How do you attract a top performer to come work for your organization when they are currently working for another firm that is bigger and better known than yours, and that might generally be perceived to be more attractive than yours? Hint. Don’t do what most company’s do. Don’t offer them a position that is essentially the same as the one they currently have and hope more money might do the trick. Instead offer them a role that they’re not totally ready for. A role that might be 2-3 years away if they stayed at their current organization. A “reach” role. Then support the hell out of them to make sure they’re a success. And once they are? Move them into another reach role.

It can be hard to ask for help but once you do you will be so pleased you did. I used to be rubbish at getting help. I'm very self-sufficient✅️ I'm very independent✅️ I feel incredibly capable✅️ But no matter there are still things we need to get help with. 🆘️On Saturday night I asked for help twice!! 🛏Firstly my husband who is very poorly fell out of bed and I just couldn't get him back in. After some resistance I went and asked a neighbour to help - which they did happily. And it only took 2 minutes of their time. 🚑Then later when his condition worsened I called 999. I've never done this before and I still felt reluctant, I don't know why but anyway, they were fabulous and within 20 minutes I had experts on the scene. 🆘️I have had many times in my career when I have needed to call on experts. 🤔I have had many times in my career when I should have called on experts or called them sooner. I have learned over the years that I don't know everything, I am not the expert at everything and I often need help. Since running my own business I have definitely needed help and so I have turned to people who have been where I am now. 💰I have invested in business support just like I invested in career and leadership support and I have never regretted it. I know that getting support from professionals really helps move you forward with whatever it is you want to achieve. So, I hope you don't need an ambulance - but if you do, call one. 2.5 weeks ago, I had a clear verbal from a CEO (salary, benefits, etc.)... 2 days later, the word was broken, the offer rescinded, and my wife and I were left crushed, confused. Weeks prior, I was given feedback from a hiring manager that I shouldn't be truthful about a situation, even if it served as motivation. Interviewing is difficult. It's hard to know what to say. I feel like at times I'm judged because I've been honest, I've made myself vulnerable. You just don't know what to say, or how it's going to be perceived. I know who I am: I know what I'm capable of, what my track record is, and I have a well defined plan for success. I've learned from my failures (I never stop learning) and I continue to grow from them.
