If anyone needed any proof that Silk Sonic is a guaranteed good time, their recent performance opening the GRAMMY Awards in Las Vegas was more than sufficient. Their sublime mixture of retro soul and funk, on full display in their performance of “777,” was the absolutely perfect way to open the ceremonies at the MGM Grand Garden Arena: For GRAMMY fans, it doesn’t get better than the combination of superstars Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak; and for fans of the group, it was a preview of what to expect from their residency at Park MGM.

Beginning with its debut at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Feb. 25, An Evening With Silk Sonic has satisfied on every level, bringing a funky and soulful musical revelation to the sturdy structure of the Las Vegas Strip headlining residency. And with concert dates only extending through the month of May, this definitely qualifies as a must-see show. (Although we fervently hope this becomes a longer residency; there aren’t many shows that seem more perfectly suited to Las Vegas than this one.)

Ideally matched performing partners Mars and .Paak are both electric live entertainers, and both are clearly overjoyed to be singing and playing these songs—from the debut Silk Sonic album released in November—on any stage, let alone in front of 5,000 fans in one of the crown-jewel rooms on the Strip (which has also hosted mega-acts like Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, The Jonas Brothers and Cher). They bounce between drum kits and guitars, swinging and swaying through Motown and disco-inspired choreography, and neither one ever seems to stop smiling.

Backed by a fierce band, the duo reaches beyond Silk Sonic tracks to incorporate R&B classics into the setlist, as well as their own solo hits. Mars’ “That’s What I Like” is wrapped in Earth, Wind & Fire vibes, and interpolations of Con Funk Shun’s “Love’s Train” and Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” shine as brightly as Silk Sonic’s smash single “Leave the Door Open,” which won a GRAMMY for Song of the Year.

Speaking of the GRAMMYs … In case anyone needed any proof that Silk Sonic is a force to be reckoned with, they won every single award they were nominated for, including Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Record of the Year.

These talented artists aren’t transporting the audience to another era so much as pulling that era’s amazing music into the present day, reminding us how good it feels.

Dolby Live at Park MGM, 9 p.m. May 4, 6-7, 10, 13-14, starting at $210 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com
