Google Cloud Security AI Workbench—Conversational Security
On Monday April 24TH at the RSA Conference 2023 held in San Francisco, Google Cloud announced it was entering the Generative AI Security space with its Security AI Workbench offering. Built on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI infrastructure, it’s positioned as an open platform available to partners and customers alike.
Sec-PaLM— Google and Mandiant Powered Large Language Model
Google has developed a security specific large language model (LLM) based on Google PaLM that it’s calling Sec-PaLM. This new LLM is trained on massive amounts of data from Google’s broad visibility of the threat landscape combined with Mandiant’s frontline intelligence on threat indicators, methods, and remediation techniques.
Chronicle and Security Command Center get Conversational
Chronicle, Google Cloud’s Security Operations Suite, and Security Command Center, Google Cloud’s centralized vulnerability and threat reporting service, will be using Security AI Workbench to add a conversational interface to these services. This empowers users to conversationally search, identify, and get recommendations on remediation techniques for potential security vulnerabilities.
These capabilities can empower non-security experts to take steps to ensure that assets within their control are secured and expand the knowledge and abilities of junior security professionals
with that of seasoned experts.
Google Doubles Down on Open Cloud Ecosystem
Google Cloud and Mandiant’s overall cybersecurity partner ecosystem includes integrations to over 100 cybersecurity vendors and this number is continuing to grow. Any of these security partners can now add generative AI to their products through API calls to Security AI Workbench, in fact Accenture announced on Monday as well that it will be the first partner to utilize Security AI Workbench in its managed detection and response (MxDR) security service.
In addition to growing its open cloud ecosystem, Google is ensuring that customers can use these AI enhanced tools across any cloud platform, providing the option of a single toolset regardless of cloud provider.
Bottom Line
Google Cloud Security AI Workbench appears to be a direct response to Microsoft’s announcement last month of its Security Copilot. On the surface Google appears to be upping the ante as it provides over 100 integrations to a wide range of security offerings, whereas Microsoft’s Security Copilot is currently limited to integrations with the Microsoft technology stack. I suspect this announcement will provide Microsoft with some added incentive to open its integrations to other vendors as well.
