The Fellowship is open to any U.S. citizen completing their formal education or in the early stages of their musical career. Ideal candidates will bring a diverse background of musical and personal experiences.
Fellowship positions are open to instrumentalists, vocalists, and conductors that are represented in the following ensembles:
Concert Band: Featuring 52 musicians, the Concert Band performs across the United States via biannual tours, engages the local community in our nation's capital through numerous concert series, and reaches millions globally through live radio, television, and internet broadcasts.
Concert Band instrumental fellowships are offered June 12-15, performance on 15 June at National Harbor.
Fellowships are available for conductor, flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, Bb clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, percussion, timpani, harp, and piano.
Air Force Strings: This ensemble of 17 musicians performs a wide range of musical styles, from classical symphonic selections and Broadway show tunes to classic rock, bluegrass, and patriotic compositions. The ensemble often entertains audiences at high-level military and government events in a formation known as the Strolling Strings.
Air Force Strings Fellowships may be offered for approximately one week between 10-14 June. Performance on June 14th at the Atheneum.
Fellowships are available for violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
Singing Sergeants: Featuring 20 vocalists and a four-member instrumental combo, the Singing Sergeants support military and civilian ceremonial and diplomatic functions, education outreach events, and concerts throughout the National Capital Region and the United States. They perform as a full chorus as well as soloists in a wide variety of genres from pop to opera.
Singing Sergeants fellowships are offered June 12-15, performance on 15 June at National Harbor.
Fellowships are available for vocalists of all voice types, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard.
Airmen of Note: Created in 1950 to continue the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces dance band, the current band consists of 18 musicians. Through the years, the Airmen of Note has presented its own brand of big band jazz as well as more contemporary forms of jazz to audiences via biannual tours across the United States, concerts around the world, and local performances throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C.
Airmen of Note fellowships are offered June 4-8. Performances on 7 June at the Air Force Memorial and 8 June at the National Harbor.
Fellowships are available for trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and vocalists.
Max Impact: Featuring six musicians, Max Impact regularly presents high-intensity rock/pop performances throughout the nation and abroad. The ensemble supports events at the White House, State Department, Department of Defense, and numerous other high-level military and civilian functions to advance international diplomacy with America’s allies and strategic partners.
Max Impact fellowships are offered July 29-Aug 3rd. Perfromance on 3 Aug at the National Harbor.
Fellowships are available for vocalists, guitar, drums, bass, and keyboard.
