Liverpool have triggered the £60 million release clause for RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and will now proceed with sealing his signing.

The manager Jürgen Klopp moved for the Hungary international before the clause was due to expire at midnight on Friday, having identified the 22-year-old as the next target for his midfield rebuild.

Szoboszlai also attracted attention from Newcastle United, but was keen on moving to Anfield and is set to join Alexis Mac Allister in becoming the club’s second summer signing.

Liverpool also paid a release clause to secure Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion for £35 million.

Talks took place with Szoboszlai’s camp this week and Liverpool’s interest was formalised in the player, who scored ten goals and registered 13 assists
