I met Caroline Gleich at an Expert Voice summit a few years ago -- and started following her from that point forward. I've remained impressed with her tenacity, her willingness to push boundaries, and that she makes her efforts look fearless, even when she's scared. I'm still thinking through the entire experience of being at NPEW this year. As usual, it was overwhelming, and amazing, and thought-provoking, but it also really got me thinking about how impossible it is for a new brand to stand out at this show. I'm very curious about the upcoming Newtopia, and I'm hopeful that this new show will provide emerging brands a place to be discovered. I'm planning to attend the event, and evaluate it for a future exposition for Orlo Nutrition. Eating animal based foods concentrates our exposure to all sorts of pollutants from environmental toxins and heavy metals, to pesticides and microplastics. This is one of the many reasons I'm shifting to plant based eating after being an omnivore for 47 years. The more I learn the more I understand how critical this shift is for the future of humanity and planet earth. I've had to ask myself some really hard questions along the way. I thought ending my milk use would be hardest, but then I learned I was sensitive to casein, a protein in milk, so I left most milk products, including most cheese, in the dust. The only animal products left in my diet are: 🐄 Regenerative Organic (rBST free) Whey protein (so not completely dairy free yet) 🧀 Parmigiano reggiano on my pasta 🥚 Eggs in certain baked goods 🍯 Honey I think this means I'm officially an ovo/lacto #vegetarian though I'm not completely #vegan yet. I might not ever reach 100% vegan from an ethical perspective, even if I cease all dairy and eggs, because I believe in the power of honey to cure many ailments. I use locally-sourced honey (from within 50 miles of my door), some of which my friends backyard farm, to reduce my seasonal allergies. It works really, really well. The medicinal power of honey is truly awe inspiring.

Yesterday, I had the honor of hosting a conversation about the future of nutrition and food with Isaac Berzin, the CTO and co-founder of Vaxa Technologies Ltd. and Berglind Ran Olafsdottir, CEO of ORF Genetics at Bifrost Summit. This could be seen as my first #podcast episode on stage for Care More Be Better: Social Impact - Sustainability - Regeneration. Key takeaways: Shifting our understanding of what's sustainable to focus on #regenerative and #circular solutions is what we all need. Iceland offers an abundance of green energy and scientific talent to help scale innovation and long-term solutions that might otherwise never get off the ground. Microalgae offer #omega3 and #protein in abundance along with key micronutrients -- but as with anything you grow, doing so mindful of resources is critical. With the right tech, and in a controlled environment, unlocking their full potential and keeping the algae "happy" is possible. Their nutrient profile could even replace the beef and even the fish on your plate. Barley can be unlocked as a powerhouse for the scaling of lab grown meat, which could make feeding humanity a rich protein sources easier, especially as our populations continue to grow. Our taste for protein that looks, feels, and tastes like meat isn't going away, so solutions like the one ORF Genetics is putting into the world will be needed. Both companies sit at the intersection of optimized technology, scientific expertise, and are examples of the #futureoffood.
