A recent iPrice Group survey has revealed that Shopee holds 71% of Malaysia’s overall e-commerce web traffic, way higher than its nemesis, Lazada’s 18%. Boasting as a “social-first, mobile-centric” concept platform, Shopee did not hesitate to enter the live selling game.

Since its introduction, this feature has seen a tremendous gain in popularity among brands, sellers, and buyers. Not only are users spending more time on the app, but this feature has also contributed to an increase in sales among sellers, some up to 75%. 


The global pandemic is also another catalyst to its growth. More and more people are getting used to shopping on e-commerce platforms following the stay-home order. Sidec is committed to creating an innovative digital ecosystem that will inspire new talents to pursue their dreams fearlessly, to build significant regional technology companies with lightning-fast speed, that will propel Selangor to become the digital hub of Southeast Asia. The company was established in 2015 to develop Selangor as the regional trading hub for e-commerce and to uplift the startup ecosystem within the state. Five years since its inception, it generated a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of RM334.37 million through its various high-impact programmes. Sidec has successfully onboarded 650 e-commerce merchants and trained more than 9,000 SMEs and individuals who wish to make sales online through its E-Commerce Class, Master Class, Online 100 and Brands 100 programmes.Sidec has also nurtured 90 startups from the three cohorts of the Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) and organised 3 Pitch@Selangor sessions, as well as making pitching and industrial visits to the Silicon Valley.
