Natural Born Sinners

Welcome to Satan's Playground.

I've toyed with every sin under the sun.

Grown men get wrapped around my finger and discarded.

I've killed to protect Satan's Paradise.

But when the higher ups tell me to save someone?

Yea, that's when my life starts going sideways.

There's no one here I can trust, but I don't have a choice.

So, new rule. I won't trust anyone I can't kill.

Someone like my sexy Under-Lieutenant, with the rugged scar, and the smoldering gaze.

The one whose kiss gets under my skin.

The man who tastes like something more than just sin.

Baby, I hope you're ready for this.

Because you can't walk through the flames of hell without getting burned.

Disclaimer: These aren't heroes, and their satanic romance isn't neat and tidy. Shockingly, the Satanic cult that controls a secluded Island has little concern for morality, and the laws only stand as long as you're strong enough to enforce them. This is a gritty gothic romance novel that may contain scenes that are disturbing to some readers. Content notes are available inside.

Edgy and twisted, Natural Born Sinners is a gripping gothic occult fiction novel, with splashes of cosmic horror and dark romance. Satanos is a place of immoral release to escape the confines of the “real world”, but tourists always seem to receive more than they bargained for when they arrive upon its sinister shores. A mystifying tale of betrayal and one's hunt for truth, all laid upon a backdrop of vile worship, this book was a page-turner, and my first read, but certainly not my last, by author J.M. Keep.

The pages within depict a world where wolves dominate lambs in a narrative doused in an alluring blend of mystery, suspense and blood-drenched action. Keep heaves their audience along a path rife with twists and turns that are so unexpected, each leading to another delicious layer of intrigue. Moreover, the injection of supernatural and sci-fi aspects into many of the ongoings keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the very end, waiting to see what will transpire next.

At the heart of this story lies Valeska, a wonderfully complex character that was raised and conditioned to be the embodiment of apathy, but feelings of love, pity and the need for acceptance always seep through the cracks. She boldly faces each of the devastating decisions she must make once events are put into motion, forever changing her in the process. By her side is Videl, the stoic second in command who has always admired her from afar. Sure, the island is the place to give into your darkest carnal urges, but mutual respect has kept them at an arm’s length. Their dynamics are superb, and as the story continues, shells are shattered and we see them reveal their feelings towards one another in unconventional, but pleasing ways.

Behind the scenes is a pretty large cast of undesirables who are masters of manipulation, bathing in their violent tendencies with acts of barely-masked desperation. Revealed to readers as the C’s and V’s, we inevitably fall down the rabbit hole trying to make heads or tails of their true intentions. For fear of spoilers, I’ll leave it at that, but I do admit I wish the backstory of these individuals was fleshed out a bit more. We learn the why, but I was craving to learn the how. Not everything is as it seems...

As mentioned, this story takes place on Satanos, an island where humans can live the lives as they’ve always been meant to live, on a knife’s edge of danger, free from the chains of society and basking in desires dispensed. It’s ominous and infernal with secrets hidden throughout its many crevices. Unfortunately, we barely scrape the surface of what it has to offer; a deeper delve almost abandoned in favor of the narrative’s winding plot. I would LOVE to learn more about this dark, unholy place and its sleeping godlike volcano.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time between the covers of Natural Born Sinners, its pages peppered with some satisfying spice and the progression of a fearless FMC that stabs first and asks questions later. There were a few unanswered questions I hope to have resolved in the future (fingers crossed!), but the story ties up nicely. If you’re into dark fiction, especially stories heavy with layered mystery, luscious violence, and steaminess, then this may be one for you.

The plot is something I have never read before, it’s dark & sinister, and very intimidating. There are so many secrets, so many revelations but still left a lot of unanswered questions which we might get answered in the next book I guess. Well for this one whatever level I got answers were satisfying and thrilling at the same time. We have a very strong, self-reliant FMC Valeska and I love her name. It’s all twisted but packed with action to the brim. It is well written, and kept me interested in every nook and corner. A little spice is there to make it more flavourful. I liked the character Videl, he’s everything we need in the story. With V&V together, the story becomes enjoyable, entertaining, and lovable. The title of this anti-hero story perfectly fits.

