue ocean shining in the sun light. It is something else between another dozens of regular blue fragrances.

Scotty123

I caught this one on sale for 29 dollars for the 1.7oz bottle and couldn’t pass it up. I hadn’t even read any reviews on it, but seeing as I’m a huge ocean and beach lover I’m drawn to aquatic, marine, salty oceanic, citrusy, fresh and blue fragrances. Having said that I was on my way to run some errands and went ahead and sprayed it on me and I was very impressed with the scent it truly is aquatic, citrus, marine, woody but is blended very well together. It lasted on my skin all the way up til bed time so about 8 solid hours of longevity and great smell. My opinion it’s one of the better Aqua scents out on the market, definitely worth adding to the summer collection.

Matux

Not a fan of acquatics, but this changed my mind. It is fresh and woody, stingy at first, with some citric notes that morph into woody notes, in this sense, very complex.

It is also a mild, soft blend that fits hot days: it vanishes after two or three hours of application, but blooms again after some light perspiration.

I think that it is one along the lines of L'Eau par Kenzo - I cannot say anything on other acquatics because it is a category I don't like. Now, I have the feeling I can understand the concept behind these - soft and at the same complex blends that won't project that much except under the right circumstances.

A very refreshing summer scent, but also harsh at first spray. Once it settles down after 30 minutes or so it is much more well rounded. I enjoy the sharpness though. This is a true aquatic fragrance and Bvlgari nailed the salty oceanic vibe they were going for. More of an outdoor fragrance than for office wear. Not as mainstream as most aquatic fragrances are made to be. I however, love it. Good longevity for a citrus/aquatic. On my skin it lasts longer than Light Blue Intense at 6-7 hours.

What a breath of fresh air. Such a lovely fragrance. I got it for my husband in 2014, but it's been relegated to a junk drawer, go figure. I was reminded of it today when I saw it in there. It's too good to go unsmelled for so long, so I took it out. Aqva PH feels best on a man in spring and summer evenings. I might wear it around the house too, it's so good. I love a good fresh spicy, woodsy scent on a man. That's why I bought it. It's not totally original in that there's nothing else like it. But Bvlgari are masters of aromatic perfumes and always nail it with quality and balance in that category. This is a great reminder of that. It's really wonderful. His bottle is from several years ago so I don't know how it differs now.

TrephineArtist

Interesting to read AndySmellsGreat's review because as I said in my review below, I had a bottle of this a decade ago and it was fantastic, a truly unique (at least to my nose) marine aromatique, giving a real sense of the ocean.

The reformulated bottle I bought a year or so ago contained what could only be described as a cheap knock-off smelling liquid. Incredibly light with no sillage at all, it smelled as if I had dipped my arm into a pond which was slightly stagnant. I tried a couple of testers in stores and they were the same by the way.

So, my advice, tread carefully and try before you buy, if it hasn't been horribly reformulated the only other possibility is that there are awful batches floating around, but I don't buy that (in more ways than one).

AndySmellsGreat

Wow! Despite my large collection and constant search for a better Marine scent and investing in many EDP’s I still can’t better this, Aqua Di Gio Profumo or Cool Water - So I can’t get over the negative reviews here.

This is quite an anosmic scent the scent bubble dropping to nose to skin after 4-6 hours. I find it more so in the heat to project quite decently for an EDT. I have tried all the other versions and infact find Aqua Marine Toniq to be the better in smell, projection and longevity - sadly it’s been discontinued so I bought a few bottles.

None the less I put both on each arm today to remind myself of my ‘roots’, when this made up one of a regular roster of only six perfumes in rotation.

This has after the initial spray on drydown a not overly strong sweet seaweed with a deep wood and orange and lavender seamlessly and smoothly mixed just above patchouli giving a sort of damp cardboard effect, all the while a touch of salt sits on top.

Very refreshing - and still the same after all this time reformulation or not.

Aqua Marine Toniq removes the dank damp cardboard and replaces it with what feels like a less dark sweet wood and sprinkle of cinnamon giving it also a larger body that lasts longer.

