About the Focal Chora Surround
On-wall surrounds for a Focal Chora sound system
On-wall surrounds for a Focal Chora sound system
If you're building a sweet-sounding home theater system with speakers from Focal's Chora line, this speaker will work perfectly for your side or rear surround channels. It features a 6-1/2" woofer and 1" tweeter in a sealed cabinet for rich, accurate music and sound effects. The entire perimeter of the cabinet is angled to deliver extremely wide dispersion, which is ideal for a surround speaker. A bracket is included for convenient, low-profile wall mounting.
Signature driver design
This on-wall speaker uses the same drivers found in other members of the Chora speaker family, so it's a perfect sonic match. Like its cousins, it features a Slatefiber woofer made of light, yet rigid recycled carbon fibers. That makes these cones lighter, more responsive, and better at damping unwanted vibration.
For reproducing high frequencies, Focal chose their TNF inverted dome tweeter. This design uses a material called Poron, which suspends the tweeter from its mount. It's the same type of suspension used in Focal's flagship Utopia speakers. Think of it as memory foam. By maintaining its shape as the driver moves, it significantly reduces distortion for clearer sound.

Features
Two-Way Surround Loudspeaker: The Focal Chora Surround loudspeaker utilizes a two-way driver design with a 1" TNF aluminum/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter and a 6.5" slatefiber cone woofer for precise and dynamic sound. The Focal Chora Surround speaker can be used as a surround or surround back speaker in your home theater system to give you a more immersive listening experience.
TNF Aluminum/Magnesium Tweeter: The Focal Chora Surround features a single 1" TNF inverted-dome tweeter made of aluminum and magnesium alloy. The inverted-dome technology allows optimal energy transfer and wide dispersion. The aluminum/magnesium makeup guarantees exception performance in terms of stiffness and damping, thus ensuring a subtle blend of softness and dynamics. Performance of the TNF tweeter is enhanced by its new Poron suspension material. Poron is a polyurethane micro-cellular foam which has a porous open-cell structure. This memory foam is very light which means that the suspension will not become damaged or compressed with time. It is an essential element of the TNF tweeter as the suspension allows the dome to move freely. Its uniform and constant physical properties ensure excellent stability and linearity, along with extreme accuracy and distortion-free sound. The result is a sound which is soft and precise and which offers improved harmonics richness and a more precise soundstage
6.5" Slatefiber Cone Woofer: Slatefiber technology, exclusive to Focal, involves the use of recycled, non-woven carbon fibers applied as a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibers, all pointing in the same direction to achieve even greater rigidity and better damping. Manufactured in the Focal workshops using an ultra-modern industrial tool, the "slate" effect of the cone provides better damping and rigidity, but also lightness - the three "essentials" of a good loudspeaker driver.
Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Focal Chora Surround speaker features an acoustic suspension (sealed) cabinet that uses solid MDF construction, internal bracing, and a non-parallel inner wall structure to reduce internal resonance for less coloration.
Grille: The Chora Series Surround loudspeaker comes with a detachable magnetic cloth grille that covers the woofer. The grille has to be aligned just right with the front of the cabinet to magnetically attach to the speaker. The tweeter features its own integrated, non-removable grille.
Binding Posts: The Focal Chora Surround loudspeaker is outfitted with a pair of binding post terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, spade connectors, and banana plugs (single only). You'll need to remove two plastic caps from the binding post terminals to accommodate banana plugs.
Mounting & Placement Options: The Focal Chora Surround speaker is designed to be wall-mounted. It features a rear-panel keyhole slot and comes with a mounting bracket that allows it to be easily mounted to a wall (mounting screws not included). Self-adhesive rubber pads are included to stick on the back of the Surround speaker to isolate the speaker from the surface of the wall and prevent any unwanted vibration.
- As Surround Back speakers, each Focal Chora Surround speaker should be placed between 135 to 150 degrees behind the main seated listening position at ear level or just above ear level (see User Manual).
- As Surround speakers, each Focal Chora Surround speaker should be placed between 90 to 110 degrees to the side of the main seated listening position at ear level or just above ear level (see User Manual).
Note: The Focal Chora Surround speaker is designed to be wall-mounted only. The design and shape of the speaker prevents it from being mounted on a stand, tabletop, or shelf.
Chora Series: Focal's Chora Series integrates speaker drivers manufactured in France and features an exclusive Slatefiber cone. Every detail of the Chora Series has been meticulously thought out to meet expectations in sound reproduction and aesthetics. The Chora Series by Focal consists of three floorstanding loudspeakers (816/826/826D), one bookshelf loudspeaker (806), a center-channel loudspeaker (Center), Surround loudspeaker (Surround).
Optional Powered Sub: Add on a Focal powered subwoofer (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for bigger, deep, and more dynamic bass response.