I loved this book so much.
Hoping there’s more of Videl and Valeska.

Natural Born Sinners by J M Keep is a dark romance with hints of Gothicism.  The story takes place on a volcanic island owned by a Satanic cult.  Valeska was born on the Island and raised by the cult. She moved up through the ranks quickly and became an over-lieutenant. She is a loyal Satanosite until she's given orders to save an escaped prisoner instead of killing him.  Her one desire is to know all the secrets of  House Void Star.  However, as she begins to uncover some of the secrets on her own, she becomes unsure who to trust. Can she trust the man that's raised her, her under-lieutenant, or the stranger on the Island? Will the secrets save her or be her downfall?
This book has a gripping plot filled with twists, turns, and betrayals. The world-building is incredible. J M Keep has created an entire religion, history, and culture on an Island.  There are dark foreboding forests and large gothic mansions.  Hints throughout the story suggest that there is something more on this island than just the human inhabitants. Some supernatural hiding in the darkness, waiting. The characters are captivating. Valeska is raised to be a wolf, a predator that can show no weaknesses like the love or trust of the sheep. However, as secrets are revealed, she realizes she has to trust someone if she is to survive. This story is very character driven.  Readers watch as Valeska changes from a blind follower to a leader with her thoughts and beliefs. This independence propels the story forward
My only complaint is I wish we would have been given a little more info on the cult and houses. However, there was so much going on that its absence did not detract from the story; it was just my curiosity. The unique plot and interesting characters give this book 4 out of 5 stars.  This book is for adults only due to the detailed sexual scenes that include domination. I rate the spice level a 4.  There are some triggers and warnings in the book that include grooming,  murder, drugs, torture, and kidnapping. If you are into dark stories filled with mysteries and dread with the main character that is fearless, sexy,  and dominating, this is a book you need to check out.

Generally, I am not a "go in blind" kind of person, but for Natural Born Sinners, this is truly my best advice.

Any sort of review is going to give away twists or suspense that will alter your enjoyment of this book and I will try to keep my review vague to only give an overall feel.

The authors have said if you're a fan of The Wicker Man, Midsommar, The Crow, The Void and/or play Gothic/investigation tabletop games like Call of C'thulhu, KULT or Vampire the Masquerade, this is for you. All of those fit me and I loved this.

+ Dark Romance
+ Why Choose?
+ Gothic Horror

Natural Born Sinners is a dark romance with an overall dark, gritty, and gothic feel to it. The world building that JM Keep put into it was astounding and they managed to craft an entirely new religious cult and history surrounding the island the story takes place on. The dark and ominous forest that holds not only secrets but potential inhuman/supernatural entities. The are gorgeous gothic mansions on the island, and I do wish there was a bit more about those.

Valeska is the FMC, born and raised on the island and into the cult where she questions nothing. She's strong and dangerous and able to unalive anyone in numerous ways. But when her most recent task puts her in charge of saving someone instead of taking them out, she begins to question everything she knows and who she can put her trust into. There is a progression from blind follower of the cult to a fearless and ruthless leader. The males in her life are fantastic, but any talk of them could give away major spoilers.

I am definitely hoping there will be more to this book, a prequel or sequel or even others set in the same world. This was different than my normal read, but I loved it.

I went into this book blind just from the blurb and really struggled through the middle of it as it wasn't holding my interest and thought it was going to be a dnf, but then I got into the last part of the book and what wasn't making sense finally started to make sense and before long I was done, and really enjoyed the book. There are twist and turns, lies and so many damn secrets I know how Valeska felt when the truth finally came out and I'd want to cut a bitch to🤨 there is still the mystery man who threatened Abel though and what Caleb said to Caspian...hmm so does that mean there could be a 2nd book in the making?