I feel gutted here as so often main stream cheap perfumes are often raved about as they are the most accessible and therefore enables everyone to write a review like an expert with joy. I can only feel that as it’s not quite a mainstream smell it’s left people jaded - I would say to nay sayers to find me a better performing Marine scent!

marcel2782

Non-salty aquatic, excessively comfortable and with a serious performance defect: it projects half arm for 45 mins and then it disappears from the skin. Yes: it projects little and absolutely don't fixate. This is one mf. useless frag.

Adammm

I want to love it, but it's just not something I would invest in personally. It is crisp and clean smelling with the lavender and linen notes from the clary sage, almost like fresh skin, but there is no citrus or spice so it is very subtle. I could see this being used as an all over body spray if you dont want to stand out bt smell clean.

First, before other blue fragrances!

As prominent, seaweed note gives sea feeling, salty, dirty aquatic, combined witu fruits and ambroxan.
At first is a bit sharp, but then goes deeper, darker and more rounded.

The longevity and sillage was powerful, of course I'm describing the older version.
I haven't tried latest batches.

It's a nice fragrance, fresh aquatic scent. My wife bought it for me as a gift from Duty- free shop Amsterdam Airport 14 years ago. This scent is like Aqua di gio profumo but it's not strong. I like this scent. Longevity is good.

@rantalloveragain or whatever your moniker is;

The irony of you referring to 'the dumbass' reviews is not lost on me.

I agree that this 'was' a fantastic fragrance, one of the best and most unique marine -like perfumes of all time, however newer batches are not the same, far from it in my opinion.

Note to Bvlgari=please bring back the previous formula or something close to it.

Registeralloveragain

I love this. This is 10 times better than every niche aquatic I’ve tried. Better than sel Marin, Acqua di sale, etc etc. people who talk trash about this are just trying to be cool.

TrephineArtist

@the previous two reviewers: I totally agree, either there are some bad batches floating around or this fragrance has been destroyed by reformulations to the point that it is unrecognisable to what it was upon release.

I first had a bottle 10 years ago and quite honestly it was a very strong aromatic fragrance (the mandarin note was very pungent as was the salty vibe!) it was also remarkably different to other men's releases, a little odd and kind of an acquired taste for a mass market release. I didn't like it much at first but grew to love it.

I bought a new 100% legit bottle earlier this year and was shocked by how light it was in comparison to the older stuff. I intend to track down a 'vintage' bottle to see if I am imagining things but I doubt it.

aussiecolognelover88

Not at all what I was expecting. I had read so many glowing reviews, people raving about this, so I blind bought it because my previous experience with Bvlgari has been positive. I’m a little disappointed with this if I’m honest, considering this is in the same family as Aqva Amara I was expecting something a little more unique.

To me, this smells EXACTLY like Calvin Klein Eternity Air, so much so that I fished out my bottle of that, sprayed it on one hand and Bvlgari on the other and they smell like the exact same fragrance to me. It’s a generic aquatic scent with no outstanding character whatsoever. Every now and again I would get a little whiff of something good but it was very fleeting, it smelt exactly the same during the dry down as when I first sprayed it.

It’s certainly not a bad fragrance, not by any stretch, it doesn’t smell bad, it just smells like so many other aquatic colognes, nothing makes it stand out from the crowd. I think I will be using this as an air freshener, or to bed. I suggest testing this before purchasing.

AMDDD

I bought this twice because the first bottle was ruined and had a horrible alcohol smell. The second time did not smell like alcohol but it is honestly unimpressive. I liked the initial blast and it certainly had a more gulf coast vibe rather then a tropical vibe, it was deeper and more rich. A lot more green and dirty smelling. Smelt like standing on a pier by an overcast beach as opposed to a tropical resort. It is more dressy and formal then say Nautica voyage but I found it weak and fleeting. I’m not a fan of the bottle shape either. I’m weird about laying fragrances on its side because in my younger days I’ve ruined bottles of liquor by laying it on its side, so I have the same idea with laying fragrance on its side. I wanted to like it and a way I did but it just wasn’t “sticky” enough. I’ll buy one of the flankers next summertime and see if they work better. Again I like the notes, but it couldn’t leave an impression.

