Exclusive: Ex-Bradford Bulls, Wakefield Trinity and Wigan Warriors star Jarrod Sammut reveals Super League offer

There was a time when current Barrow Raiders star Jarrod Sammut was hot property.

Known for his maverick style of play and incredible hairstyles, the Maltese international wowed audiences with his range of silky skills and electric pace.

Though he his currently carving it up in the Championship with Cumbrian side Barrow, Sammut is looking for a new club for 2023.

And, Serious About Rugby League understands that the electric playmaker had an offer from the Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2022 season to be part of their charge to stay in Super League.

Despite that never materialising, Sammut has been a mainstay in the second tier for the past couple of seasons and has helped the Raiders make it to the play-offs where they will have a chance of meeting Featherstone Rovers in the semi-finals if they can dispatch the Batley Bulldogs in the first round.

It’s all been a bit of a blur since the Maltese star made it to the shores of the UK after beginning his rugby league career with NRL side Penrith Panthers.

Sammut spent two seasons at Welsh side Crusaders RL around the turn of the 2010s, before spending the same amount of time at the Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity.

Loan moves to Featherstone Rovers, Workington Town and London Broncos followed before a permanent move to Workington saw Sammut hail to Cumbria for the first time.

A transfer to London Broncos in 2017 saw the 35-year-old recapture his excellent early-career form as the halfback played a key role in getting the capital club back up to Super League.

Again, though, Sammut spent just two seasons at London before earning a move to the Wigan Warriors, where he spent another two years.

He has seemingly found a home at Barrow, but will not be an honorary Cumbrian in 2023.