I'm so conflicted in my feelings with this book, it's got amazing smut and the basis of a very good plot line but it took way too long to really get into the story.

Don't get me wrong, the characters were brilliant and all held there own and the spice was one point 👌 I loved how Valeska was such a badass and knew how to work everyone to get where she needed to be.

I would love a prequel so we get more of a back story to how the v's and c's became!!!

Overall good book but I just wanted more background to help understand the story more!

DAMN! This story was dark, twisted, depraved, and violent and I could not get enough of it! I was riveted to my seat right from its wild and crazy beginning and it kept me captivated right to the very end. It was a gripping story with gothic occult vibes that had me biting my nails like crazy with anticipation of what the hell was going to happen next and gasping at the shocking events transpiring right before my eyes. It was deliciously steamy in a dark and edgy way that kept me squirming on my seat. The pages are filled with depraved and sinister pleasures that I need more of.

Valeska is quite the intense female character that you can’t help but love. She’s utterly fierce, witty, and freaking sexy. Raised to be a wolf that can show no weakness, she’s definitely a force to be reckoned with. Valeska happens to stumble upon some very interesting and disturbing secrets that may end up being her downfall if all is revealed. I can’t wait to see how her story progresses.

Really well written story with such a diverse selection of characters, ranging from the unhinged, crazy and violent to the immoral, depraved and despicable, each bringing their own uniqueness to the story. The storyline is creative and imaginative, and filled with action, suspense, violence, corruption, and some very spicy moments.

This story will transport you to a satanic world filled with unimaginable delights and a whatever goes mentality, which I loved and need more of!

🖤✨ Natural Born Sinners Review ✨🖤

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Please check TW. This is a very dark romance.

Let’s me just start off by saying - what did I just read?! 🤯

1. Pretty much no rules in this town, just guidelines
2. Doppelgängers
3. Videl 🥵 and his need to call her Ma’am

This was an action packed story from start to finish - with twists and turns, spicy moments, and secret upon secret.
It starts off with a 6 year old Valeska and she still has hope and a youth about her - but then we take a big time jump and she’s no longer innocent - she is a bada** who could probably unalive someone in a hundred different ways and she is very sure of herself.
Her confidence was one of my favorite things!

I did feel like this story left us on a little cliff? Some questions were left open for me and I am hoping maybe we will get more of Valeska in the future!

✨Her loyalty is to House Void Star and her Magister but will it stay that way?

Natural Born Sinners is not usually dark romance. Valeska is evil woman who was raise in Island of sin. She from House Void Star. She is one of the top military personnel on the island. But when she becomes suspicious of things and starts looking for answers, she turns to Videl who is a lieutenant. He has been in love with her for years. So, he will keep her secrets and also will protect her. I did have some problems throughout the book. But it was a great book that leaves us with many unanswered questions.

Dark romance meets horror. It's making me feel things I didn't think possible. Valeska is one of the strongest FMCs I've read. After reading this you might not be able to sleep. So many things are going on at once. I'm loving all of the secrets.

Thank you so much for the ARC!

Valeska is a BAMF leading her pack, the handsome Videl by her side. I really enjoyed the world-building and all the connections that were made by the end.

Videl is FINE, but also loyal, respectful, and smart. I love that he is okay being a beta to Valeska. 👏🏻

The intense feeling of not knowing who is trustworthy kept me going! It did get a little complex, but still really a great read.