NS2484

Has a super fresh aquatic opening with a pleasant and natural smelling dry down. Definitely a warm weather scent. It's just a good overall warm weather scent. You won't get good performance with this below 75 degrees so save it for the hot days and wear something else on the cooler days. A non-offensive scent safe for office use or just to freshen up on a hot day. This could be a great signature warm weather scent for someone. 75 degrees F and above. Natural smelling. Good for a beginner looking for a fresh aquatic, as well as the more experienced nose looking for a go-to warm weather scent. This scent is very safe, well-blended, and is one of the best warm weather scents out there. However if you're looking for something with a spicy or zesty note, this probably isn't for you.

Freddy78

Nice fruity, fresh spring and summer scent. The seaweed makes it smell very interesting. I like it, but there are other spring/summer scents I like even more.

swax1990

I have worn it last night when it was cold, I'll be damned... but it smelled really strange on me like straight seaweed but bathed in muddy water. I was not getting oranges and mandarins, no fruits aroma at all. Very oppressive, cruel, stifling smell and gloomy. It's definitely made me worry about using in cold weather, not versatile as long as i thought it would be. Some perfumes aren't meant to be utilized in cold weather and this one is one of them. While, on warm weather it is fantastic, it really shines.

Truly evocative of summer in the Mediterranean. The orange and mandarin play out on the top notes together with lavender and floral notes - all against a base of green: a slightly salty-creamy, damp, moist greenness. After a while, the lavender continues and woody notes play more of a role, and the green element backs away a bit but remains detectable.

My bottle is brand new, and I was worried by reports that reformulation may have killed or diluted the fragrance. Four hours in, and with Aqva still decidedly strong and resilient, my worries faded! What's more, the creamy-woody scent was heavenly! Outstanding! I could not stop sniffing my arm.

This scent is wonderful, and I am so pleased that it is still in production. My recommendation? Get it while you can.

First tried this when it's newly launched and was impressed.
Got the bottle after 14 years.
I don't know if it's been reformulated or it's just me.
I remember it used to be more like salty sea breeze but the latest time i put it on it's a lot more green, less salty but still in very aquatic DNA.
It's still great cologne though.

Good for daily wear if you love aquatic note(and live in hot climate zone like me) But i've heard many can't tolerate its saltiness. Try before you buy if possible.
Sillage is quite soft. It's on subtle side.
Lasts 4-5 hours on me but kind of skin scent so i'll just spray it on my clothes to improve its longetivity.

Celeria

Dark aquatic and salty fragrance, really original and a bit daring for a fresh scent, lasts quite a while.

Smells like the inside of a dusk seacave or like the really deep waters.
This is a perfect summer night scent

I have used this as a daily scent before i started my fragrance hobby.. i like the scent a lot.. its unique and dark but fresh at the same time.. there is prominent salty accord in the opening with citrusy freshness.. it basically smells like this the whole way to the drydown.. only down side is the performance.. it project about an arms length for 1 hour and then stays very close to the skin.. by 5 hours its almost completely gone.. i dont mind the poor projection as i dont like a loud fragrances. it can be annoying sometime, but i do prefer my scent to stays longer.. what a shame..

A summer staple in my collection

A salty and green aquatic, with character and unique notes. This is a niche like fragrance with a designer price tag.

A more masculine aquatic and quite salty, so blind buying might not be recommended for a guy younger than 20.

4 to 6 hours longevity, fair projection and silage , which is decent.

Amazing summer fragrance that has landed me some of my best compliments and attention.

The smell is phenomenal on a beach/night/rainy everning. It smells very cool, calm and definitely elegant. Class in a bottle. Performance is good even with reformulations it's no big deal. Get yourself a bottle for about $30. Just get this holy grace of liquid. You can't go wrong with this.

