Letter from Mayor Robert Hedlund
Textile Recycle Hub
A Textile Recycling Corporate Citizen agrees to host one or more Bay State Textiles recycling bins at their location that will benefit the Weymouth Public Schools. Bay State Textiles empties the bins 1-2 times per week based on how quickly the bins fill. Bay State Textiles makes every effort to maintain the boxes both in appearance and pick-ups. The area around the bin is maintained by ensuring items left outside the bin(s) are removed.
Why is this important?
Effective November 1, 2022, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is adding textiles to the list of WASTE BANS.
- Items are used for their intended purpose if quality allows
- Items are accepted in all levels of quality, including single shoes/socks, ripped items, etc. (Non-acceptable items include items stained with hazardous materials such as gas or oil, full size room carpets, any kind of foam, and mattresses)
- Damaged items become raw materials for new products (ie: sneakers become asphalt, jeans become insulation, stuffed animals become car seat stuffing, etc.)
