SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (pic) has been removed from the Umno supreme council, confirms Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Umno deputy president said this when contacted on Friday (June 24).

He said Tajudin, the Pasir Salak MP, was appointed to the position and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had the right to remove him from the supreme council.

"Datuk Seri Tajuddin was not elected to the supreme council but appointed by the president.

"So, it is the president's prerogative whether to keep or remove him," he said.

However, Tajudin declined to comment on the matter when contacted.

“No comment for the time being,” he said, adding that he would address the matter at a later date.

The president's decision was conveyed to Tajuddin by party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan in a letter dated June 21.

In the letter, Ahmad Maslan, on behalf of the party president, thanked Tajuddin for his services as party supreme council member.

He also expressed hope that Tajuddin would continue serving as an Umno member and stay committed to the party.

Ahmad Maslan also congratulated Tajuddin on being chosen as the next Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia.

Tajuddin was terminated as the Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman on May 26 last year following an ill-received press conference on the LRT mishap on May 24.

In July last year, Ahmad Zahid had also removed Tajuddin as Umno election director and replaced him with Mohamad.

Ahmad Zahid had said Mohamad's post as Barisan Nasional deputy chairman would make the decision-making process for election preparations much easier as it involved component parties.
