6 Spots to Cast a Line in Liberty County

People say they don’t mind if they don’t catch anything, they just like to be on the water. We believe in having the best of both worlds, so we have compiled a list of 6 spots to cast a line in Liberty County. Our inshore fishing yields flounder, sea trout and red drum. Our docks and piers are good places to find black drum and sheepshead! Check out some of our favorite spots below, and don’t forget to bring your bait and tackle!

1) Sunbury Fishing Pier

3320 Ft. Morris Road, Midway

Located in Sunbury, you’ll find a large pier for fishing and a public landing with direct access to our intracoastal waterway! It’s a great spot to relax and catch some fish! If you get tired of fishing head over to the Sunbury Crab Company for fresh, local seafood. Pro Tip: If you’re able to sneak away on a weekday this pier is largely unused Monday-Friday so you may even get the place to yourself!

2) Jones Creek Park

2059 Isle of Wight Road, Midway

This hidden gem on Isle of Wight in Midway includes a public ramp for small boats, a fishing area, playground and sheltered seating for twenty. This spot is particularly great because it’s fun for the whole family! We recommend that you stay until sunset because Jones Creek Park provides a front row seat to the best view!

3) Bryant Commons

438 W. Oglethorpe Hwy., Hines

Spend a leisurely day fishing in the pond at Bryant Commons, but be sure to put back what you catch. This pond is catch and release only! This spot is great because it offers a variety of things to do like walking trails, the ITPA Museum, Cisco’s Dog Park and a playground. After fishing, take a walk or have a picnic under the shady oak trees draped in Spanish moss.

4) Riceboro Fishing Area

Hwy. 17 outside of the City of Riceboro

 

The abandoned bridge on Hwy. 17 on the outskirts of Riceboro makes a great fishing pier. Located on Peacock Canal, there is a small pavilion with picnic tables, so you can take a break from fishing and enjoy a snack. You’re also likely to see some beautiful birds in this spot as it’s very close to a wooded area.

5) Riceboro Dock

On Interstate Paper Road in Riceboro off Hwy. 17

Also located in Riceboro, you’ll find a boat ramp with a very peaceful view in a more secluded area. Be sure to pack a lunch and lots of cold beverages to enjoy while having a good day out on the water. Pro Tip: There is no covered pavilion at this dock so if it’s a hot day we recommend bringing an umbrella or something to help provide some shade!

6) Eve Park

234 Azalea Road, Midway

Nestled in a quiet spot at Halfmoon Marina on Colonels Island, you’ll find Eve Park. It’s a great spot to spend the day fishing while the kids play on the playground. Afterwards, y’all can enjoy lunch at the screened-in picnic tables. Eve Park makes a great spot to bring the entire family for a day on the coast!

 

Before you go fishing in Liberty County, make sure you’re properly licensed. Check the Georgia Department of National Resources website and click on the tab licenses and permits to see everything you need before heading out. Be sure to check the tides before heading out to get the best haul possible. Pro Tip: Pack lots of bug spray and snacks as many of our fishing spots don’t have a store nearby.
