Governor No-No-No Newsom: Water Warnings, Restrictions If No Consumer Compliance

(Sacramento, CA) — The state of California may impose mandatory water restrictions if voluntary efforts continue to come up short. Governor Gavin Newsom is convening a panel of representatives from water agencies throughout the state. On Monday, Newsom warned them to take more aggressive actions to combat drought and better engage their customers to make sure everyone is doing their part to save water. After the last drought, the water agencies asked for more flexibility in conservation efforts. Governor Newsom warned that if this localized approach to conservation does not result in a significant reduction in water use statewide this summer, the state could be forced to enact mandatory restrictions. The agencies will reconvene in the next two months to provide an update on their progress.