This is my first read by JM Keep and it was an experience I have never had with any other read.
Valeska is the baddest of the baddies. This woman has trained all her life to be the best of the best of the best and her quick move up ranks prove it. But when one decision turns everything she thought she knew into dust, she learns that there are more secrets on the island than she could ever dream of.
Videl is just the perfect specimen of man - he’s loyal, sharp, and willing to sacrifice himself for his leader. It doesn’t hurt that he’s head over heels in love with her.
These two together are the perfect mix of sexual tension, playful banter and scorching chemistry. I loved seeing them work (and play) together.
This story was one of the biggest trips to read. JM built a world within a world, thru in a dash of supernatural, plenty of action and pure chaos, and the perfect amount of thigh clenching steam with characters that I loved and others that thoroughly creeped me out. I really enjoyed how it all unfolded but I didn’t like how I was left with more questions than answers. It feels like I am missing the very last puzzle piece. The ending was left open in a way that has me questioning if this is truly the end.
Overall - it’s a mindtrippingly fantastic story, like nothing I have ever read before and I won’t forget it anytime soon. It’s just those nagging questions in the back of my head that hold me back from giving this all the stars.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

The man who tastes like something more than just a sin. Baby, I hope you're ready for this. Because you can't walk through the flames of hell without getting burned.

This is a dark book. The characters in this book have no morals whosoever on the island that they rule over. Laws can't be enforced unless you are strong enough to enforce them. So this is a different kind of read that you are probably use to reading. You will want to heed the warnings in the beginning of the book because it will contain triggers for some readers.
I have to say WOW!!! I'm not sure I even know how to review what I ust read and that sin't always a bad thing. I just don't want to give a thing away. This book takes place on the island of Santos and it is a place where immoral acts are just a way of life. A way to escape the "real world" we all live in. Tourists can go to the island but they sure get way more than they ever bargained for when they get there on the shores of this island I wouldn't go to in a million years. Isn't that they joy of reading though you go to places that you never would go or read a story that would scare you to death in real life. This book will keep you turning the pages and I don't want to tell the story for you, because you would have to under stand how it all works to understand the island. The wolves dominate the lambs but the lambs would be people that aren't member of the cult and the wolves are cult members. There are moments that will have you on the edge of your seat. Valeska is a girl who was raised in the world and has been trained for it too. But she is after all only human and she finds love and the need for acceptance always find a way to seep through her well trained soul. However she is a tough girl and she faces things head on and makes the touch decisions she has to make once plans have been put in motion. Videl is with her all the time and her partner in I can't say enforcing the law but it is kind of the same process but evil I guess is how I am trying to say this. I guess you'd say he is the second in command and he has always admired Valeka from afar. However the mutual respect they have for each other is what has kept them apart. However they do have some great banter and the dynamic between them is great. However things are all about to change and I am going to let you discover that part for yourself. I really enjoyed this book. I pushed my beliefs and boundaries for sure but I could not put it down.

Thank you to Peachy Keen and J.M. Keep for this eARC. I am leaving this review willingly and honestly.

"I will walk in your shadow tothe end of my days. An old frail man, seeing you remain young and powerful. Knowing you can't return that emotion. And it won't matter, I'll still keep loving you and serving you. In whatever capacity I can, until the bitter end. That is my pledge. That is my desire, Ma'am."

This book isn't your average dark romance. It's exceptionally dark in it's story telling, versus the romance itself. When they state that the people in the book aren't heroes, they mean it. It revolves around a Satanic cult that creates their own island, to allow themselves to live their belief's freely. However, the FMC starts to have second thoughts about what she's asked to do, what she's allowed to know, and basically her entire life's purpose. It's a world building, gothic novel, that appeals to very specific readers...

Unfortunately, I don't think I was one of those readers.

What I liked:
1. The spice, 10/10. Well written, from both the perspectives of the characters.
2. The interesting take on what might happen if a cult created their own island.
3. The freedom aspect they kept in line with true Satanic beliefs.

What I didn't like so much:
1. The world building... was lacking. This book is very wordy for what's actually said, in my opinion.
2. The story line itself. It's just confusing, the spice is kind of... tossed in there? I believe that this other may be better at just Gothic Novels or Horror Novels.
3. The almost 'Satanic Panic' feel that is taken on in this cults views. I know, I know, it's fiction... but still. Not for me.

I appreciate receiving this eARC, and if there's another book I will definitely read it. I might re-read this one, but it took a lot to get through it for me.