A beautiful and unique summer fragrance. salty marine notes which I like so much.

Smellwise

I agree with the comment below me.. the newer bottle is watered down.. this has been my signature scent for quite a few years.. before i started collecting.. i bought a newer bottle last year and its not like i remembered.. the smell is lighter and less salty.. still decent smell since i like this dna.. but the performance is very bad.. 2 hours then i can barely smell it.. i have good skin for fragrance since many scent that people said dont last do last quite good on me.. i can imagine if this newer aqua bottle has poor performance on me it might be worse on others.. if only this performs like aqua atlantique.. it would be a gem..

TrephineArtist

I was gifted a bottle of this around 2010, at first I thought it was a strange smelling brew but then quickly grew to love it's oddly compelling nature which really made me think of the deep blue sea like no other fragrance.

However my ex GF (who had given me the bottle) soon made the bottle her own (ie we 'shared' it lol). So this year I had the urge to revisit that smell of the sea, especially given that I used to live by the Mediterrean and I often miss that salty blue maritime vibe.

Well I'm not usually one to jump on the whole 'this has been badly reformulated!!!' bandwagon, but it has! I blind bought (an official tester) due to no store in my town stocking the original anymore and upon first spritz I thought I had been sold a fake! It was like someone had filled the beautiful bottle with tap water, or pond water to be more precise. I've since checked a few testers at airports and they are the same as the one I purchased. To me the massively hyped Aqva Amara was the same. I'm interested to try Aqva Marine but have learned to never blind buy another Bvlgari fragrance, or would it be third time lucky? Right now I have my doubts.

My advice, don't blind buy this one, or at least seek out a vintage if you must. Even so, back when I first owned Aqva it was an acquired taste but at least you could actually smell it, in fact I used to find it a pretty strong stuff. What used to be the smell of crashing waves has become a ripple in a pond.

Bonjour...

Couldn't stand it from the get go, but it grew on me and now it's one of my favorite. The salty/muddy note brings back memories of far away tropical places. Wonderful.

swax1990

This is a masterpiece. It's truly an aquatic and aromatic scent, fresh, elegant, energetic, marine. Starts off with a very dark aroma of realistic ocean, but in a genteelly way, with notes of mandarin orange, petitgrain, realistic saltwater from the ocean and there's a lot of deep-water seaweed. It leans extremely masculine. On drydown the seaweed becomes prominent but in a pleasant manner. I don't know how Bvlgari pulled it off, but the smell of this scent is what deep underwater sea must smell like. This scent is not heavy and yet it not as light and of course, it has depth and sophistication.
One of best aquatic scents ever. Fantastic creation Bvlgari!

Aqva Pour Homme is a classic as well as one of the most sold by the Bvlgari company. Speaking of the fragrance:
Initial seaweed explosion which lasts for about an hour. The impact is followed by a wonderful orange (one of the best ever smelled). Finally, Petitgrain and cedar arrive.
Performance absolutely below average (we speak of 3 maximum 4 hours). To clarify that for me it is a fragrance more citrus than Marine(I would say aquatic because there's nothing that remember salt or breeze at all).
Analysis: 7/10
P.s: They could have taken away that horrible mandarin.

bvl aqva pour homme
one spray to inner elbow
hot himid summer

lady here, i love this line, on guys and on myself.
id probably get a bottle and just nick some now and then.

it smells different in the winter compared to summer.
summer brings out the woods a little more, cooler weather its more 'black sand rocky beach'

For first-time it was a like, now it's a love. Aqua Pour Homme stands for the depth of the seas, the darkness of the sea during the night and represents men's virility for sure. Sprayed today on me, it does have an elegant mediterranean touch, very distinct smell. In the air I smell the most seaweed + combo of citriuses (oranges + mandarin probs), somewhat seaweed vibe. Projection is almost non-existent... but it does have 7-8 hrs of longevity for me - close to the skin. This is a wonderful dark fragrance in general and great for evening or day wear in Summer or Winter. Actually, safe in all seasons.

