Friday marked move-in day for members of the freshman class at the Rawlings residence hall at the university.

"We like what we see and just making sure he's comfortable and getting acclimated with this," said Mario Aristilde, a father of an incoming freshman.

And right next door is the new $95 million Thurgood Marshall Hall, which officially opens this weekend.

Kim McCalla, Morgan's vice president of facilities, design, construction, said the residence hall has a unique feel to it.

"It feels like an apartment complex or a swanky hotel," McCalla said.

It is a residence hall with a view 10 floors high and with, what some may call, beyond modern learning and living space. McCalla said the facility was built with students in mind.

"We took surveys from the students to find out what they wanted in the facilities, and we've gone a little bit beyond that by putting workout and fitness centers on almost every other floor," she said.

The building even has touch-free elevators and doors. Based on what they've heard about the new Marshall residence hall, some students are already making plans for the living space.

"I saw pictures and like videos of the inside -- Oh my God, it's like a brand new apartment. It looks amazing. I'm definitely going to apply next year," said Morgan student Damani Aristilde.