What an amazing dark and disturbed book. If you are looking for something different but dark to read this book is for you. Valeska and dark and gritty and one sinisterly evil character but deep down she is starting to have feelings of other kinds. This book will bring you to an Island of sin the Isle of Santanos were everyone worships Satan. Valeska has been raised to be hard and dark and violent as one of the top Military personnel on the island. She is from House Void star. When things start to seem not right and strange she starts to look for answers with the help of her Over Lieutenant Videl. He is loyal, stern and very serious but super protective over Valeska and will keep her secrets to protect her. He also has been in love with her for years. The chemistry they have is volcanic and they complete each other in every way. These characters are dark and twisted, you will be pulled into this cult like romance and be completely captivated trying to figure out what is going on. Expect the unexpected at every turn. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

The Amalgamation of a Paradox

Gritty gothic, viscerally dark and satanic read. Welcome to Satan's paradise and playground hidden on the Isle of Santanos, a sprawling volcanic island. Where one can drown in their deepest and darkest desires and hope to tell the tale.

Valeska - born, raised and trained in The House of Void Star, one of six houses that reigned over the Isle. Never a child, following her laid path of combat precision, mental acuity and intelligence gathering. The Over-Lieutenant assigned to the militia on the island.

Videl - Under-Lieutenant and sole loyal follower. Thoroughly loved his character

The author definitely pushed the proverbial envelope when creating this multi-layered world, that surrounded Valeska with secrets. Secrets she became ravenous to find the answers to after a night of lies. Searching, finds conclusions but, nothing lasts forever

As for the ending... Even though there was what would be considered a HEA, I feel there was a piece missing... Namely a few that each had notable scars. Hoping to read more from this new to me author.

This is perfect for anyone who loves dark- dark urban, dark paranormal, dark romances, just dark anything. The author described this as dark, twisty, and unusual- which is spot on. This is a complete work, although I am hoping that there is more coming, either a continuation of this story or another person's story in the same location. I just want more.
This is 4.5 chili peppers out of 5 chili peppers. So graphic, sexy, and raw. 18+.
The author's style is good, everything flows nicely. The world building is flawless. There are no spots where you find contradictions and everything seems plausible.
I loved this story and would recommend it to a friend.

I really liked the concept of this book and the main characters.

The main character, Valeska, is a complete badass that has everyone wrapped around her finger. She was definitely fun to watch and she was hilarious.

I also loveddddddd the silent and possessive devotion of Videl.

However, the writing and perspectives were just a little off for me. I didn’t understand who’s point of view was taking me through the story. It was kind of confusing to me and I wasn’t able to bond with the characters as much as I wanted to.

Other than that, a thrill ride story with some sexy steamy scenes.

Different but in the best way possible. This brings the story of Valeska and she's raised to be a certain way but it is lost to her as love other emotions creep where they can't go really. Breaking the shield and she is taking it in stride like everything on her path. She makes decisions changing things inevitably and I'm really excited for that! An author to watch for sure in my opinion. Never read anything yet but I really enjoyed this one.

My first from the author. Extremely different from things I’ve read before for sure. I’d like to say paranormal but I’m not sure if that the right description. The history of the V’s and C’s were something I wish there has been a little more of as to better understand their purpose. But overall an interesting story for sure. Read in one sitting.

Sooo this book made me feel a little bit mixed emotions. I loved the dark gothic themes and the characters were brilliant, it was just a slow start to the storyline and it was hard to stick it out, but afterwards it was definitely worth it. The relationship between Valeska and Videl was definitely slow built and it brought some heat, I loved their dynamic!

This book was good but not great, the story was a good idea but I am not sure that the writing got me there as I had a hard time being interested in the story but I made it to the end which actually got better because of the suspense, I just couldn’t give it a 5 star.

The plot is distinctive to me; it's dark and sinister, and it's very intimidating. There are so many secrets and revelations, but there are still a significant number of unanswered questions that I'm betting will indeed be answered in the next book.