What a great scent! Definitely a go to for the summer. It is very likeable, but unique. Marine but not aquatic. Masculine but not macho. Fresh but not bright. I find it more complex than other reviewers. Definitely well blended. This, and, frankly all its flankers are a win for me.

This is my choice for a hot summer day!
Fresh, complex big and yet subtle.
A bit expensive for what it is as all Bvlgari fragrances are, but never mind - spoil yourself.
This is the best one when compared to the rest of Bvlgari Aqua siblings.
Don't be afraid to over-spray yourself with it as long as you're spending time outdoor for the day.
One of my must-have scents.
Let it be and don't mix it with other fragrances.
A definitely more than just a safe purchase!

It's hard to write a review of an old favorite, which was killed by reformulations.

The old Aqva was the best aquatic scent I've ever smelled. It was... Deep, intriguing, raw, authentic, wild and masculine - all in a very classy, well-balanced way. Ozony and seaweedy notes dominated in the top phase, but they lingered throughout the middle and base phase as well, giving this perfume a steady, seductive, mouth watering blast of freshness. On the other side, cedar, patchouli and clary sage provided the optimal amount of huskiness, while subtly sweet amber and moderately dark woodsy notes made the whole thing feel really grounded. The imagery it evoked was like a heavy, wet stone covered in moss, sitting confidently near a river in the forest after a heavy thunderstorm.

Recently I've tested the new, reformulated version. To my dismay, it smells like it was stripped down, castrated, distorted, chewed up, spat out, and bottled under the old name. The smell is dramatically different - it smells cheap, synthetic, and almost cheesily sweet. Above all - it smells spineless and generic. Only the dry down phase has subtle hints of the old glory. Projection and longevity are now also subpar - but that may be a good thing, since I don't want this new version to stay long on my skin. To be honest, I don't want it to be anywhere close to my skin. :(

Incredibly similar to Aqua di Gio. But I think I prefer this one. (Female here)

oh-so-vague

Aqva's point of difference amongst the many water-themed fragrances of the era is that it lacks the aquatic note- I would describe it as a dry marine fragrance rather than a true aquatic. It smells of sea spray and seaweed but doesn't smell "wet". I love this understated complexity and that's why this is my pick of all the marine/aquatic scents I've tried so far.

I tried this side by side at the airport with the Marine flanker, which does have the aquatic note, and my comparison is that due to the "wet" scent Marine is a more playful, splashy fragrance, whereas the original Aqva is more serious, mature and austere. Think a waist-deep waterfight on a sunny day, beach balls flying around, versus an overcast walk on a craggy shore.

Ended up buying the aerosol version of this as it was cheaper, haven't compared it side by side with the EDT but it seems to smell pretty much the same.

Besides ADG Essenza/Profumo, Aqva Pour Homme is one of the classiest aquatics I've come across. I see a lot of sensitive noses disliking the seaweed note and trying to make this out to be a harsh scent, it's not. Real seaweed stinks of pungent salt, this totally lacks that bite. Instead, Aqva mixes the most pleasant, yet noticeable aspects of seaweed with an oceanic citrus and a real all around lightness to it as well. I could almost say flowery.

But once you get a whiff of this stuff, it just screams well blended and it would make sense that it was the first of the Aqva line to be produced. Its just so masterfully thought out and crafted. There is this gorgeous shimmering quality to it. When I think of colors I get a dark green backdrop with spot light-like beams of gleaming gold. I think it's safe to say that it is also the most masculine of the Aqva series with Amara coming in second.

There is no fishy quality about this either, something I can't say about Atlantiqve. Moderate performance in longevity/silage, but doubling up of sprays helps bump it to 7-8 hours of longevity and 2-3 of projection - you won't offend anyone. I'm 23 and rock this just as much as Marine. Women certainly do pick up on the quality of this scent, which obviously gets some attention. One of the few aquatics that is complex enough to draw you in and not just equal out to smelling fresh and "nice".

The REAL strength of the ocean captured in a bottle.
