KUALA LUMPUR: Sensors will be placed around the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca) landslide area to provide early warning of any further disaster.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said earth movement sensors would be placed at 10 key points.

"If there is any movement detected, it will send a signal to the Public Works Departments (PWD) and those in surrounding areas will be instructed to evacuate," he said at a press conference at the Sentul police headquarters here on Wednesday (April 26).

On works to stabilise the area, ACP Beh said sheet piles would be placed in the ground starting April 28 and it would take around two weeks to complete.

"The first phase will be near the IIM (Malaysia Institute of Integrity) gate and that will take about two days.

"We will create an access road to remove all the vehicles from inside Maca," he said, adding there are about 50 inside the compound.

There is only one road leading into Macam which remains closed.

Following a meeting with other agencies including the PWD, ACP Beh said the cause of the landslide has been attributed to a leaking underground pipe and water retention near the cliff.

He added that the building was around 40 years old and soil erosion had occurred before, which had been rectified then.
