 Volume 3 | Issue 3      Spring 2022

Letter from the Editor

Tom Darrow
Kenosha-Racine Worship Group

At this time of year, we hear familiar phrases that involve lions and lambs or showers and flowers. All of this is an attempt to make sense of the spring season struggling to take hold in our part of the country. While we cannot do anything to change its progress or ease its struggle, there are things we can do in this spring of 2022. In this issue of the Journal, there are words that encourage us to take action against climate change, words that inspire us to care for the creatures of the earth, words that compel us to plant seeds of peace. We can be uplifted by stories of love, hope, and healing. Best of all, these are not just words, but real accounts of Friends who have and still are making a difference because of their efforts to live our Quaker testimonies. This issue provides a tool to move beyond the ambiguity of uncertain animals in March or the need for water to bring forth foliage. These real people are bringing about the change that we so desperately need.

In an ongoing effort to fully live our Quaker values of simplicity and care for the earth, this is our first fully electronic issue of the NYM Journal. There will be no paper copies of this issue. This is with the hope that Friends will share the Journal with Friends who do not have internet access. In this issue, you will be able to listen to original music submitted by Friends from Milwaukee. On page 8, the article Soaring High has the connection embedded in it. In addition, Nurture for Whimsy on page 12 is a poem that was inspired by a video for which the link is attached. Enjoy the experience.

Some of the articles in this issue:
  • Spirit-Led Climate Action Among Quakers: What’s Happening?
  • The Seeds of Peace
  • A Quaker Tree
  • Being Gifted Possibilities.
  • This Little Light of Mine???
  • Soaring High
  • NYM Statement of Interest to be Included in an Amicus Curiae Brief to New York Yearly Meeting’s Petition to the Supreme Court
Enjoy.
