Softball Adds Ewers To 2023 Class

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW softball Head Coach Kristy Norton has announced the addition of pitcher Carrigan Ewers to the Seahawks' 2023 recruiting class.

Ewers, a Spring Hope, N.C. product, will join the Seahawks after two seasons at Louisburg College, an NJCAA school, where she helped the Hurricanes finish last season ranked third in the NJCAA DII Softball Poll with a 41-6 record.

"Carrigan is going to be an exceptional addition to our team, especially in the circle," said Norton. "She really has had a nice career at Louisburg and will only continue to get stronger and more competitive when she has the opportunity to get in the weight room regularly.  We are really looking to see how she can help elevate our program."

Through 12 starts this season, the 5-10 right-hander is 8-2 with a 1.81 ERA through 65.2 innings pitched. Ewers has fired four shutouts this season, the fourth-most in the country.

As a freshman, Ewers went 14-1 in 25 appearances, 16 starts, with 84 strikeouts, and was named to the South Atlantic All-Tournament Team at the end of the season.

Before joining the Hurricanes, Ewers enjoyed a standout prep career at Southern Nash where she was a three-time Big East 3A Pitcher of the Year and two-time All-State recipient for the Firebirds. Ewers also played first base at Southern Nash, leading the conference in home runs (6) and doubles (6) in 2019.

Ewers pitched 211.1 innings across three high school seasons, where she finished with a 1.85 career ERA and recorded 25 complete games in 36 starts.
